To be a BIG F**ker!

Damn, I was just reading Karky's journal, and he was saying pullups were getting harder for him. Now I'm checking yours and you are saying they aren't improving either. And myself, when I was bulking, I made zero progress, in fact, they got harder as I gained weight. I was gaining muscle, but not getting better at them...damn, what is it with pullups? Haha, sorry for the rant.

My theory is that some people have exercises that they just cant improve on! I consistantly improve on pull ups but I cant get my bench up.

Thing is im not giving up. There's gotta be a way to get better at them. Its not as tho its impossible is it! Im just gonna have to try different things. Iv got a target that i want to be able to do 10 (wide pullups). I dont know if thats a bit high....but wel see. At the moment im on 1 and sometimes 2 if im lucky lol.

Weighed myself in last night: Im still 213lbs! Thats prob due to my poor workouts and diet over xmas and while my gym was closed etc.

I want to aim for roughly 225 before i even think about cutting....dont know if thats possible before the summer.

I'd move away from the exercise you're having trouble with. If you'r not progressing then there's probably a lagging area that's holding you back

When I first hired Tony as my trainer I had problems with pull ups, but after doing some of the smaller 'support' exercises he added in like the bent over cable pull down, elevated isometric press up hold and face pulls I found that the whole shoulder area was stronger and pulls ups became easier desipe the fact I hadn't done any in months

Well what i think im gonna do is, keep doing them how i am for a couple of months and see if i do get improvement. I dont think iv gave it chance as i wasnt at a proper routine around xmas and while my gym has been closed.

Had Session yesterday...very sh1t. Was really weak for some reason. i think it was either due to the hard session i had monday or that i didnt get much sleep monday night...or both!

Session included: Chest/Tri's

-Flat BB press 1x10 (135lbs) 1x6 (135lbs) 1x10 (124lbs) - see what i mean about weak! It gets worse..
-Incline DB Press 2x6 (110lbs) 1x6 (90lbs) - Was so angry by this point
-Cable Crossovers 2x8 (40lbs each arm) 1x8 (30lbs)
-Dips 2x6

-Flat tricep press 2x10 1x8 (112.5lbs)
-Cable pushdowns 3x8 (90lbs)
-Iv named this other exercise 'pushdown splits' as i dont know its name...its the push downs but with a rope and when your arms are straightened you split your arms as far apart as possible and hold it for a second.
Anyway 3x10 (40lbs)

Was so weak and it realllly frustrated me! Benching frustrates me as it is because theres too many people who i see benching more that me!

I still reckon you have a weak point from not doing many support exercises. You do a fair bit of tricep work so that probably isn't the problem but maybe it could be within the delts? You don't do much overhead pressing, that might help. Or face pulls, they're great for making that whole area stronger

Yea cheers CCR, i know i havnt been doing much overhead pressing lately, but iv got that sorted now as i will be doing that on my weekend workout. As for face pulls i think ill have to google them up because i dont know what they are lol

The lovely Mr Chillen posted this link in my journal when I started doing them as I didn't know what they were either

I agree with CCR, and that's exactly what I did. I just stopped doing pullups and switched to some other lifts. I hadn't been doing BORs, and found room for them, and made more gains in 3 weeks than I had in 10 with pullups. Granted they aren't interchangeable lifts, but the point is that it's nice to keep things fresh. I might get around to some pullups tonight so we'll see how it goes.

Cheers for the posts ppl ;)

Well it was my college day today but finished early so you know what that means...

GYM TIME!!! :D:D:D Today it will be an all leg session, might include some abs and little bit of cardio. I wont be able to walk when i finish :)

Haha was that after you f*cked her or i f*cked her? I saw her....she was walkin like John Wayne. (thats my own mum im talking about, i think im retarded)

Anywayyyy to my workout :)

Session included: Legs/abs

-Squats 1x6 (135) 2x4 (180) 1x3 (180) 1x6 (135)
-Seated Leg extensions 1x15 2x8 1x6 (sh*t i forgot to record weight!!)
-Seated Leg press 1x8 (360) 3x4 (450)
-Seated calf raises 1x10 (70) 2x8 (120) 1x8 (100) - kept getting cramp!

-Finished off with a some weighted situps (machine) 3 sets till i was tired :)

Well it prob doesnt look much but my legs were ****ed. i think its because im only just getting back into the routine with them.

I could of done much more with the squats but i was on my own today and i didnt feel safe upping the weight. Nice session tho i enjoyed it, just eating 4 scrambled eggs at moment :) tasting gorgeous!

help, maybe?

Hi, I've tried making my own post but didn't get a response, so I'm sort of invading yours, sorry.

I was reading through your posts, and you seem to have a pretty great deal of knowledge in this area, so, do you possibly have any advice for a woman trying to gain weight? I know that probably sounds odd, but I recently have been trying desperatly to put a little mass on. I began working out about two weeks ago (only three times a week, I'm embarassed to admit) and if you have any advice on a healthy weight gain plan. I want to put on some "substance" and regain some muscle rather than fat. Thanks for any advice you may have.

Again, my appologies for invading your forum.

Dont apologise, and im not so knowledgable lol, iv learnt a lot from other people on this site.

If i was you id create a thread in the mens section explaining so more knowledgable people can help.

But quickly i would ask...is it muscle mass your wanting to gain? Are you male or female? To gain mass you need to EAT lots of healthy, high cal foods. Also lift heavy, probably a full body workout 3 times a week should do you good ;)

Read around in the Stickies in mens section, they will give you some good help as they have helped me :)

Good luck anyway.

Hmmm in a dilemma...Should i go to the gym tonight or tomorrow?

I think its probably best going tomorrow as i dont think iv ate enough today (didnt prepare enough food for work) so then i can get max workout strength. Tomorrow im getting a punchbag aswell :)

Got to the gym today.

Session included: Shoulders (mainly)

-Seated milipress 1x10 (78lbs) 1x8 (100lbs) 1x6 (122lbs)
-Machine shoulder press 1x10 (45lbs) 2x10 (90lbs)
-Arm raises 1x10 (12lbs) 2x8 (15lbs)
-Shrugs 1x8 (180lbs) 2x8 (135lbs)
-While waiting for my mate to finished i pushed around 12 reps out on 135lbs bench press just to fill in :)
-Also for CCR :p....Tried face pulls (didnt record weight) but i liked them, did 3x10 so will keep doing those ;)

Thats basically it. Think i need to up the weight on certain things...those arm raises and the press's. Nice workout over all.

-Another note, i bought a standing punch bag (shape of a human) for £170 yesterday. Filled the base with sand today and so im gonna incorporate this in my workout as some cardio.

Also iv ordered some more supplements.

-First one is some cnp pro mass. One dosage is 400cals, 30g protein, 60g carbs.
-Also iv got some protein flap jack bars. Bar contains 300cals, 19g protein, 50g carbs.
-Im gonna get some glutamine aswell.

I also bought a blender yesterday :) Im gonna create a morning mixture of around 1000cals which should set me off for the day. Any ideas what to put in? I was thinking....

2 bananas, 1 porridge sachet, 4 scoops of pro mass, maybe milk and an egg?

Im pissed off...Ordered my supplements on fri, and they still havnt come and i paid my £3 for next day delivery!!!! Gonna have to have words with this delivery service. Im desperate to start creating some high cal mixtures :)
