transverse abdominis

Hey

I was reading a thread and it said to keep your stomach from sticking out you need to workout your transverse abdominis.

I would really like to know how to work out your transverse abdominis and whats the best exercise for them.

Thanx

Yes the plank is great for working the transverse abdominals. You want to make sure that not only your belly button is pulled in but your pelvis is posteriorly tilted "tucked under". You can do planks with your forearms on the ground, hands on a turned over bosu/balance board, feet on a physio ball.
Pilates is a great way to train your transvers abdominals.

so you do the vacum while you do the plank?

the plank is an exersice something like holding a pushup when your up:p but you can put rest on your elbows too if you want to, just keep the body straight, toes on the floor and elbows, nothing else:p
im no expert on it though.. :p

Cut and paste that link. Scroll all the way down and there are a couple pictures of the plank and variations. While doing it you want to do the "stomach vacuum" as you call it also known as "pulling your bellybutton to your spine" and "tucking your pelvis under and engaging your lower abs".

Also make sure to keep your head in line with your spine and your palms flat on the floor.

ive never understood the whole ab thing about the plank, for me.. it feels like it mostly hits the back.
