txsqlchick's diary

YAY for being proud of your accomplishment... you should be.. :D

Thanks Mal! It's starting to show now and I've noticed people at work looking twice at me; they know something's different. The people I work with comment on it and have been really supportive.

I feel pumped and motivated. Yippeeeeeee!

Thanks...between my last post and now I've been stuck with a horrific report to write, so I can't go to the gym today at lunch. Hopefully I'll be able to go after work. If I can't, I'll just do 30 day shred instead.

Yay!! 30lbs!!! That is so awesome :) So I'm back and I checked my journal then came straight to yours....well straight meaning the 5 minutes of loading screens ;/. I finally had enough waiting for them to fix the cable line outside and got dial up to get by.

So how's the paper goin?

I meant report as in for my job; I'm a database programmer. :coolgleamA: Hehehe, I haven't been to school since graduating from college in 1997.

I gained back .2 lbs this morning, but I think that's probably due to my TOM finishing up (I always bounce up a fraction at the end of it) and maybe due to all the adrenaline from going shooting yesterday! I might be retaining water in that big swollen bruise on my right shoulder where the shotgun kept beating on me. My accuracy was really good though; my instructor was very impressed with how I kept all the birdshot inside the person-shaped part of the target at 10 yards with most of it shredding the 8, 9, and x parts. I had never fired a shotgun until yesterday. I bought it last weekend for home defense because of the big spike in violent crime in my area.

Now I'm ready to kick ass!

I wonder how difficult it would have been to handle the gun if I'd gone shooting before I started losing weight and doing strength training. I'm quite a bit stronger than I used to be.

I really enjoyed being on the range. :coolgleamA:

Thats one thing that's nice about Texas, someone breaks into your home, you can protect yourself without fear of reprocussion. Out here in tree hugger land, you shoot someone in your home, you can go to jail for it as you have to prove that they we're not going to hurt you, and that lethal force was necessary. What a crock. What should I just wait till they pull out a gun and shoot me before defending myself..

30 lbs! Way to go! We're keeping about the same pace :)

The girl in the unit next door to mine got home-invaded last month so I'm not taking any chances. They kicked in her patio door while she was at home. The only thing that scared them off was her alarm. I don't have an alarm system, hence the gun. I haven't talked to her about what happened, but next time I see her I'll ask her if she has a gun. She needs one.

This is a great state; you can defend yourself with lethal force here with little worry of prosecution. It's not like you can force a suspect down on his knees and shoot him execution-style in the head; you would likely be prosecuted for that. However, if someone's in my house and I didn't invite them and I shot them aiming for the center mass....and they died....oh well. The cops would probably take the gun as evidence, but once the DA declined to press charges (which they would), it would be returned to me within a few days. Any time there's a death they have to investigate it; I understand that.

Right now my shotgun is propped up on next to the sofa within arm's reach. It's loaded with 3 rounds of bird shot (safety is on). I don't think I'd need anything more in close quarters. I loaded it earlier because a ghetto bird was circling overhead about a block away.

I also want a handgun and a CHP. I may call the range I went to earlier this week and check out their prices on ex-rental Glocks; they're bringing in new inventory for rental guns and they're clearing out the old ones. I like a handgun to be broken in; they're easier to use because the slides aren't so tight and the action is quicker.

Doing VERY well this morning....my weight is down to 224.6 lbs. That's a total loss of 32lbs in less than 3 months. YAY! I did not go to the gym yesterday (I usually go on Saturdays) because my knees have been bothering me since Thursday and I want to give them a chance to recover. I'm going to do some conditioning work today instead that doesn't involve my knees.

I have 25.6lbs to go until I get to my Christmas goal of 199 lbs. I'm going to try to make it, but if I don't I will live.

I ended up going to the gym around 4pm because I went on a bowling date earlier today and ate a cheeseburger and fries. Luckily I know the caloric content of the meal. I skipped breakfast and plan to eat a very light dinner so the damage shouldn't be too bad, but I've been burping all afternoon and tasting cheeseburger.

I guess bowling burns more calories than I thought it did...that plus my trip to the gym has put me at 223.8lbs. I did have a small serving of spanakopita for dinner. I don't know what it is about that stuff, but I find eating it helps me manage my weight. I don't know why it would, since it doesn't seem like it would be good for you.

Get someone to teach you the proper stance and proper way to hold the gun and that shouldn't happen. :patriot:

True but I think they found it funnier without teaching me, lol. Plus I'm in Ohio now...don't know anyone who knows how to shoot a gun properly. Shoulda had my mom teach me before I moved. Anyway you are kicking ass on the exercise and losing weight :)

Thanks, though my knees are killing me right now. I noticed on the weekend that the soles of my athletic shoes were coming apart and that the shoes were allowing my feet to rotate in ways that could cause injury. My knees hurt so badly that it hurts to walk down stairs, to sit down and stand up, and to get in and out of the car. I think it may be related to my shoes. I needed a new pair anyway, so I went out and got a new pair this evening.

Hopefully my knees will start to feel better soon. If they get much worse I will have to change my workout regime which I don't really want to do! :willy_nilly:

I've done 1 workout in my new shoes so far. I didn't go to the gym yesterday due to work obligations, but I did 30 Day Shred in my bare feet yesterday afternoon after work.

My knees are off and on right now...sometimes achy, sometimes not.
