Well hi :):)

Hmm some basic facts...

Start weight: 248 lbs
Current weight: 240lbs

Lost this week: 3lbs
Mood: Delighted that i resisted wine thru the weekend!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

So far Im feeling pretty confident that I can do this. The final straw came when a family friend mistook me for my sister in law who is 10 years older than me, and (i thought) about 8 sizes bigger. I was wrong, Im afraid....we are exactly the same size. Shamingly, she has had 3 children, and my only excuse is the love of unhealthy food, wine and a severe aversion to any type of exercise! In short, I have become very lazy and pretty much the stereotype of fat people that we all know and hate!!! So.... i dusted myself off and started to regain some sort of control.

I have to admit that my confidence took a knock- my family admitted that they were worried about my size and my friends promised support with a look of relief. In my little bubble world, I had failed to notice that they had noticed (if that makes sense!).

So here it is...i have many pounds to lose but hopefully this site will help me as it seems to have helped and supported so many others :D:D:D

Hey girl, congrats on the great weight loss so far! I know you'll make it happen this time, and you'll reach your goal in no time! Glad you found the forums, happy to have you here :)

Thanks so much guys! That was really nice of you and i appreciate your encouragement!

Omega, you have done so well! I find that very inspiring so congratulations to you on your success!! I hope i can be just as good at achieveing my goals!

Managed to go to the gym again tonight and im planning on two more visits before Friday....hopefully that will boost the weight loss a bit!

Thank you for your congratulations.

Well done on your decision to exercise. Exercise is very important in my experience. I normally do some ST (cannot at the moment due to having had an operation a week ago!) - but lots of cardio - which really helps boost my weight loss.

Back for a moan :(:( loll

So been going to the gym and finally felt ready to try out a class, so went with my friend tonight. Big mistake! She is very slim and was wearing lovely little 'proper' gym clothes, while i was in baggy tracksuit bottons and a t-shirt - looking a complete frump beside her (even tho we are the same age!) I know that this is vanity in the extreme, and i should be pleased that i managed to do the whole class, but i hadnt realised how much older all this weight has made me look....i didnt look anywhere near 25, i looked like a much older woman....sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Oh well, at least ive managed to lose some weight and i think i have lost more this week - hopefully drop below 17st (238lbs) ;):) I wont no for sure til friday but im hoping!! But i am now painfully aware that this is only a tiny step to where i need to be. I dont want to look like my mum at this age! I want to look young and fresh and be ale to wear some decent gym clothes!!!

Still i will swallow my pride and vanity (both pretty sinful attributes anyway!!) and keep going to the classes and exercising. I can only get thinner if i do.

Sorry to anyone reading this, im a bit depressing today! Makes a difference to get it off my chest tho :) Think thats why i really like this forum :)

Did the naughty thing.....couldnt resist weighing myself this morning and im down by 3 lbs!!!

great feeling and i think that the exercise is really having an effect. i only have 3 lbs to go until i reach my first mini target of 1 stone :D:D:D i cant believe how good i feel - its 11lbs that i dont have to worry about any more!!! my usual weigh in day is friday, so hopefully by then i will maybe have lost another wee pound! here's hoping!! I have 2 more trips to the gym before then so i will make sure that i sweat like a demon!

So stats for today,

Weight: 237lbs (17st 3lbs)
Exercise: Brisk walk (2 miles) not much but its my rest day!
Calories: Approx 900 - quite low today but i didnt have much appetite

Plan for tomorrow

Full cardio workout and brisk 2 mile walk.

And the high continues :D:D:D:D:D Roll on Friday!!!!

So here are my reward plans for when i reach

234 lbs (16 st 10lbs) - sky high stilletos that i have wanted for ages

224 lbs (16 st) - Some new summer clothes

210 lbs (15st) - Some gorgeous new underwear

trousers, and some shiny new trainers This will encourage
me to keep exercising!

anniversary

Oh dear now its all there in black and white!

Hey there Tinkerbella,

Congrats on that 3lbs lost, that's incredible! You are doing so well for yourself.

Your calories do seem pretty low, watch out for that, you might start feeling sluggish. Wishing you luck with that 1lb by Friday. :)

Dani

Thanks Dani :):)

Your encouragement is really appreciated! That's the best thing abt this forum and it does give you a little boost!

Good luck on your own journey, Im sure you will reach your target!

x

900 calories is definitely far too low.

It works against you to set the calorie level too low. You want to be eating at a higher calorie level with lots of nutritious food so that your body gets all the best fuel so that you can exercise effectively. It really is a false economy to think that it is better to have less.

Congratulations on your weight loss. 3 pounds is great.

I like your reward plan - but I hope that you realise that you want many more milestones than that to keep you going.

