trying to lose weight

hi my name is valerie and i am 17 years old i weight about 160 and am about 5"4'-5"5' and i was wondering on how i can lose weight to the point where i can feel comfortable with my self and not havingot wear beggy clothes if you know what i mean my curretn diet for me i eating here and there and pretty much dinner everynight at 5:00pm and even then i am not hungary so if anyone has any advice i would very much apreciate it thank you

Well there's always the "JUST EAT LESS!" theory.

If you want some real diet help you'll probably have to post up a whole days food - doesn't have to be exact, just look over the past week and invent a list that more or less represents average consumption of things.

Other than all that- a nice fast walk every day will do wonders for your slimming, your heart, and your legs ;)

Depression can be good weight loss tool, but I'm probably not allowed to recommend it.

do you exercise? what intensity?
what are you eating? do you watch/measure your intake?
sometimes when we "snack" we underestimate how much we real ate quanitity wise..or the total amoutn of fat/calories in what we are eating...try eating on a regular schedule to curb hunger too..

try working on feeling comfortable with yourself on ow you look now otherwsie no matter how much weight you lose it might not be enough to change yoru self image.

If your goal is to lose weight, you really need to get your diet in check. Eating here and there is not going to cut it, espeicially if you want to do this the healthy way (like NOT starving yourself). Start slowly by eating 5 small meals balanced with lean protein, complex carbs and healthy fats. LV posted his grocery list which will give you some good ideas for food.

Good luck :)

Everyone is correct, DIET is the key to losing weight. Salad and avoiding junk food will help a lot.

Remember one key thing, Stick with it. Do NOT get discourage if you put on 1-3 pounds between weeks. Why? It might be water weight. Remember that 1 Liter of water weighs about 1 pound. Do not give up if you don't notice a change for a period of 2-3 weeks in your weight.

Suggestions to losing weight:
1) increase your metabolism:
-- Take a nice 20-40 minutes walk in the morning
-- Eat fruits / veggies over candy bars / sodas
-- SLEEP, yes I said sleep.
-- Drink a LOT of WATER. sometimes we are thirsty and think that we are hungry

Main thing: try to be more active (ie standing+excercise when you can instead of sitting / laying) and Cut back on Calories.

Diet is the key to not dying of starvation. If you don't have a diet you have a real problem.

I'm just feeling contrary at the moment, still, perhaps I'll expand on what Tic there says.

Anyway - forget weight girl! Unless you're an acrobat weight is not real important. It's all about SHAPE!

As Tic says - take a walk, but just waddling about solves nothing - a fast walk with long strides. You're not just trying to burn calories, you want those nice calves to show through.

"Don't Eat a Mars, Eat a carrot!" - well I've heard enough twerps scream that over the years to no longer give a toss.

There's nothing wrong with sodas - or alcohol or coffee for that matter. Our bodies are designed to withstand some hearty abuse - but for everything you drink, match it mL for mL with water (and don't be afraid to have some extra water for the heck of it.)

For that sleep part - You need to find your best time. Could be anywhere between 6 and 9 hours, and may or may not include a nap during the day.
Both over and under sleeping is bad for you. - That said - optimum sleeping is for the pros, don't worry about that sort of fussiness unless you want to get really hardcore about it.

There are some enthusiast athletes here who I'm sure are full of great information, but 10 minutes stretching, a brisk walk and two dozen push ups, sit ups, and burpees a day will get you well beyond the "average" most of the "Western world" has come to.

Just from PE - if you start taking on more fitnessy passtimes, your diet will almost improve itself - your body will tell you which meals are making it happy and which arn't.

well i hardly ever eat as it is and i walk all over town including to and from school and i am stil lat the same weight that i wasat 2 yrs ago

You have to eat; just properly and in small meals. Read the Sticky, there is one that incorporate which types of meals should be eaten when.

if you don't eat enough, your body will start to hoard fat. Kinda like a bear hoard body fat for the winter.
