Trying to build a better body

Hi Bruce!!

Nice to hear you are seeing the results in your game. I used to watch softball games all the time, my ex played them. How fun it was to go to the ballpark, and what great exercise.

Keep up the good work. It's nice to hear you enjoy the gym!!! I'm getting there, kicking and screaming. haha

Have a good day.

Hey MJB!

Yeah, it's nice to see my game get back to where I want it to be. I've been playing for about 25 years now.. at all levels of play too. I love the game! Listening to what Steve had to say and doing some reading on my own I think I have developed a pretty good regime.

Heard you are in the Bay area.. I was stationed up there for about 10 years of my Naval career! Bringing Beth up there for our Anniversary in July. :D

How very cool!!! How many years for you and Beth? It's a lovely place. I see you were on the water too. I bet you miss it. Do you sail??? I need to find some friends with boats. I can't afford a boat yet, but working on it.

Way to bring your game back up to par! It's only going to get better from here. Are you teammates wondering what you've been up to? Any friendly competition going on?

It'll be our 5th Anniversary.. 2nd marriage for both of and definitely better the 2nd time around!! She's a great lady and I admire her very much! :D

I love the open water.. hell, what sailor doesn't? Sailing is a fun sport.. I love it! If you ever need a Navigator.. Let me know.. did that for 20 years! The whole Celestial navigation thing.. pretty cool thing to know if you like to sail!

I actually took a season off from softball. I haven't gotten back to play with my normal team yet.. just getting my swings in with my work team for now. I'll be back with the guys soon enough.. they'll probably crap like most people have so far!

5 yrs is amazing!! Whoo hoo for you two!

I have a navigation book, but havent read it yet. Celestial Navigation is key!!! I'm still sticking rather close to shore and keep a landmark in view, but how cool it would be to go so far out you can't see land, and to be under the stars at night. I've only done that on a cruise, and that was cool!!

I have a few navigation books from my Navy days if you are interested. If you like that sort of thing.. then it's some good reading! Otherwise.. it can be a bit slow..

One good story I love to tell about is a time when we left Hawaii and headed home to Alameda.. we turned off all of our Electronic Navigation equipment and relied on only Celestial Navigation.. Sun lines, Moon Lines, Azimuths, Star fixes.. it was a blast!! When we showed up at the outer channel in San Fran, we are only 1/2 mile off course. 3600 miles give or take and only 1/2 mile off track.. not bad! That was the best transit of my career! :)

If you need some lessons.. let me know. be fun to bring that back from the back of my brain! LOL

Wow!! How very cool indeed. I am a star gazer for sure. It is one of my most favorite things to do. Once I got to see Saturn with it's three rings around it, thru my friends telescope, it was a big telescope.

I got a brand new celestial navigation book 2 christmas' ago, I will pop it open soon and see what it is all about. Thank you for offering up your book. I better read mine first before I take someone elses. lol Over the years I have noticed the same constellations above me at certain times of the year. I've always wanted to study the names, so I can point them out by reference.

Thanks for sharing your story. I bet that was really cool to arrive only 1/2 mile off. Amazing!!! Isn't that how they did it back in the ancient maritime days? Way to go ancient oldschool.

Which book did you get.. remember the name? Bowditch is considered the bible of the Mariner. There are some other good ones out there but that one by far is the best!

You ever want to pick my brain, feel free to. :D

Which book did you get.. remember the name?

Hmmm, I have had it in storage along with my other books, since I moved last June from Santa Barbara. I'll have to go deep and find it. It's with my knot tying book too. I need to get that out again anyway. I remember the cover was blue with stars on it, that's about it. I'll try to get ahold of it today or tomorrow. See what I got.

Might be Duttons.. I think I have that one. It's a good one!

Well.. finally, I got off my butt and had Beth take a pic, downloaded it and now I am putting it up on here. Honestly, I don't think the pictures do any justice.. I look so much better in the mirror!! At least to myself I do.. BUT, as long as Beth likes it, that's all that counts right?

The first one is me on April 1st and the 2nd pic is me 7 weeks later..

