And here I go again... Well not again, strictly speaking... I took a dieting break for 1 month while I visited my parents in Germany.

Who would have thought you could put on SO MUCH WEIGHT in a month! I weighed 55kg before I got here... So close to my goal! I can't have gained more than a kg a week though... Right...? Now Christmas is over, it is time to regroup and get back on track. I have 1 month to lose as much weight as I can! Online forum Diet Diaries have always helped me in the past, so hoping this one will be no different.

The Method: Calorie Counting

The Goal: My brothers birthday is coming up on the 28th of February so I must look good for that. I was always the fat kid at school and a number of my old class mates will be there so I must be looking in incredible shape!

Height: 5'3
Daily Calories Burnt: 1550
Diet Calories: 1000 - 1200

SW: 68.1kg
CW: ???
GW: 50kg

My Goal = Lose 2kgs while I'm here!
2kgs = 7,900kcal x 2 = 15,800kcal

Day 1

Breakfast:
20g Special K - 75kcal

So day one went pretty well! My bloated stomach has shrunk so much. My butt hasn't however... I put on my jeans today. I didn't have a muffin top at all before I got here. Now I have a HUGE muffin top! But they still did up (with a fight) and that's the main thing! I'm so frustrated with myself as I had worked so hard to fit into that smaller size of jeans! My jeans will act as my weight loss guide so I can avoid the scales while I'm here.

All I can say is... Wow those Apple Cinnamon Muesli cups taste amazing! A good day today. However my stomach was rumbling before bed. Although my bed time is 12:30am!
Could not remember how many cups of coffee I had today, though I think it was within my 4 a day limit. Need to eat a little more tomorrow though as I haven't quite hit my 1,000-1,200 range (unless I did have that extra coffee).

Exercise. How I hate thee. I need to get back into that. But German winters are so cold... In the warmer Australian weather I never feel put off by the temperature. But I MUST go soon! I am wasting my temporary membership here.

So we ate out a family friend's place today. Thank god I slept in and didn't have breakfast… Melted cheese and potatoes for lunch… And Champagne, beer and wine! I felt so bad refusing most of everything they were all eating. AND my mother hadn't told them I was vegetarian! So the first course was full of chicken and bacon… I sat there awkwardly not knowing whether I should say anything…

A few days ago my mother had asked me if I would just eat meat at this lunch… I've already given up veganism while I'm here visiting her, and now she's asking me to eat meat! I feel guilty eating it… I feel guilty not eating it… I'm exhausted just trying to eat food around my parents!

Good day again today! And did about 1.5hrs of solid walking in the cold, so I’m adding on an extra 50kcal today for exercise.

Although last night was tough. I posted my diary entry just before I had dinner. My parents had Nachos… My favourite food! It’s the dish they used to make me for my birthday dinners. God it’s amazing. Not like store bought Nachos… These Nachos taste amazing. The cumin and garlic infused sour cream, the smooth, tangy guacamole, the rich and spicy chilli con carne… and of course the mountains of lightly browned cheese, all surrounded by a bed of crunchy nacho chips!

My jalapeño mash potatoes and vegan burger patty, while decent, just can’t compete with my mums home made nachos :(

Parents are so evil, aren't they? My mum makes the most delicious food and regardless of whether I'm dieting or not, I can never resist!!

It´s probably hard to understand for your mother, but I don´t think it´s ok for her to try and get you to eat meat if she knows you´re a vegetarian. If you go visit people she knows and you don´t (or she´s in contact with and you aren´t) and she doesn´t tell them you´re a vegetarian she should feel embarassed, not you. Which is easy to say, I know, but I think you´re being more flexible then most vegans if you´re "just" eating vegetarian to accomodate your parents. I´m assuming they´re happy to have you home so they might as well meet you halfway. Good luck!

Hahaha I love my mothers home cooking! Just terrible timing... And I am such a boring cook normally!

Thank you :) Mmm... I don't really know how to feel about it all. Sometimes she's very supportive, but other times I think she considers it an inconvenience or something else to stress about (she worries I will end up deficient... something that could happen in any unbalanced diet though). But it was an awkward situation to be put in...
But anyway, it's only another few weeks and then I can go back to my old diet without inconveniencing anyone! I do feel family is a little different to friends or acquaintances and I'm happy to make more sacrifices to make them happy.

I agree with LaMa here. Our older son will not eat any chicken & only eggs that have come from his chickens. Our younger son, at one stage, would only eat meat that was free-range or feral & had a good life. Instead of trying to get them to eat something that, to them is morally wrong, we have taken that on-board & now always try to do the same. I really respect their views & admire them for it, even though at times it has been inconvenient. I think we would all be better off if we ate less meat. Your Mum's nachos sound delicious btw! My stomach is actually rumbling!

