Trops Diary

I've been told that I have a big heart, but not by any doctors. Does that count?
awwwwww.. sure it does...

I pay attention to my own heart rate (trying desperately to not drop dead ofa heart attacK ) and things i've noticed that if I'm not paying attention to my breathing - or doing any sort of holding my breath - then my heart rate spikes.. when I run (for the 32 seconds i can run) it gets higher than if i"m walking fast.. and i'm pretty sure it's the breathing that does it

Awwww - but you're not really fat anymore... so she gonna trade you in for a short ugly fatter version? :D

She'll keep ya I bet :) probably has you trained just the way she l ikes you :D

Whatever the reason, she's not getting rid of me. I can't explain it. She's taller then me and loves to wear the big heals. Thin, gorgeous, crazy smart, amazing business woman, generous, everything perfect. What's she doing with me? I'm a good cook. :biggrinjester:

Oh, I bet you say that to all the guys you haven't seen yet. :D

The way you talk about your wife is beyond sweet....*sigh* it could make a girl start to believe in happy endings lol

Just stopping by to say "hello"!

Looks like you are chuggin' right along. The midnight shifts seem to be your least favorite, but I think you make better choices than I would!

Keep up the great work!

Day 65

Midnight shift

Still trying to kick the midnight shif stagnation. I tried something a little different today. I'll see if there is a difference tomorrow. Not that I even weighed myself today, but I'll see tomorrow. What I did was right after work I had a big breakfast of yogurt and PB&J. Then I went to sleep. Then I got up and had some coffee, something I don't usually do on midnights.

I also went mountain biking. My PB for the whole trail with all the extra loops was 60 min. Today I busted that open with 53 min 45sec. I was really moving and I hit the hills hard. By the end I was dragging so I know that with a little more I can break that. My friend met me after that and we did the main loop, but added 4 out of 7 of the advanced loops. Real good work for him and it gave me a nice work out, too.

Tonight the band is coming over to jam, and I made up some potato salad and chicken drumsticks to barbecue and a cucumber salad. Right now I'm starved, so I don't know how I'll fare with all the food, but I'll try.
Portion Control.

Dude, you play in a band? What do you play? Played bass in a shitload of bands back in the day. The free time to do that has since passed me by. I miss it greatly.

The band that I'm part of is an acoustic Irish music band. I play an Irish drum called a bodhran.

I got an electric bass for my birthday, and I've been teaching myself how to play, but I haven't been practising as much as I should and I think it's time for me to start lessons. Probably I'll keep at it this way till after the summer and then find a teacher.

Self control was not in order tonight. I didn't pig out, but I just ate too much. More like I ate more then I wanted to. A had two chicken drumsticks, potato salad, cucumber salad, a chocolate that my wife had picked up in Peru, so no idea how bad it really is, even had a couple of potato chips. no beer at least, but that's because I had to leave for work. Never mix work and drink.

Well, I'll just have to really hit the trail hard in the morning after work. I did talk to my friend who is a bit more serious about biking then me, and he said that the course record is 44 min. I'd have to take some serious time off to break the record, but I'm still very happy with my time today.

OMG! I grew up listening to folk and Irish music- my parents and other family/friends formed a band called Relatively Irish and played at local pubs. My Dad played guitar and banjo (and many other instruments) and my Mom sang. He also picked up the bagpipes, tho he never played them in the band. Dad taught me to play guitar, and in his memory I hope to take bagpipe lessons this fall.

Not have the beer was smart- also saved you some unwanted calories!

We went to Scotland last year and my wife wouldn't let me look at bagpipes. I love the sound, but they can be so annoying. If played right, though, they can be really great. A friend of mine was saying that they give a song the same sound as an electric guitar. It really can, too.

We haven't played out in pubs, but we do play some private parties for friends and such. Never for pay. Wouldn't do that. This way you can at least say that they got their money's worth. :)

Day 69

Day Off

Pretty good day today. Last couple days weren't bad but weren't too good, either. Midnight shift really sucks the momentum out of me. I did get some good workouts in, and on the whole I ate pretty good, but I gained about two pounds in the week. Now I'm off for two days and trying to make up for it. We'll see.

