Hey Mystic, just quickly caught up on your diary!! Hope your race went well, sounds like you've been pretty damn busy recently!

Hey guys! Sorry I have been MIA. I have been helping my mom babysit my nieces and nephews and have been staying at her house and don't have my computer.
The race went well and I had a good time but I will post more tonight when I get home and have my computer!

Alright! Hello again everyone!
*Apparently you can only post 1 video per post (and only 10000 characters per post) so I have to split up my post into multiple posts!*
So first off, the Tough Mudder!
It was a very cold day! Thankfully I managed to miss most of the rain during my run, The people that started a couple hours after me were definitely not as lucky! It was only 6*C when I went though and did have a bit of drizzle at times.
The course was 16.4km long or so, and due to the rain we had been having the course was even muddier than anticipated! Very much like the Spartan Race I did the other week. Lots of slipping and sliding around which definitely slowed you down.
THe first obstacle you had to deal with was a large wall you had to get up and over, and this was before you even got to the start line! I'm at the very far side of the wall. It takes a few tries before I get up and over with the help of someone lending me there shoulder to stand on.

First obstacle on course was the Arctic Enema (ice cold water plunge) which actually was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be! You got a 2km run to warm up a little (though had a few mins wait standing around as only 2 people could go at a time). The worst part for me was that you slid down a slide to get in to the water that had a metal 'cage' on top that force you to go all the way under water. But you slid in feet first then had to twist yourself around to get yourself up into a standing position and I had visions of me either bashing my head on the metal cage or getting trapped under it and feeling like I would drown for a second or 2. Thankfully I was fine. Flipped around and swam to this wall in the middle you had to climb out of the water and over then go back into the water, swim to the exit and climb back up and out. It was cold for sure, but not the freezing OMG cold that hurts like I thought it might. And within 10 seconds of getting out I felt warmer than I did before getting in. (Though my hands maybe were a bit tingly which kinda lasted throughout the whole race as I think they were colder with all the mud, water, cold weather than I they felt).
Video of me doing the Arctic Enema. I'm in the bright pink at the top of the ramp closest to the camera. NOTE: My mom screams really loud so turn your volume down on most of these videos!)

Next was a barbwire crawl. The ground being very slippery helped you slide on your belly right through. There were a couple obstacles to crawl over sideways to stay under the barbed wire.

Can't remember what the next obstacle was, it was called Soggy Bottom, so I assume I got quite wet doing it. It may have been one where you went into this ditch that they made have a really soft 'floor' that made it hard to move through and wanted to suck your shoe off.

Next up was a big wall that was at an angle towards you. This one I definitely needed help with! But there was a firemen team on course (doing the race) and they gave me a helping hand to get over. My mom was there and tried to video it, but she did the 'mom' thing where she accidentally video'd before and after by accident instead haha.

Then to an obstacle called Devil's Beard. You just crawled under a big net. Nothing was difficult about this one except I had to do it with my head turned sideways so my ponytail wouldn't catch in the net (It also took my headband off)

By this point I had run over 6km already. Mostly flat ground. Then came up to Abseil, where you repelled yourself down a steep 'cliff' with ropes. There was a few mins wait at this obstacle as there were only 4 ropes. One girl next to me found it quite difficult but other than your hands getting a bit warm from rope friction I found it pretty easy and fun!
Now is about when there started to be a lot more running between obstacles, and more up and down hills as well.

The next obstacle was closed because apparently they had dug the ditches too deep and so the water in them was too deep to be safe. I hate not getting to do obstacles!

Next up was the Quagmire, but can't remember what that one was. I kinda thing this is the one I put down for Soggy Bottom earlier but not sure

Then Cliffhanger, which was just a semi steep hill to trudge up. I wouldn't have called it an 'obstacle'!

Along the way there was water/snack tents set up to keep you hydrated and energized. They also had porta potties. There were a couple times I thought that "I COULD pee" but with how wet and muddy my pants were I wasn't sure if I would get them back up if I pulled them down!!

Hold Your wood was carrying a log a decent ways and back again. It wasn't too heavy, but it was quite awkward. I mostly carried it over one shoulder (switching shoulders as I went) but that did hurt the collar bone and shoulder. It was probably the longest weight carrying obstacle of any of the races I have done.

Onto Cry Baby which is 12km into the race. This one is where you go through an irritating gas that you can't see through. You start off having to completely submerge under water to get into the chamber with the gas. The water helps contain the gas within the chamber. I hate that submerging into water to get under something as I'm scared I will come up underneath it, like in the enema, but I was fine. Once you are in you get back onto solid ground, but there are things you climbed over, and drop off you had to deal with inside the chamber. Since I couldn't see I accidentally did a lot of groping of the people in front of me as I tried to feel my way around! The gas wasn't terribly irritating, certainly not real tear gas or anything, but a little stingy on the eyes.

