This is my first Diary entry.

I was 140 Lb when I first came to USA.I gained over 20 pound in the last 2 years after coming here. I don't even know how I gained all that weight,although I assume being a homemaker from being a working women has made all the difference for me. I never did much physical activity ever and now I am trying to lose weight using exercises and watching what I eat.

I started exercising regularly since July 24th and since then I have regularly exercised for 5 days a week . I do cardio for 1 hour ( 2 miles on treadmill and 30 minutes on cross trainer) and do weight for 20 minutes.

Yesterday I weighed and I was 157.5 pounds. So I have lost around 2.5 pound in the last 5 weeks. I aim to lose at least 2 Lb a week.

I haven't been able to regulate my eating so far. I don't over indulge but some days after working out I am so hungry nothing seems to reduce my hunger.

I gained weight after my son was born. He is now 10 years . I used to weigh a healthy 110-120 lb before that.

Any Comments, advice and support to help me through this journey is welcome.

Welcome! You have some good and realistic goals. I always think exercising is the hard part, but it looks like you have that down! Great job. Now you should just figure out what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is, and try to eat fewer calories than you burn. Be healthy! There are lots of great diaries with great advice and tips. Have fun reading and good luck!

Out of curiosity, where did you live before USA ? Anyway, you have a very positive and realistic attitude which is great. I think you will succeed in your endeavours.

hi there!! I find that using fitday.com helps me to know how many calories I'm eating each day and how they are being used. Maybe you should give it a try, it might help you to boost some weight loss since you'll know exactly how many calories you're eating each day.

Back after a slow down

I was doing pretty well in August, but September ws not good.

September 2- Sat-My day off from excersice
September 3-Sun-My day off from excersice
September4-Monday-Extended my day off- went for a light walk in the afternoon as I started feeling guilty.Probably burned less than 50 calories
September 5- Tuesday- Had to visit a friend , so had no time to go to gym
September 6- Wednesday-May be I need to visit my friend, never went , no work out either
September 7-Thursday-Finally... did 1 hr cardio and did the usual weights, feeling so much better
September 8- Friday-30 minutes streching, 30 minutes walking and 1hr on cross trainer-feeling even more good.
Probably would be a good idea to attend some yoga tomorrow.

Good news is that I checked my weight today and found that I have lost 2Lb. and I did eat more doing the weekend, so probably it was the effect of my last weeks work out -not this weeks.

Starting weight-160Lb
Current weight-155lb.
Goal weight -120lb.
Target Month-December 2006 (16 more weeks to go)


I also learned today that I am probablly large framed.

I need to buck up

I know I need to eat less and work out more, but it just doesnt seem to work that way.

09/11- 1hr cardio and usual weights
09/12- No excersice- some committments I didnt go to the gym.
09/13- 1hr Cardio and usual weights

This week is going to be slow. I have some committments and I am not sure if I would get time to go every day, so I am aiming for alternate days this week.

New Food Plan- I need to try to stop eating after 6.00 pm.

:eek: After losing few lb I was feeling good . Today I checked my BMI and I am still a border line case for Obesity and all the risks that come with it.That brought me back to earth

I better buck up now before it is too late.

Can I consistently lose 2 lb a week? Is it too high a target for me to achieve. The fat in my body seems clinging on to me not wanting to leave me..

Yeah I need to trying harder.
 
borderline obesity, I'll take it. Two pounds Is fairly common Though I just had a stall awhile back so just don't it get the best of you.
 
I managed to workout today

This is a nice small victory, I almost didnt want to go today, yeah I have some work to do and I wanted to skipp my workout, but I didnt. Morning it has kind of become a ritual to go to gym and work out.

Did the usual 1hr of cardio and the weights.

Yesterday I managed to hold on to my promise and not eat after 6.00pm. I will try it again today.

This forum is good, makes me hold on to my goals.

The weighing today was little uninspring though. It just stays the same, and somethimes kind of looks .5 lb more. that is not good news.

Any idea how much our clothes weigh? I would like to tare it from my weight. I dont weight any heavy clothes or jewellery, but it will make me feel good to know if I can take off another few lb . (I dont have a scale at home, so I weigh in the gym )
 
I've found that when I dress 'lightly' (shorts, t-shirt, no shoes) I weigh about 1.2 pounds more with clothes.

Don't worry about the day to day scale fluctuations. Pick a day to 'record' your weight and write it down that day. You can then jump on the scale every day, but don't worry about the minor ups and downs, that's normal. Just so long as you keep doing what you're doing, you will see the numbers come down over the course of weeks.
 
Should I beleive this or not

After thursday September 7 , I didnt work out at all.

I wanted to..... but something happened in my personal life that stressed me out so much and made me depressed and anxious I just couldnt go to the gym.

Today finally I dragged myself there. Before excersicing I weighed myself thinking probably I have put on weight due to inactivity but surprisingly I have lost weight.

The scale showed 148 Lb. That is like almost 7 Lb in 6 days.

Looking back I am not sure. Did the read the scales right? although I did check 2 times. I need to check again tomrrow to be convinced. Although I was under tremendous mental tension, I was eating all my meals, may be not with happiness, but eating .

Can stress and unhappiness make you lose weight so fast?

Anyway today I did my usual 1hour or cardio and regular weights.
 
well I have been under a bunch of stress and ended up losing 8 pounds last week. I think that other than just calories and such emotions have some sort of factor in out weight loss....
 
Lost another 2 pounds

I went tot he gym for 4 days this weeks. I am supposed to go for 5 days but I missed yesterday. Losing all that weight seems to have affected my immunity little bit. I had a cold sore two days back. It is the first time I am getting one and I dont know who gave it to me. So it was off to doctor who said 80% of people in US have it, although it gave me no consolance. On the brighter side Doc was happy with my BP and weight, I used to curse her scale thinking that scale shows me as perpetually overweight, But for now it didnt . It showed 146. yeah that is another 2 Pounds. Ofcourse I wore the lighest clothes I had for the weigh in. Still I checked at my Gym again today and I do still weigh 146. So I did miss one day. Because of the cold sore I got throat pain some swollen neck glands, etc, and felt depressed and missed my workout on thursday. But Today I went back to gym.

Now a days I donot feel complete If I donot go to gym. I hope this feeling stays.

Great Job loosing another 2lb, fantastic! I know how you feel, I was thinking about skipping my walk today because I wasn't feeling great after my Dr. appointment and I just felt too guilty. Had to go.. glad I did though. :)

Anyway.. you're doing great, keep it up!
