Tob's Journal II

Time to work on some indoor activities maybe? Could try to build activities in whenever there are commercials or at random times during the day.

Weather is throwing you a challenge to see if you can find a way to keep working out.

I know, I have some P90X i can do but I think my wife wants to go into the city... she has an olive garden gift card she wants to use. Guess I will do that later or go for a walk in the cold ( 27*)

I shall be a goat herder as my part time job hah, Thanks, I found I actually enjoy the cold weather I have developed this technique I walk for a bit then I start my run. when I stop running and start walking again I close my eyes as a walk ( I live in the country) and pretend its summer and the cool air I am feeling is refreshing. ( I was walking a lot last year during the summer ).. and wow it actually works. By the time I stop running I am usually warmed up... except my hands so this works out well.

Thanks for dropping by my diary Tob,

I'm also approaching the ability to pass by fast food places without it bothering me although the last couple times I've passed by a pizza place I've been finding myself thinking about grabbing a slice but at least now I'm thinking about just getting a slice instead of a whole pizza.. hehe

Great job on the running progress you're making. Planning any 5k or 10k runs yet?

sure thing, Good luck my friend its hard I know! No not planning any runs, I am scared of planning one then failing.

Wow, so pissed this morning... I got up and it was dark overcast sky and flurries.... So i got the kids ready took them to my mothers, made my wife her lunch for work and made myself lunch and then some breakfast ( juice ) and I went down stairs and started running on the treadmill (I hate that thing) and about 10 minutes into it I got a call from work so i stopped and took the call, went up stairs and out my kitchen window I seen the gold rays of the morning sun... so I stepped out onto my deck and it felt like a cool spring morning with a few clouds, birds everything.... Damn I wanted to run in that. not I gotta leave for work soon :/

1 mile on the treadmill 12 minutes :/

Good day, good luck all!

Looks like that run was at a pretty quick pace for nearly half a mile. Great progress. I imagine if you slowed that pace ever so slightly you could run even longer without a break.

Yeah, you are right except its hard not to run fast at first because I live in the mountains and I start at the top of a hill and run down to the flat with some minor bumps along the way then back up the hill at the end. haha But I will take your advice into consideration. Thanks!

I hear ya on the hills thing. I've run in hilly areas as well and I could never get the hang of keeping a sustainable pace for running. Both downhill and uphill are surprisingly tough for me for some reason. I spoke to a couple runners that actually hate running down hill more than uphill due to the increased chance of getting hurt which really blew my mind until they explained to me that the increased impact on the knees and chance to injure yourself is higher on the downhill.

In the end, the single biggest help I received was by going out and getting a cheap heart rate monitor which let me focus on keeping my heart rate in a range where I could breath normally instead of worrying about the actual pace I was running. Actual running speed didn't make half as much difference as adjusting my pace to make sure my heartrate was in a good range.

I am too competitive with time also...I am always trying to beat my last time at a bike ride or a walk or a run (back when I could run more than 4 minutes) It has cost me some injuries.

Here is how bad I am.

I was walking on this indoor track at the college one night and this little old asian lady about 65 gets on the track ahead of me about 40 yards....I think to myself....I can take her...And I did but it took me about a mile and a half to catch her...that granny could go fast! I was so sore the next day...both my body and my pride

Nice, I will have to check out heart rate monitors. Yeah I would rather walk up the biggest hill then run down it to be honest.

Nice, but give her some credit, she could have been a ninja.

did two miles on the tread mill today but today I kind of put off my normal eating habits, had special K for breakfast, turkey wrap for lunch, and for dinner BBQ chicken, sauteed potatoes and snap peas... and then.... a piece of cake and some jello. haha felt good to eat some junk food. back at it tomorrow.
