Tons of extra skin.. not me

why do people thnk scars are yuck ?

Im curious, iver never cared if i had a scar or anything. Its just a bit of weird looking skin. Im not keen on seeing disfigurement, but a scar is no problem for me.

Id absolutly rather have the scar than the skin (i have the skin now, its as bad as being fat almost, only slightly easier to hide)

I`m with Wishes on the scar thing. I lost over 80lbs in under 18 months and after waiting a year I realised my skin would never go back enough so I had to have an abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck). I may be left with a scar around my waist but its hidden and I have a perfectly flat stomach now. I`ll take the scar any day of the week instead of having kilos of excess skin hanging from my body. If you lose alot of weight over quite a short time then you have to make the choice about putting up with excess skin for the rest of your life or having it removed.
For me personally, the surgery also completed my transition to a whole new body so it was well worth the expense and recovery time. If you can afford it and more importantly need it, then I say go for it.

:iagree:
WHo cares about the scar! It will look way better then all that flabby skin hanging...i dont know thats just me. All that I can say is kudos to him for losing that much..give him a brake..he can win for losing with some people..

Hehehe ewww, reminds me of a Dr Who episode where this one character (cassandra) was just a piece of stretched skin after all her surgerys and had people on call to moisterize what was left every few minutes otherwise she dried out and died.

Haha, I remember that episode.

Wow, that guy lost a ton of weight! I am so afraid I will end up a deflated balloon at the end of this journey. But I know it's better to have loose skin than to be obese.

Ah, that's David. He's been a huge inspiration for me. He's a personal trainer now, which is awesome.

Oh - could a "warning" be posted on the first post before the pictures show up? I'm really squeamish and that just about did me in. :(

his name is David Elmore Smith. what makes his story even more amazing is that he lost all of that weight naturally, without any surgery (well...he obviously had surgery in the end to take care of all the extra skin).

here's his myspace:

This thread, honestly, somewhat scared me. I did some quick browsing, but haven't had any success. But, is there a thread, giving advice on reducing excessive skin from weight loss?

All I seem to see find: the older you are, the more likely for it to occur; the slower you lose weight, the likelier for it to occur; and it all depends on your skin elasticity (and just hope for the roll of the dice).
