Heya True. I don't really know you - though I've seen you around - but I figured I'd pop in cause I know I've seen you in my logs (1st outside poster, so here I get to return the favor) and your's was on the 1st page.

I am lazy and not going to google it, but I understand a kg is 2.something pounds (2.2 maybe). So you've lost more weight already than I want to and lifted in some comps, and that is awesome.

I'm curious about how you measure your BF and what your goal on it is. Also, what is your current bench?

How pronounced is the autism and how old are the kids? That is, if you don't mind talking about it. Since you put it out there I will assume not and I am a curious sort. Also, what sort of measures do you have to take with them, in terms of things outside the range of what parents without autistic children have to do?

P.S. congrats on hitting maintenance

yep it is about 2.2 lb to a kg

my current bench is 92.5 kg (204 lb)

I usually have my BF% measued with calliper every 1-2 months, I find that the bioelectrical impedance method is to inacurate and varies to much with what i may or may not have eaten or had to drink. not that calipers are very accurate but more afordable than more accurate methods.

my youngest (10) is considered to be moderate and is only able to attend school for 2 hours each day in a special class and he also has regular speach therapy sessions. his co-ordination and balance are good and he is able to participate in a normal soccer team (it took a fair bit of educating other parents about his odd behaviors and occasional Autistic meltdown) but he struggles badly with social interaction where there are no strict rules to follow and he also has communication problems and learning difficulties.

My middle son (12) is considered mild and is able to attend school in a normal class with a bit of extra help and so long as he has a book and the ability to move away from large groups when he is getting fustrated he is usually ok. Again understanding social interaction is almost imposible for him. He also see's a psycologist to help him with strategies for being able to cope with social interactions that he doesn't understand.

I have to be on call at all times to get them from school if they have a bad day so having a job with normal hours is imposible so my training is usually done in the 2 hours that my youngest is at school and I work for myself doing Sports Training/Sports Med at weekend events.

Yesterday I made it into the gym for a light bench session, after time off post competition and the last 2 week with the flu I need to get back into training slowly. Eating has also been a bit all over place so it is time to pull my eating back into line to match with my training levels. Will hit the gym today for a back session.

Good googley-moogley woman, remind me to never make you mad.

Tell me about it. I use a handheld unit from RadioShack's health and fitness line of products and some days I think nothing might actually be better.

it took a fair bit of educating other parents about his odd behaviors and occasional Autistic meltdown

Autists (is that right?) are especially sensitive to things like temperature, texture, color, sound, etc correct? What sort of triggers does he have?

My middle son (12) i: so long as he has a book and the ability to move away from large groups when he is getting fustrated he is usually ok.

OMG, really, there's something autistic about that? Tell your son he is in good company and don't tell anyone I might be autistic.

Sorry. I do not mean to make light of his situation but people can suck and I have spent some days avoiding them to spend time with a book so I kinda empathize with him there.

Sounds like you might be dealing with it pretty okay on most days, although I imagine a bad day can really suck for you. Congrats on being able to find any time at all to work, even just weekends. I was surprised by that.

Anyways, gotta put dinner away. Hope you're having a good evening.

My youngest can be triggered by temperature combined with light but is also triggered by some sounds and at times touch he also can't understand humour which can make thing difficult at times. My middle son is triggered into meltdown by certain sounds but has learned to cope better as he is getting older.

I agree a lot of common ASD behaviors can be seen in perfectly normal kids and also adult to a lesser degree. I think that had the behaviors for autism been diagnosed more often when i was younger I may very well have been diagnosed. I see a lot of my youngests behaviors in myself and I still have some of those issues including not making eye contact if i can help it (I had not noticed but it was noticed by the mother of another ASD child). As you get older i think you can learn to cope and I have noticed this is the case with my kids but they still have a long way to go in some areas.

Youch, the little guy got it hardest huh? By temp+ light you mean both at once?