The next obstacle was either not completed or something because it too was not functional. It was supposed to be 'walk the plank' where you climbed up onto a platform then leapt into a pit of water. Instead you just climbed into and out of the empty pit.

Next was the Berlin Walls, which was just a big wall. Again, some guys helped me out with a leg up to get over it. I fell on the landing side since it was a pretty good drop! But they had straw down which softened the fall! After this obstacle I noticed my safety pin on my bib had opened up. It took me like 5 mins to fix it because my hands were too cold (though they didn't generally feel cold) to function properly!

Then onto the Mud Slide, which was just a steepish hill of mud that you kinda slid down. Not REALLY an obstacle again in my opinion, but fun enough.

Next was Warrior Carry, where you were supposed to try to carry a fellow mudder across a distance. Since I was doing this on my own I wasn't sure what to do. So I kinda just walked part of the section till the halfway point where you were supposed to switch. Since I said I wanted to try all obstacles I finally found a girl willing to let me try. Unfortunately she wasn't the smallest girl and I had knelt down too far so she could get on, that I couldn't stand back up again. But I did try, though was a bit disappointed in my inability to 'squat' that girl's weight.

Funky Monkey... those stupid uber slippery monkey bars did me in again. I honestly don't know how any body ever made it close to finishing that! I didn't see anyone get close while I went, most didn't make it past the first bar or 2, in fact, a lot didn't even attempt it and just went around. I tried it but slipped off on pretty much the first bar. You then plunge into a 'pool' of water and have to wade or swim out.

Swamp Stomp is just how it sound. Wading through a seaweed filled stinky swamp that's about waist high.

Balls to the Wall. Now THIS was the obstacle I was probably most happy with. It was a stinking TOUGH obstacle. The tallest wall on course by a long shot you had to use roped to get up this wall (and again the knots in the rope were just too far away from each other to truly be useful!). I made it probably close to 2/3rds of the way up a couple times but just needed just a few more inches to get to the next little 2x4 step. Most people attempted it one or twice then just moved on but I really wanted to do it. FInally a guy offered to lend me a hand. Once I got to as high as I could go he pushed my feet up which gave me just enough to get the next step and I was able to make it to the top then use the ropes to get down the other side. I was so happy to have made it because so few people even made half hearted attempts to do it! Wish I had gotten it on video but the photographer was there so hopefully got at least a couple good pics!

Next was Everest, which was a huge warped wall. It did have knotted ropes up at the top but as I was waiting and watching not a single person made it to the top. Even the really strong guys that could make it TO the ropes never made it to the top because it was just too awkward and slippery and the volunteer helpers at the top just weren't strong enough to truly help. I attempted it, like I said I would all obstacles, but when I couldn't even come close to reaching the rope I did move on.

And last up was the ElectroShock Therapy. Watching people before me do it it looked like no fun. You could see exactly when they got shocked as there whole body jolted and they often made a noise of pain. The guy just before me ended up stuck in the middle. Another guy went out to try and help him and well... hilarity ensued as the guy who got stuck stood up, got shocked again, shoved down the guy trying to help him (by accident), then did an epic faceplant over one of the hay bales!! And my mom caught it all on video as I was coming through. (We have watched the video about 20's times and laughed SO hard at it!) As for me. I was narrow enough that I almost didn't touch any of the wires, and the couple I did touch were the non-electric ones so I got off really scott free!

And with a very short jog to the finish line that completed my Tough Mudder! Pretty much exactly 3 hours from when I started. I was really happy with how I felt on course, I felt fit and capable. I passed some people during the running portions and never at all thought that I couldn't make it or that I was really tired or anything. Climbing up some of the big hills on course I often had to go much slower than I needed because the people before me were getting tired and couldn't get up them as quick. The lady that I tried to carry had like 2 friends that gave up and stopped during the race.

After the race though I froze!! Had to go to the 'showers' and get as much mud off as possible. That's when I realized I had ran holes into both of my socks so my big toes were out! (I also 'lost' one of my smaller toe's nails, though not specifically just from the run, that one had been damaged a bit for a while and the Tough Mudder just did it in!) We got those space 'blankets' to help warm us up. Went and changed in the change tents. I was glad my mom was there to help me as my hands and arms weren't working too good. My forearms were so sore it was incredible! Once I changed I felt much better though didn't truly warm up until we got back to the truck and blasted the heat!
Definitely battered and bruised, with some scrapes, and still have dirt in my ears despite multiple showers since, but I will be trying to do the Tough Mudder 2016!!