Well I tried to diet in Germany... Did not work... :leaving:

I would like to continue on with the diet, but having have 8 weeks off the rails, I will be extending the amount to burn by another 4kg. :(

If I stick to it I will weight myself at the end of two months. My parents are coming down from Germany for a few weeks so I'm going to continue with the vegetarianism for now. Though I would like to get back to being vegan eventually.

Did lots of walking today! But I'm still exhausted from jet lag... Had a job interview today so hopefully I didn't seem too tired. Fitting into my job interview clothes was interesting :S

Heartburn is a terrible thing... I can never tell if I'm hungry or not. This morning I thought I was suffering heartburn until my stomach started rumbling! But last night I felt starving only 10min after eating my dinner.

No wonder I used to overeat as a child. I remember being confused by hunger pangs as a kid! Carrots, tomato, pineapple... It's like everything healthy leads to heartburn :S

Well... I dunno if it makes me feel better or not... But I can still fit into my tiny person clothes... But they're SOOOO tight... I could wear them out... but they'd look best if I wore a cardigan to disguise just how to tight they are. I've lost some more water weight since starting the diet because most of my clothes are fitting a lot better. Hoping a decent amount of my weight was from water retention from so much sodium and other terrible things. I find the first 3-5 days I will continue to lose cms after starting so fingers crossed some more will come off!! :willy_nilly:

As a small person, it takes about 6kgs for me to go up a dress size. Safe to assume I've gained 5-6kgs during my two months of amazing eating with complete abandon! :lurk5:

Wow... Fruit salad and yoghurt is actually one of the nicest breakfasts I have ever had! I usually cant stand melon, but cover it in yoghurt and it's delicious! Who would have known!

Though I am starting to struggle a bit at the moment. I walk to the shops once or twice a day (too poor to buy anything), but spending time in the house is really tempting me to eat. I'm so bored! I'm looking for a full time job now I'm back in the country so have next to nothing to do but apply for jobs during the day. Though there are only so many jobs that get put up on these sites each day...

It's easier than it was before my holidays though; my brother has no job at the moment either so he cant afford to keep a pantry full of chips, biscuits and other terribly delicious unhealthy things in the house. We've got it pretty tough at the moment... Might as well be thankful for small mercies as they say! Haha!

Breakfast:
Fruit Salad - 200kcal
Yoghurt - 80kcal

Feeling really fat today... Going out with a friend tonight for drinks (though I don't plan on drinking anything!!). She hasn't seen me since my weight gain in Germany... It's pretty obvious I'm afraid. She's also that friend that's always going on about weight and nutrition so I'm always self conscious around her. And she's always the perfect weight and drop dead gorgeous. And then there's me struggling to do up my clothes...

I don't know if I should weigh myself!! :willy_nilly:

It will give me a good idea of the weight I am and how terrible I look in my clothes. I find I can't be honest with myself when it comes to my weight so I like to rely on the numbers.

Three things will happen:
1. I'll weight myself, it'll be worse than I thought and I'll be mega depressed and self conscious.
2. It'll be exactly what I was expecting (but hoping not for) and I'll be mega self conscious and depressed.
3. I'll weight myself, t'll be better than I thought and I'll feel amazing knowing my goals are even closer.

The odds of no.3 are remote... No matter what, I think I'll end up depressed and self conscious. I refuse to buy bigger clothes though! I got myself here, I can get myself back!

What do I do?!?! :(

I started a balcony garden when I got back from germany! I'm growing Basil, Oregano, Vietnamese mint (delicious!!) and spring onions! Going to start using some of it today. Think I may make a vietnamese salad tomorrow, but we shall see how lazy I'm feeling.

Well drinks was interesting.. My friend was an hour late :S So I did buy one glass of red while I waited. But by the time I had walked home at 1am my feet were SO SWOLLEN! Like I had just gotten off a plane! Why?! My jeans too tight? Weather too warm? :/

Wow I woke up feeling sick... Headache, nausea... Felt like a hang over from a single glass of red wine... Went away by about midday. Was horrible!

But wow my Vietnamese Salad was amazing! A MASSIVE filling bowl of delicious salad. I might make some Vietnamese Summer rolls (with nori instead of rice paper) tomorrow with the left over ingredients; I have 6 packets of nori! My mum buys some every time she comes down, I bought a packet, my ex housemate bought a couple of packets and my brothers friends came over to have a sushi making party and, because they had never done it before bought too much of everything. Need to find some more recipes for it I think hahaha!

I also got an invite to a dinner out at a Thai place tomorrow night. I hate eating out when I'm on diets! Makes things so tough. :( BUT Tom Yum Soup is always low calorie and absolutely delicious; I have seen calorie ranges from 100 - 260kcal (for an 850mL bowl) so I shall have to wait and see the size of the bowl tomorrow.