I think there are a lot of misdiagnoses out there too, though. Not your children, as it is sounds obvious they are autistic, but I have met kids diagnosed as autistic when it was obvious to anyone they didn't even have Aspberger's much less full-blown autism.

Is it ASD to just be slightly antisocial or introverted?

yeah the temp and light together, where most kids might complain about bright sun when it is hot he will meltdown screaming "get it off me, get it off me"

Is it ASD to just be slightly antisocial or introverted?

lol i don't think so, otherwise most of my friends would be diagnosed. Picture a group of fully grown adults sitting around a table playing D&D :D

but on a serious note i think the roleplaying DH an I do as a hobby has helped the kids learn about social interation without it being threatening.

today has been a mostly good day, my youngest made it through half a soccer game in the heat before we spotted the early signs of trouble and got him of the field and out of the sun. It was also a quiet day at the sports med station with no serious injuries. It was 32C (89.6 F) today witch is far to warm considering that it is still oficially winter.

I will try to fit in a walk later when it cools down later tonight.

Hi Tru :) I like your new journal so far. It feels like it has a little more of you in it. I think its nice to fresh every now and then.

Also reading about your days.. and workouts and such and how you make the time to do them even though you have far less free time then myself gives me that extra bit of motivation I need to get me through some days :p

I can't believe it is still winter with the temps we have been having, it was almost 35 degrees today (95 F) and I was realy sweating my arse of in todays workout.

I was glad the gym owner was there today for a short while to spot for me, I don't trust the new trainer that was on duty to spot for me due to lack of strength (she strugled to lift just one of my DBs I was using for DB Bench), she would have had no hope spotting my normal bench. its sort of to be expected from a group fitness specialist but they realy need somebody stronger on the gym floor. I have never dropped a weight completely but do fail and need spotter assistance sometimes, but it is a safety issue, I don't feel comfortable being spotted by a cardio bunny.

The DBs i was using each weigh as much as my eldest son :D

Another hot one today but not as bad as yesterday. today is a rest day from the gym so have had a bit of time to catch up on some housework so apart from the red belly blacksnake under the washing machine it has been a quiet day.

it is a pupil free day for the local schools on friday so the at this stage it is the plan to take the kids to the BMX track and then posibly to the creek or even the beach for a swim.

Friday went as planned with all the kids getting dumped in the surf big time. the water temp was great. even though the high temps bother me a bit is is still nice to be able to go swimming in winter.

Saturday i went to a friends birthday party but kept the alcohol to a minimum (1 bourbon and 1 beer) the kids were happy to play on the playstation with her son while DH and I got to relax.

there was a squat rack on special when we went shopping yesterday afternoon but unfortunately it wasn't going to be strong enough for my use (it has a 100 kg limit) so it looks like i am going to be stuck buying an expensive one if i am going to build a half decent home gym, olly weights and bars are costly.

today looks like it will be hot again and spring oficially starts next week. I will put myself through a bit of a bodyweight curcuit and hit the heavy bag for a while before it gets hot shortly.

well it has been another hot one so this afternoon the family decided at the last minute to go for a drive into freshwater lake for a swim. we only got bogged in the deep sand once when we lost momentum on a corner when avoiding some hoons in a jeep. after 20 km of deep sand and rough 4wd only track through the rainforest we got to the lake and it was fucking dry. it was an ok drive but it would have been good to have had a swim but it was to late in the day to continue on to the beach.

looking forward to a good workout tomorrow. Food has been ok over the weekend.

it has be a quiet day today, wit a few spots of rain. I got myself a new heart rate monitor today as they were on special and my old one died a few months back due to static (it is amazing how much static i generate). I am going to hit the heavy bag for a short workout now and report back later.

Training has been moving along at a steady pace and my weight went up a little but has dropped back down so nothing more than normal fluctuations. I havn't written anything in here for 8 days and it has been even longer since i have had any visitors.

I am looking forward to an Athlete recovery workshop i will be attending next month as professional development for my Sports trainer qualifications, we will be looking at scientific studies and the effects of compression suits.
