Treadmill v real jogging or walking

To get the same workout from a treadmill, set the incline to at least 1%.

real jogging or walking is better because you get more quality air. But that depends where you run. I have this great trail i can run in ... no cars or people anywhere just trees, river, and etc. If you're running by the road and get sprayed by dust and exhaust fumes, treadmill is probably better.
Plus it's more safe to jog or walk outside then on the treadmill because you might trip and fall off. My mom fell off running on the treadmill and hurt herself real badly.

the tradmil is definitely stabler, you can keep the same pace and even set the preferred inclination
outdoors jogging is much more entertainig though, thats granted

Outside running, jogging, walking is better by far. Treadmills are made to set the pace for you, whereas when you run outside, you push yourself to maintain a speed. You use more muscle in turn burning more calories. Ask someone that runs 5 miles a day on a treadmill to fun 5 outside, and you will see them struggling pretty bad. It's very very different.

I agree with BenPoss though. If you have to run inside, then set the incline level up a couple of degrees, and if are walking, then set the incline up a lot more.

Running

I prefer outside Running...Luckily I have a Church near me that has a ton of property and they have a lake on it, so they built a "walk around" with lights so it can be used 24hrs a day, it is a nice 1/4 jog, so I will go out and run 2 miles, meet all sorts of people who are exercising as well, and I try to increase my time and distance each week.

Treadmill is for the rainy days, I just think I get more of a work out outside and the motivation is better for me anyway.

Only problem when it is 97F and 100% humidity, I have to wait until early morning or late at night, Just can't hack that heat during the daytime, no need to go into heat stroke.

when you run on a treadmill the revolving belt pulls your fet back instead of your glutes.. so id run outside.

Id say jogging outside. Treadmills dont give the same motivation because well i find it can become obsessive counting calories/time on the treadmill which isnt really how it should be. Jogging outside is better than walking and is more REAL.
