Trops Diary

I haven't been on the scale in a few days, but I can just feel like my weight has gone up. Tomorrow will not be a good weigh in, I know it.

You never know, man. Don't sweat it. I actually had a drop after my all-you-can-eat rib day... and I was disgustingly gluttonous that day. I thought for sure I'd done some serious damage that weekend and that day... turns out no.

And even if it doesn't go well, it's nothing you can't overcome. Have a great week.

Day 91

Midnight Shift

Been a rough couple of days. My son has been sick since Friday. Spiking temperatures up to 104 and feeling really tired. I was sick on Monday and took my temp and got 101. Still went to work, which is not the brightest thing to do especially since I’m on midnights and don’t get nearly enough sleep. So today I’m doing better, but my son is even more tired and doesn’t want to do anything. We take him to the doctor and, yup, it’s lyme disease. We have ticks everywhere, so I’m not too surprised. He’ll be fine, but it will be three weeks on antibiotics.

Diet wise I haven’t been bad. I’ve made pretty good choices for the most part, but I haven’t worked out at all this week. Really bad for me, but I’ll get back to it when I can. It’s just really tough with the kids off from school, sick, me sick, midnight shift, everything.

I did have to drop my car off at the mechanic and walked home with my daughter. It was a mile and a quarter. She did great and it gave me the idea that we should walk to the grocery store to get stuff for dinner each day. It’s just about ¾ of a mile, or so (I’ll have to measure it) so it won’t be bad, and the kids will get some good walking in. Also, we won’t buy more then we can carry. We’ll be going on our annual week long camping trip in about three and a half weeks, and we’ll be doing a lot of walking then. It will get them used to doing all the walking. Hopefully I’ll be doing less carrying this year.

Interesting thing I just found out. I got the kids Wendy's last night. For myself I got two small chilies. I checked the nutritional information and it isn't all that bad. Two chilies is 380 cal, 13g of fat, 4.5g sat fat, 28g protein, and 9g of fiber. Not a healthy meal, but not all that bad, either.

quiznos has a side chili and if you put that on a side salad -it makes the salad palatable and adds some substance to it...

the real downside to most chilis is the amount of sodium in them from the canned beans... other than that -it's not bad -the fiber is good, the protein is good, the fat isn't awful...

Hey Trops -

I am sorry to hear about your son, at least you got him diagnosed and he can start treatment. I hope everything is going well in your neighborhood :)

I also had about 4 bad days around the 4th, but a couple days back on track, and everything is getting back on track. I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't make the bad days a habit. Get back on track as soon as possible. Good luck.

Whoa, I didn't think chili was that low calorie. I'm going to check out what the grocery store has as I'm always looking for something to douse in hot sauce. Bummer on the sodium though, but it would still make a good alternate meal once a week or something.

Hope your kid gets better, I know that kind of thing can be stressful.

Day 92

Called in Sick

I called in so that I wouldn't have to go in for midnight and I can take care of my son without being exhausted. I slept like a rock last night. 7 hours is a real treat for me. I don't usually get that, or usually want it, but I hardly slept at all yesterday. My company lets you take sick time to take care of a family member, so I took that. It also gave my friend some overtime, which he wasn't complaining about.

Today is going really great. D is doing much better. He's back to acting like himself and not feeling so out of it. He says that he's still a little light headed from the lyme but he isn't acting so lethargic, which is nice. He's got three weeks of antibiotics, three times a day. The plan is to do it 4am, noon, and 8pm. I just worry that we'll not be a vigilant with the dosages after he's feeling better. I know that we'll keep up, but if you don't get all the buggies they'll come back with a vengeance.

The scale was nice this morning. 207.0 Back to where I was one week ago. I'm also heading into my evening shift which has been the best for me for losing. I really want to get below 200 by the 26th for my sister's wedding. I have to do some working out, though, if I want to get there. I don't know when, though. Tonight is softball and barbecue so I won't be able to do it then. Maybe tomorrow I will get up before the kids and go for a run.