You certainly want them at least:
on each half stone boundary
on each 10 pound boundary
on each BMI change of type (every 5)
on each BMI change under 30 (every 1 - down through overweight into normal)

As you pass each milestone you want the next one to be visible and an attainable short term target.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Thanks Margaret :):)

900 cals is def not the norm, didnt have much appetite that day! My usual cal count is around 1200 -1400. I dont want to be reallly silly this time and get completely fed up (which would result in chocolate consumption the likes of which have never been seen!!) I have tried that before and i just got crabit and tired. I love the idea of adding more milestones...any excuse to buy stuff!

So stats for today (so far)

Exercise- Brisk 2 mile walk with my lovely pug :D
1hr cardio and 20 min strength training

Calories - 1,100 ish (never sure abt cals for coffee! like to over estimate just in case!)

Mood - pretty tired! Rough day at work followed by gym, tidying whole house as friends are coming over and desperately want to sleep! Still feeling positive though :D:D I def think that i am becoming addicted to documenting little details in this blog/diary! It keeps me busy and really motivates me so I think i will continue to write whatever comes to mind!

Trying hard to formulate a gym plan that allows for the next few weeks at work. I have been working on a play with the kids in my class for the last 6 months and the big finale is in May! So its all systems go to make sure everything is ready in time:eek::eek::eek:

Just thought that you should know that I dont tend to take my calories down as low as that. I dont count calories as a rule - but the last time I did I was on over 1600 calories and losing weight still.

A lot of people think that you need to have your calories really low to lose weight - and if you pitch it too low it gets easy to get despondent and give it up as too much like hard work. Also - your body gets used to low calories coming in and works accordingly so you can have problems where to drop things down to in order to restart some weightloss happening. There are all sorts of threads on nutrition and plateaus that may be of interest to you for determining the best calorie level to pitch things at.

One formula that I see all over the place is that you should go for calories set at 8 times weight in pounds and 12 times weight in pounds - heading initially nearer the 12 times level and see how that goes.

12 times 220 gives you something like 2640.
8 times 220 gives you 1760.

You really do need quite a lot of calories to get all the right levels of protein, calcium, fibre, etc. It is quite hard to get as much of these things as you really would be best off getting.

You can use the formulae to work out your BMR and try to put a calorie value to your exercise. If you add them together you get the level that is the one that you eat at maintenance with. Then subtract 500 to get a calorie level for weightloss.

Read those threads as it may mean the difference between coping long term and feeling really deprived.

Take care

Delighted!!! I'm turning into a daily scale checker! Today the scale said that i have dropped another 3 lbs!! That surely cant be right can it? I checked on 2 diff sets of scales and bothe said the same 16st 10lbs (234 lbs) - which is the first goal on my list! Very expensive stilettos will be all mine this weekend!

Im not daft enough to expect that i can keep losing like this, but at the moment i think its amazing , i just cant believe i didnt do this sooner! That is a whole stone in 3 weeks :D:D:D:D Obviously this will slow down and it will prob become a damn sight harder when i start to get leaner. But i dont care!!

Going to try and avoid the alcohol this weekend. I have offered myself as a bit of a chauffer on sat night! This has the obvious bonus of not drinking and the hidden one of saving the taxi fares! Yay! Hope it will still be a good night but i would be a pretty boring person if i couldnt have a decent night out without drinking!

Stats for today

Weight - 234 lbs (FIRST TARGET!!)
Mood - Elation!
Calories - 1370 ish
Exercise - 4 mile walk with the puglet and hubby!
Dance class

Exercise is right out the window tomorrow but i am aiming for the day when i can actually be bothered to go to the gym on a Friday! Just remembered that my class have a sponsored walk tomorrow so i will have to walk 6 miles with them in aid of Cancer Research. Good cause and good exercise!

Lots of experts say you shouldnt weigh every day - but I always weigh every day and would be miserable if I couldnt. I post my weight daily on the weigh every day club.

Walking 6 miles is great exercise. I walk 6 miles every morning. My distances have been down over the past 2 weeks - because I had emergency surgery 2 weeks ago - but I am back up to 6 miles a morning again now.

well done on getting to your first goal tink! your doing great and good luck for the walk tomorrow :)

Thanx kotki :) I'm still buzzing!

Omega, I cant believe you do 6 miles every day! My legs were killing me today!! It is really good exercise but my appetite was ENORMOUS afterwards! Had to reign myself in and avois the staffroom Friday cakes!
I hope you're feeling better after your surgery and that you are recovering well :)

Ok stats for today

Weight - 237lbs
Mood - Exhausted but happy
Calories (inc est for dinner!) - 1500

I've decided to add measurements too. I saw some great advice that said that even if the scales dont go down, you may still be slimmer as you are toning up your body. I like that thought so here goes.

Chest - 100.4 cm (39.5 in)
Waist - 101.5 cm (40 in)
Hips - 122 cm (48 in)
Bum - 129 cm (50 in)
Thigh - 68.5 cm (27 in)
Calf - 46 cm (18.25 in)
Upper Arm - 37cm (14.5 in)
Lower arm - 29 cm (11.5 in)

I am only going to check these every week (hopefully it will change on a weekly basis!)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! My new stilettos and I plan to dance til we drop!
