Trops Diary

So tonight I ran. 4.2 miles in 37 min and 52 sec. HR was 181 and instead of walking for 5 min I did my stretching and it only came down to 141 in 5 min. I'm sure the stretching had something to do with that. I am so getting up to 6.2 miles this month. It is so doable.

I brought such good food for dinner, but after running I just didn't feel like cooking or anything. I put it in the fridge for tomorrow. Maybe I'll eat early tomorrow. We'll see. Breakfast was cereal and two big NF mocha lattes. I was really wired for some reason. Ran around all morning and didn't get lunch till 2 and I was starving. Had a tomato on sprouted wheat bread with horseradish mustard and it was so good I had another. Then at work I just didn't feel like eating. I did eat two chicken breasts just to get some more protein, but that's really it for the day. It doesn't sound like a lot.

Kids start school tomorrow, so I will have a bit of time to get to the gym and do some lifting. I haven't really been keeping up with that, so tomorrow should be good.

Scale this morning read 208.4 again, but the fat% was 26.6. Here we go, getting more fat as I lose weight. I know it's an indicator, but really. When I was 245 it told me that I was 30%. Now nearly 40 pounds lighter I'm just 3.4% less fat? That would mean that almost all my losses have been muscle. I'm not buying that at all. These machines lie, I tell you.

Dude! 4.2 miles in 37:52 is awesome! Nice work. I'm jealous. I've been slacking on my running which is just stupid seeing as I have to run the 8 miles this Sunday. The farthest I've run so far is 4.7 miles in 47 minutes. I'm making a point to run every night this week... just small 2 mile runs. My right shin/calf is not right and I don't want to do a long run now and bugger it before Sunday.

Do you find you drop weight like mad when you run? I can look at my weight graph and tell which weeks I ran as I should've been and which I didn't. It just melts off.

I'm doing steady 9 min miles, so I guess I should be glad about that. I did have my best time about two or three weeks ago where I did 3.1 miles at 8.5 min mile pace. I was psyched about that, but only did it that once.

I do find that the weight just melts off when I run. This week has been real good. I ran Sun, Mon, and Wed and jumped rope on Tues. Today I was thinking about going to the gym and lifting, but maybe I'll do some jumping or sprints or something later. I would hate to over do it and then have this progress reverse, though.

This weekend I'm going away, but hopefully it won't be too bad. I'll figure I'll bring my rope with me and when everyone goes for ice cream or something I'll jump.

both of you guys are doing great. Ive been seriously hindered in my running because of my leg. Hopfully Ill get my new leg by the end of the month and get back on track with the running.

That really sucks about the leg, Matt. You were kicking both of our asses with just the one. (4 miles in 30 min, or something like that?) Hope you get the new one soon.

Congrats on your excellent run! Sometimes running just vanishes the ol appetite, but your body will respond and make you hungry again :D Trust me!

Those machines are hardly accurate. Almost no way of measuring body fat (that's affordable) is accurate. Trust me. I had my body fat measured last year at my gym and they took my height, weight, measurements, with a goddamn ULTRASOUND wand-thingy and used it on my thigh, "lovehandle", back, and back of arm or something, and said my BF was 20 % (this was when I was a lovely 138 lbs like in my before/after thread last year). Steve said it wasn't possible my bf could be that low :(

I always thought my BF was off when I got it measured by my trainer... It was always around 25% and I (and him) were pretty sure it was lower. It was just measured with one of those electronic things you grab with your arms straight out and it's supposed to give an accurate reading... That was months ago, I have no idea what my BF is now but I would like to think it's lower... hopefully.

Great job on the runs and jumping rope. I gotta run tonite for sure. I've had 5 whole days off from running now and I feel shitty about it... There is really no excuse for it....

Take Care,
Sam

Hey Trops :)

Just wanted to check in and say hi, let you know I'm not dead or anything...I have been working out and trying to eat right. I am still committed (should be committed, but that's another story)...how are you???

Hey, Ali. Glad to see that you are still fighting the good fight. :cheers2:

This weekend was not that good health wise. We went to a funeral service for my wife's grandmother. She was 91 and had Alzheimer's, so the passing wasn't the worst news, but it was still a sad weekend. We went up to Yonkers for the service, and stayed over night in a hotel with the rest of my in-laws. Food was not horrible till Sunday after the service when I was eating all the wrong foods and not really thinking about it. There was really no time to work out since I volunteered to be the guy watching all the kids whenever the grownups wanted some quiet time.

I weighed in this morning at 209.2, which is up from last week, but I'm not all that concerned about it since I know that it's a false high. I will see 205 this week, this I know. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Today I had coffee and cereal for breakfast, but for lunch I jumped rope instead of eating. I did 5000 jumps in 35 min 2 sec. That's a better pace then the last time when I jumped 4000, so I'm happy for that. After, I had to get right back to work, so I made a quick protein and skim milk drink and went back. That's really all I've eaten today. I'm going to have to get a good dinner so tomorrow is a productive day. :gnorsi:

Thanks, Val. I'm hating it, too, but I am good at it and it gets results. If I really stick with it I'll double that number, but it takes so much time. Doing it on lunch break is one way, but I really shouldn't be away for more then a half an hour during the day. That means really doing it before or after work, or sneaking it in a bit (like today). I'm thinking that tomorrow I might go running before work. I have to see what time the sun is up. I hate waking before the sun.

Yes, time management is a bitch. I'm the same way--I've been vowing to get to bed by 10pm (!!! for me!) and waking earlier to do yoga in the morning (bloody difficult in a way, but after one sun salutation I'm pleased to say the rest flows smoothly and 30 minutes flies by with me wanting more) and sometimes I throw in 40 minutes of running on the beach during my lunch break, so I can shower and grab food to continue working. Then coming home instead of going out, drinking, so I can make dinner and have leftovers for lunch the next day at work.....exhausting!

It's the rotating shift that kills me. This week it's fine since I'm working day shift Monday-Friday. That doesn't happen too often. Two weeks in the year, to be exact. Next week I'll be on midnight. Each has it's own challenge as far as getting a workout in.

That and taking care of the kids, homework, dinner, lunches, soccer, girl scouts, cub scouts, laundry, cleaning. When you finally have time to do something, the time to do it has passed. That and my other hobbies have really been taking a fall for my exercise. I haven't been together with the band in almost a month to play. I've only practiced the drum twice in the last month, and the bass once. After going out and watching that band on Friday I decided that I really have to get back into that. I also told my daughter that if she takes the flute this year, the first year they are offered an instrument, I'll play with her. This will get me back to playing the flute and she will be forced to practice. (I never was any good at the flute, but I know the basics.)

Hmm... things didn't go exactly as planned, but still on course. I stopped at the farm stand and got some good eats for dinner. I made the kids what we call noodle soup plus. They love the Ramen noodles, but it isn't so good for them, so I load it up with vegetables and leftovers and such. Tonight was tons of fresh string beans with some left over hamburger meat. They ate it up, but I took care of the leftovers. I shouldn't have, but I really didn't eat anything today besides what was already mentioned. It isn't all that much food.

I have some baby zucchini and the rest of the beans that I was thinking of eating. Maybe I'll just eat them raw and save whatever is left for lunch tomorrow. I want to get up early and run, but that would mean getting off my but and getting all the housework done early. :ack2: Well, it could happen. :waving:
