Trops Diary

I'm hoping the yogurt helps set the stomach back into the right. Active cultures and all that. Good bugs for the gut. Let's hope it works. :toetap05:

I have two yogurts a day... seems to help for sure! Course it's not the "Greek" stuff. I've never had it, but I'm kinda particular on texture of things.... how is it?

I love the Greek yogurt. It has a velvety texture. Much better then the somewhat slimy texture of regular yogurt. Also it has almost twice as much protein. I get the fat free plain and add reduced sugar fruit preserves, or honey. It's real good. You should give it a try.

Where does one purchase Greek yogurt?

If you can't find Greek yogurt, all you really have to do is drain your yogurt. In Greece, they put the yogurt in a cotton bag and hang it over something to drain. You could use a pillow case (some of them do).

I buy 100 thread count cotton (cut into a square foot), put that in a wire strainer, pour the yogurt into the cotton, and then put it back in the fridge for a day.

The remaining yogurt in the cotton is really thick, and that's what you would use for making tsatsiki.

It has a much higher fat count, so go easy on it ;)

They have it in all the grocery stores here. Trader Joe's has the best price. Since I'm mixing it with my own thing I always get the fat free plain.

Things are looking good today. I am going for a run this evening. It's a bit chilly, so I'll have to plan for that, but I don't want any excuses. :gnorsi:

Well, I went for the run, and I made it a good one. 10k in 57 min 5 sec. Not the best time, but not bad. I was feeling it at the end, but I thought I could go for one more mile. I decided against it because pushing it at the end has been a problem for me in the past. One more mile, then I'm hurting for a week. Big backslide. This way I'm done and I didn't push it too much. Now I'm going to have to do that twice and a bit before I have the half marathon done. :svengo: All in good time.

Dinner tonight is pumpkin risotto with mushrooms and onions. It's real good, but I don't have much of an appetite right now. I'll eat it anyway because this way I won't be starved later.

I busted out my new Ipod nano for the run. I had to buy one of those arm sleeve things to hold it. It turns out that even though it says it's for all nanos, it's not for the new one. Now I have to bring back this sweaty thing and return it for credit. And I don't take no for an answer. :smash:

The nano was good though. Much lighter then my mini which is about 5 years old. I think I'll get the nike + to go with it. That should be cool.

I was on a Greek Yogurt kick a few weeks back. I was getting at Whole Foods but I did find some at Harmons... It's pretty good. I like the flavored kind because, imo, the plain stuff is a little bit hardcore for me, hehe...

Cool about getting the nano. I have a 2nd generation nano (think small square shape) and a big old honkin' 30gb video from a few years ago. The nano is much nicer to run with attached to you. Having the bigger one slapped to my arm for the run gets kind of annoying...

Great job on the run!

Thanks, Sam. I got the new nano, which is apparently a problem since all the stores only have the arm straps for the older one. :banghead: I'll have to find one tomorrow.

I don't eat the yogurt plain, but I prefer the stuff that I put in over the flavorings that they do. Mmmm.... honey... :D

Good job on the run Trops. Felt real good afterwards... didn't it. And hey, ya got to cook your dish tonight. I'll have to try that sometime. I can't get enough mushroom.

Thanks, Claudia. I might have understated my efforts. I tend to push it a bit too much at times. This was the right amount of pushing it.

This morning I weighed in at 199.6. Back to one-derland. No to keep it here.

I know what you mean--my new Nano was totally different from my old one, but I never had a strap--I just put it in my pocket or in the pouch of my Amphipod. Because I am a dork, when I run :p
 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

May all your resolutions come true!! :cheers2: :waving: :grouphug:
