Trops Diary

According to Dad, Bligh had a lot of his problems due to being to relaxed on some rules and inconsistent with his discipline. Granting the crew shore leave, hah! That's why they wanted to stay.

Dad's mellowed a lot in his old age. He still is a working captain, too.

ah so he was misunderstood.. i can see that...

and that Mr Christian was just a rabble rouser...what better place to be roused though -than tahiti...

Bligh wasn't really misunderstood. He just had no idea of discipline. He had no friends among his peers, even while growing up. He was just a slightly rich brat among very rich brats, and he resented his peers for their status.

He also thought that beating the sailors was the way to discipline them, but beatings for minor infractions, thought permitted at the time, is not the best. Especially when he would also at times allow sailors to get away with things. Fosters a sense of constant peril, on their part.

He was a hell of a sailor, though.

Sounds like the management philosophy of where i work -pretty much...

It's surprising how a wonderful a good manager can be, and yet so little effort has been put into developing that. There are seminars galore where they send managers that try to teach these idiots how to be good at managing, but I've never seen any results.

It really is amazing how few managers really do get it isn't it?

Trops, fantastic job on getting under 200 and staying there!

Holy crap man... I did 35 minutes of Jump Rope this morning and I was dead!! Makes that 10,000/1hr and 9? minutes look amazing!! Definately going to do more jumping for cardio!

JZ, I'm impressed as hell that you did 35 min. It took me 6 months to work up to this. Hell of a good job. Did you count your jumps per min, by chance?

Started to at the start, but realized it was going to be "off". I'm glad your impressed, but in all honesty, I would jump for 2-3 minutes then rest for 30-40 seconds. My long amount in a row was 440 exactly (and I know this because I was getting sort of nervous, :willy_nilly: I wanted to get to 500!)... followed by like 2 minutes of rest afterwards, but the 440 took me between 5 and 6 minutes. Like I said, it was a great workout, and I plan on doing it more!

Very cool, JZ. A couple of my friends at work decided to give it a try and no one got past 200 jumps. We're talking about old fat guys, so it isn't a real test of what an average guy can do, but I'm sure that you surpassed average a long time ago.

Competative hockey for around 15 years = strong legs and good balance... even with all the extra fat! I just want to try and hit 500, then 600, then 700... 10,000. I should be in great shape when I accomplish that!

I am pissed! :cuss: I'm working days now, which is not the easiest to schedule a workout, but if I'm careful and plan the work day out right I can get a good workout in at lunch. I did everything right to do that and hit it hard right from the start jumping rope. 2000 jumps in my rope breaks sending the beads everywhere. :cuss: No rope, no time, clean up so that no one decides to rat me out. :cuss:

Perhaps I can go running tonight, but I'm not sure.

No kidding! I hafta admire the dedication on you squeezing in workouts with an insane schedule. I'm very grateful that my work hours are always the same!

On the one hand, having a steady schedule would make it easy to keep on a regular workout routine, but changing it up also keeps me from falling into a bad rut, too.