I went running today and did 3.2 miles in 29 min. 40 sec. I'm happy with that. I want to get it down to 25 min, but that will probably take all summer. I'll still chug along and hopefully my body will clue in. Losing another 20 pounds will certainly help in getting the time down, too. Not pushing 210 pounds can only make it quicker.

Weight this morning was 213 so hopefully I'll see it drop enough so that 200 is in sight. That will be nice. I feel like the 213 is artificially high, so we'll see what happens this week. Thursday on is my evening shift and I always do the biggest losses then.

OOH Do you wear a kilt?

HOT!!! nothin' hotter than a fella in a kilt -unless it's a group of fellas in kilts :)

yummy :)

I love wearing my kilts. I have several. I ordered a new one last year and didn't measure myself for it properly. I thought that it went by pants size, and I was a 38 but could squeeze into a 36 so I ordered that. Turns out that it goes by belly size and I was no where near that. More like 48 in the belly. I dug it out last week and it fits great. It was just the slightest bit on the tight side, so with my additional losses it should still fit. :hurray:

The guys at work chuckle when I wear my kilts, but one thing is that is true about kilts, if a big guy is wearing a kilt, no body really teases him.

Also, ugly as my face is, I do have nice legs. :)

Day 71

Evening Shift

This is supposed to be my good shift for losing weight. I'll have to see about that this time around. This morning I was all psyched up to go biking. I had planned to go to a new trail that is supposed to be more intense and about twice as long as the trail that I had been doing. I was going with my friend that is a bit slower, but that should be ok. It still would be a two hour ride.

I got to the trail and it looked good. we started and everything was a bit different but not bad. Mostly flat with a few bumps that they call moguls. My friend was getting tired, so I was doing the diamond loops and he's meet me on the main trail after. Well, about half way into it my chain snapped on a diamond. I wipe out and I'm done for the day. No spare link in the repair kit. (that will be remedied tomorrow.) Well, I had a nice two and a half mile walk back to the car. Talk about a bummer

I ate a real big breakfast in anticipation of a big ride. Two bowls of cereal and a big thing of coffee. After the ride I had leftover pasta with chicken sausage red sauce. (from last night. really good and not too bad for you) I ate too much of that and felt like I was losing control of my eating. I left for work and didn't bring anything with me to eat. I've been hungry all shift. If I had brought anything with me I would have scarfed it down right away, so I'm not second guessing that decision. Also, my wife plays on a softball team that plays less then a half mile from my building on Thursday nights. There is always a nice barbecue after the game. She could have brought me something but got stuck at work and then felt guilty about going to the barbecue after, so she skipped. No food for me. :(

I feel like I'm losing a bit of motivation. I don't know why. I'll have to do something to get it back. Maybe a good run with some good results will kick start it. Who knows. I'm far from giving up, but just hitting a bit of a slow spell. :banghead:

Day 72

Evening Shift

Today was not the day I had hoped. I ate a good breakfast and all, did some chores, but instead of going out running I just didn't. Next thing I knew I was out of time. Then I came to work and had some things to do and all, but I still thought that I would be able to get in a jump rope workout or something. but no. didn't happen. Might happen in the next hour, but I'm not going to bet on it.

The good thing is the scale read 209 this morning, which is a good thing. I also got my bike fixed. Turns out the chain was ready to go and that's what had been giving me all the problems. I'd like to go tomorrow morning, but I'll have to get up real early so I can get home before the kids get up and start driving my wife nuts.

The bad thing is I ate like shit tonight. My partner called in sick, so the guy that used to be my partner stood in with me. We get along really well, and he likes to cook just like I do. He made dinner for us both. Chicken chili with yellow rice. I made corn bread, too. damn, it was probably such a huge dinner calorie wise, and I'm stuffed.

Gotta jump some rope here, soon.

Don't let that defeat ya. Not having exercised and not making the best food choices obviously were not the plan, but it is what it is. Just get right back on track TODAY!

You Can Do It!
