well, tomorrow's the first day of my diet:( ...i mean, a serious diet. mostly i plan on increasing water intake, cutting out about 2/3 of the carbs i now eat, and increasing fruits and veggies. i also plan on doing 50 situps in the morning and 50 at night to start out, and then increase that every week.
i'd like to lose 25lbs by july 1st. sounds easy enough...in theory. this is not simply a new year's resolution, it is a serious plan i have that just happens to coincide with the new year! a good friend is also going to start a diet, and i hope that i can take some of the encourage i get from this site and pass it along to him!:)
here i go!!!

It is always helpful to have someone else do this with you. It sounds like you have a solid game plan.

Good luck and keep posting!

well, no ponds off yet, but i had a great idea that maybe some others can use, too...i usually complain the most about myself when i'm in the bathroom, especially as i'm undressing for a shower. so i've put my excercise ball in the bathroom with me. now, instead of bemoaning my belly, i instantly do some situps (doing them on the floor, or even on a yoga mat, really hurts my lower back, but using the ball gets rid of all back pain for me). i think i've done about 200 extra crunches this weekend just by having my ball right there next to me!!
happy new year everyone!!!

Whoa, now that's a neat idea (the ex ball idea)! I should reclaim mine from the children and get back to work! I have a bulge in my lower back from an epidural gone bad, so I know how much it hurts to be on the floor doing crunches. I dread it. I dread it, I put it off, it doesn't get done, and that's the cycle. Thanks for the reminder!

just a quick note before going to bed...was at the gym again tonight, sometimes i forget i how good it feels to get in there, even if all i do is an hour of cardio (which is what i did tonight). re-weighed myself, results were not good. i don't know if my scale just doesn't match up with theirs or what, but at any rate i'm only going to use theirs from now on, just for the sake of consistency. haven't made to many changes to my diet other than portion control and more water, we'll see if that produces any change over the next week or so before i make any more changes.
good night!

aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

ok, how is it that i've been eating less, but have still managed to gain 2lbs?! what the @*%#! if anyone has any suggestions, please help! i'm hoping it's just my body somehow making "adjustments" to more excercise and better diet?

I agree with turtle that you need to weigh the same time and day. Try only weighing once a week cuz your weight will go up and down depending on your system. I would suggest adding fiber to your diet. Drs recommend atleast 30g a day, most people don't get half. But up the fiber slowly so it doesn't hurt your tummy.

But some weeks you might not lose or lose just a little then the next you lose a bunch!!

Hang in there!

Did you exercise lots before ??? If your body is trying to adjust...then when your fat turns into muscel it will weight more...anywya just wanted to drop in and say hi...it is totally frustrating when you feel you deserve a loss and dont get it or gain, hang in there you well see what you are woring towards...and yes weihgt yourself the same time of day int he same clothes yadda yadda yadda...I weight myself every morning...good luck

hey there everyone, are you all sticking to your new year's resolutions? i think this is one of the first year's that i'm actually holding myself accountable for the goals i set...and i have to say that this site is one of the main reasons! thanks to everyone here for sharing your stories, you are very inspiring!! i joined the water challenge about a week ago...it's been very tough for me to drink 64oz of water every day. i've never been much of a water drinker, mostly because i just don't like plain water. i always have tea, or coffee, or flavored water like propel (i love that stuff!). but i've been forcing myself to finish my water daily, and i have to admit that it's actually getting easier day by day to hit my 64oz goal.
so good night, and good luck to everyone..thanks for reading my diary, i count on all you guys to keep me honest and accountable!

I was always told that as long as it wasn't caffinated (coffee, tea, etc) that it counted towards your water intake. Good work trying to get it all in!

I didn't make any resolutions this year. Everybody always seems to give up on resolutions after a month or so, and the weight loss thing is something I'm not giving up on, so why make it a resolution?

ok, so today has not been a good water day, only about 45oz so far. BUT i have not been snacking today, so i'm pretty proud of that! it's only 6:eek:o right now, so there's still time to get more water in. i'll check in later on.

well, i totally fell off my water consumption last week because we were busy moving (gross!!), but as of today i'm back on track. i've been doing really well not snacking so much, but not so well at getting in more fruits/veggies:( . i saw a website that someone here had mentioned, called sparkpeople.com, and i absolutely love it! so, my goals this week are:
1. keep up the water intake between 64-80oz daily.
2. 2-3 servings of fruits/veggies every day. i know that's not even the recommeded amount, but it's an improvement for what i normally eat, so i figured i'd start with small amounts and work my way up.

that's about it for now, thanks for checking up on me!
how are things going for you?

take care!
tonya

Hi Tonya! I loooove sparkpeople. I've been using them since I began this whole thing and I think they are part of the reason I was able to stick with it: they make it so easy to count the calories and track goals! Have a great day! :D

so, it's been a while since i've posted anything...BUT I am still on track with my goals. Still keeping track of water intake, and I hit my goal most days. My diet still needs more fresh fruits and veggies, but I'm also not snacking on carbs nearly as much as I used to...yay!!
Just wanted to stop in and post a quick update.