Glad to hear the boy is improving and also glad to hear about the scale's kindness. Softball is exercise. As well, running with the kids sounds like a great idea. Good luck on that goal of yours... it's going to take some buckling down, eh? :D

Hee, hee. I'm not playing softball. My wife plays. I just stand on the side and keep an eye on the kids and socialize. These days I'm also doing my best to keep out of the beer and barbecue. The team specializes in the cookout. Softball is the excuse to get together and barbecue once a week. If we get rained out, we'll still get together for the cue.

Hey there :)

Sorry to hear about your son, that's awful.. Poor little guy. Glad to hear though it sounds like he's on the mend. Definitely gotta be rough tho.

I'm a fan of Chili myself. I usually get the vegetarian one by Stagg at the grocery store. I think it's 400 cals for a can and has like 30 grams of protein and tons of fiber in it from all the beans. Very tasty. Stagg also makes a chicken one too that I can only find at Costco in my neck of the woods. Very tasty as well.

Usually I make my own chili. I have no idea the nutritional data, but I'll figure it out one of these days. It's really good and easy to make. I make it super low fat and then add a dollop of full fat sour cream and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese on top. It really rounds out the flavor. The kids love it, too.

My wife makes a badass chili, 1 cup = 211 calories, 7g fat, 20g carb, 23 g protein. I throw in a bunch of cayenne, pepper flakes and hot sauce, a little cheese and a few nachos. Goddamn! Now I'm all excited because that's what's for dinner tonight.

Day 95

Evening Shift (Sunday)

Had a good couple of days now. My sister-in-law came for a visit. Last minute thing. Good time and I didn't go hog wild eating. We did get a pizza on Friday and I just abstained. She asked why, and I told her that I'm watching what I eat. Pizza isn't bad, but it's far from good. I did end up eating the rest of my son's piece. Then there was that other piece. Don't know where it came from or where it went, but I saw it on the scale the next day. Then before bed I'm throwing out the box and the last piece disappeared right into me. Damn, pizza. I'm so week. :smash:

Yesterday I came up with the idea that we should all go kayaking. Pretty good idea. Lots of exercise and fun and not making a big deal out of the fact that we are being healthy. Afterwards I took them out for ice cream and was good and got a nonfat iced coffee. See, ice cream I can deal with, but not pizza. Dinner was salmon on the grill with potatoes and corn and baked clams. Not too bad. The corn was fresh picked that morning, so it was sweet enough to eat without salt or butter. The best way to eat corn: pick it and eat it. If it's been out for more then twelve hours it's lost too mch of it's sweetness.

Today was bring SIL to airport. Do some shopping at Trader Joe's. Then play in the pool till time for work. I had it all planned out. I'd go to work, make chili. Go for a run. Everything good. I get to work and I'm starving. I eat some peanut butter and jelly, too much. Now I feel stupid for eating so much. I haven't made the chili, yet, but I will. I'm far from hungry. I also forgot my workout shorts and shirt. I can't really workout without them. It's so hot out and I sweat like a pig. I won't have any clothes to wear after. I'll have to skip the workout for one more day. :(

...I know what YOU MEAN about PIZZA...I dunno what it is about PIZZA, but in makes me WEAK in the KNEES...LOL....I love the SALT, the TOPPINGS, the BREAD...YOU name & I LOVE IT~!!!! Soooo SAD!!! :(

..I hammed down A COUPLE slices too, and ITS so funny, but I FORGOT my workout CLOTHES today too, but NO SWEAT,...I will get my workout in.....

...you're doing it.....!!!!

We have one of the best pizza places here. Wood fired brick oven. They make a grandma pie that is so good. Lots of fresh garlic and basil and home made mozzarella and chunk tomato instead of sauce, all on a thin crust. :drooling: It's a square pizza so the slices are small, but they go so fast. Luckly I'm stuck here at work with no pizza for miles.

My two biggest weakness are pizza and chicken wings. And there's a place down the road here that makes the best pizza and the biggest and hottest chicken wings in the city. Arrrrgh, it pains me to think of them I want them so bad. Haven't had them in many months. Probably won't have them for many more.