As for the rest of the weekend (long weekend) I spent it at me mom's house, helping her babysit my brother's kids. I let myself eat whatever I wanted and didn't count calories. Definitely ate a TON. It initially wasn't my intent, but I am hoping that a diet break helps recharge my batteries and I can get back to tracking with a vengeance, though getting back ON track will be tough as always. I was really tired most weekend, partly due to the race, partly from eating, so at times with all the kids (my other sis in law and her 3 kids were down on sunday as well) I just wanted to go crawl into bed. I did take the dogs for a walk this morning at 8am as when I went outside to let them go potty the crisp air felt so nice I just felt like a walk. I also got to see the inside of my new house. It's drywalled and the first coat of paint is on the walls but man they need to hurry it up! I was so happy to be leaving my mom's house today and going back home when my car didn't start!! It took probably a good 10 mins and 15 tries to get my vehicle started. I don't know what's wrong with it. After I got home and turned it off then restarted it and it worked fine, but my mom is on high alert tomorrow morning to come pick me up to get to work if my car refuses to start tomorrow!

It's nearly 11:30 (wasn't expecting it to take so long to write this post) and I need to tidy my place yet in case I get more showings tomorrow so I can't come around to diaries today but I will definitely tomorrow!

Wooo Mystic!!! That looked like it was so much fun!!! Congrats on all the obstacles too, I would've shat myself at a few of them (I don't like going under things underwater either!) Ha, I enjoyed the videos... especially the dude faceplanting :D

Mystic, that was awesome! Well done you! You should be so proud of yourself. You are looking fantastic & are obviously getting so fit. WOOT!!! Thanks for sharing all that with us! xoxo Cate

Wow Mystic, you are now officially one tough mudder! Amazing! I´d like to knew who named the obstacles though, "arctic enema"??? Love your mom cheering you on, I hope you´re as proud as she obviously is.

Thanks guys :)

151 or so this morning. That's what I get for binge eating all the things on the weekend. Tomorrow I will go back to posting my fitbit readings and daily deficit.

Today I felt a little weak will power wise in the morning, but pushed through it and actually felt great and motivated almost the entire afternoon... until just before I was done work. I then felt tired and lazy and wanted to do nothing and wanted to eat and that's unfortunately what I did. Instead of riding and working out and maybe trying out a fitness class I have been thinking of trying out, I did nothing but eat.
I keep making those very dangerous ham and cheese biscuits. I can never just have one or 2 of them after I make them, I always have like 8 or 9!! I also had ice cream and chocolate!
I knew that it would be tough to get back on track after the weekend, but I'm going to keep at it and hope that if I keep posting in my diary, keep weighing myself in the mornings, and keep logging my food (even the really bad eating days) that I will manage to get back on track. The only kinda bummer is I can see myself getting back on track, but only having a few weeks before my New York trip that will cause me to fall back off track again! Then I'll have to fight my way back on track again! However I really want to feel as slim and trim as I can before my trip so I can feel good on my trip! The good news is that we will probably do a lot of walking around and I would like to run each morning as well if possible.

So tomorrow I will be giving this all another go. I have a lighter work day so I plan to go ride my horse after work, come home and do weights and a 5km run, then maybe the class I was thinking of doing today (I don't think it's too intense as it's an intro class to see if you want to continue) or maybe a hot yoga class (still have one more class on my 10 class pass from way back when). The busier I keep myself, the easier it is to eat well!

I completely understand how hard it is to get back on track! And how hard it is to stay there for a prolonged period of time... You have already accomplished sooo much, now is no time for backsliding, you want to look good on that trip ;) I´m thinking there will be some serious shopping involved and where´s the fun in that if you´re not feeling trim? Apart from that: maybe I missed it but do you have an idea of your bodyfat percentage? I keep thinking maybe with all the muscle mass you´ve acquired you don´t need to go down as far as you think (and/or need a bit more real food to get through the day). Best of luck today!

I feel the same as you. I have returned from holidays and i have put on nearly 8 pounds more. I left diet plan during holidays as my friends were eating and i was really jealous so i left diet for days. Now i try to get back on track. It's really hard. I'll start again the fitness class. But my feeling is that i'm hungry all the time and i 'm thinking of food constantly. I remember sweets and food that i was eating during holidays! I have a lot of black chocolate when i need something sweet but again i should limit the amount i eat. I think that this break has disorganized me a lot and i don't find fun even at fitness class as i used before the break. I really need to find fun and interesting at fitness programs as before as soon as possible.

Congrats on the Tough Mudder completion! :hurray: Looks like it was a fun/dirty day and a long course. Have you thought about what you'll be signing up for as a next event?

Enjoying the accomplishment is very important and you've got some great videos to remind you of the event for years to come. The post event challenge for me has always been staying motivated until I've picked a new event to work towards.