Okay.. there ya have them! Be nice! :D

are you KIDDING? that is a HUGE difference!! Be proud of yourself. Way to go :)

Today's workout went great! I pushed myself to failure on allmost every lift.. but loved the burning feeling. Saturday's are my Total Body workout days and todays was good!

I've been thinking about changing my weekly routine around a little and after talking it over with Beth, I think I know where I am going with it.

My current workout is this:
Monday: Chest/Triceps/Hamstrings
Wednesday: Back/Biceps/Calves
Friday: Shoulders/Traps/Quads
Saturday: Total Body

The workout plan I am thinking about doing is this:
Monday: Chest/Back - Super Sets
Wednesday: Triceps/Biceps - Super Sets
Friday: Shoulders - Super Sets
Saturday: Legs

But, what I think I am going to try for the next 4-6 weeks is a Total Body workout.. work everything 4 days a week including abs and 20-25 minutes of cardio (Elliptical). 3 sets of 6-8 reps using heavy weights. I'll go into detail in another post. Beth says that if I miss a day due to a softball game or something, every body part will still be getting a workout more than once a week.

If I go to the Total Body regime.. my muscles will be worked 4 times a week.. a lot more than they are use to.. could end up becoming the 2nd coming of Steve! :rotflmao:

Thoughts????

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!! :)

Be safe!

Yeah.. we bump like that.. it's pretty cool! :)

I actually had a shirt in High School that read "Disco Sucks" on the front and had a picture of the Disco Duck on the back in a hangman's noose.. loved that shirt!

So, I decided to try a workout regime that seems to leave me burned out pretty much every time I leave the gym. I am now going to a Full-Body workout which involves three (3) exercises per body part… (Easy Mal, don’t go there! :)). I am doing 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps and lifting heavy. Most of the exercises are using dumbbells since I have not met anyone that I can have “spot” me on barbell exercises. But, honestly, I think I get a better “Burn” using dumbbells. Here is my new routine.

Monday: 3 separate exercises each

Chest – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Triceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Back – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Biceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Shoulders – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Traps/Lats – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Abs – 3 sets per exercise, 15-20 reps
Cardio – 25 minutes (Elliptical)
Quads – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Hamstrings – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Calves – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps

Wednesday: 3 separate exercises each

Back – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Biceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Shoulders – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Traps/Lats – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Chest – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Triceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Abs – 3 sets per exercise, 15-20 reps
Cardio – 25 minutes (Elliptical)
Quads – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Hamstrings – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Calves – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps

Friday: 3 separate exercises each

Shoulders – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Traps/Lats – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Chest – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Triceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Back – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Biceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Abs – 3 sets per exercise, 15-20 reps
Cardio – 25 minutes (Elliptical)
Quads – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Hamstrings – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Calves – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps

Saturday: 2 separate exercises each

Quads – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Hamstrings – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Calves – 2 Sets per exercise, 6-8 Reps
Chest – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Triceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Back – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Biceps – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Shoulders – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Traps/Lats – 3 sets per exercise, 6-8 reps
Abs – 3 sets per exercise, 15-20 reps
Cardio – 25 minutes (Elliptical)

One thing I found out is that when I get down to the shoulders portion of the regime, my arms are too tired to left heavy and I feel the shoulders and traps do not get the full impact of the workout as my arms or chest do. So, to remedy that, I will rotate the routine somewhat as you can see. I started this routine in modification mode last Friday knowing that I wanted to “Spice” things up so to speak. I did the routine again on Saturday and then yesterday I came up with the one I am posting now. I can see a huge difference now just after 3 days of doing this. My muscles are now responding to the new routine and it really feels good to leave the gym knowing that I got a really good workout!

Pictures definitely coming again soon… probably in a couple weeks.

Hope everyone is doing well and survived the Holiday weekend!

Take care!

Bruce

Geez, that's a hell of a routine there, Bruce. I'm in the last 4 days of my routine, and then I take a planned week off from exercise. After that, I start a brand new routine that Steve has cooked up for me. We'll have to get together once I'm familiar with the new exercises.
