Trying to lose 100 lbs.

Hey, I'm new here, very new actually. Just to get to the point, I'm 18, 6'4, and I weigh 340 lbs and I've decided it's time to do something about it. I'm cutting out pop, sweets, and all junk food out of the equation completely. When it starts getting warmer out I intend on hiking around some trails in my area, joining a gym, and maybe even taking some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. I'd like to start MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighting, but that's just a silly dream. I hope to keep posting my progress here as motivation to keep going, I've tried to diet before to no avail.

Welcome aboard and best to you.

I think you're off to the right start. Often times you'll get a lot of mileage out of simply "cleaning up" the diet. Typical junk foods are very calorically dense and if you replace them with the typical healthy foods, you'll inevitably be eating less calories.

Read around the forum, especially the stickies. You're sure to learn quite a bit.

If you have any questions feel free to let them fire.

I don't think it is silly to have goals of the things that you want to do. Martial arts is a total possibility. That is your motivation. Stick with that image and do whatever it takes to get there.....if you really want it.

The most important thing is to get your calorie intake less than your body needs. I would suggest drinking water before you eat any meals - 2 glasses.

You did not mention it, but are you male or female?

And don't call it a dang "DIET". I hate that word. What has helped me is writing a food journal. Write down what you eat and add up the calories. If your determined, it will help you hold yourself accountable for the food you eat. I've lost 16lbs. since Jan.1. I keep my calories down to where they should be and completely given up fast food. Believe me, it works.

Good luck!
