Time2change journal

Hi time2change

Try not to focus on the number on the ticker - I for one hit 197 for the first time coming downwards on the 7th October (and was delighted to do so) and 194 I hit on 19th October. These are not numbers that many people here think are particularly big - whilst can fully identify with your desire to reduce. I certainly only record my lowest weight of the day (morning, after toilet and long walk but before eating - if I eat while out I use whichever is lowest from before and after long walk). The main thing is that you have some scales that you can use to monitor whether you are going up or down from this point onwards.

The main thing to think about is not where you have been or even where you are today - but where you plan on being soon and how you are going to make it happen.

It is drizzly and cold here too. I dont have a treadmill so have to take my chances with the winter germs. I take multivitamins and supplements to try to fend off some of the bugs.

It sounds like your dog is really going to reap benefits from your new healthy living regime. You could both get fit together.

Take care
Love

My treadmill is broke! So, I got a leash and took my overweight dog for a walk. I didn't want to kill her on her first time out, so I just walked down the street and up it. I'm on a pretty long street and I don't know the milage, but I'll measure it later.

I'm posting these before photos. I don't feel so bad because I chopped my head off so no one can recognize me. ;) Those were taken on 10 Oct at I guess 197 lbs or somewhere thereabouts. I'm 5'1. I'm going to try to go out again after I drop my daughter off at school. The sun is coming out, so that's a plus.

I guess I'm going to have to buy a new treadmill if my hubby can't fix mine. He won't be home until tomorrow. So, we'll see.

I'll write later.

Well, I called the company that makes my treadmill and they are going to ship out a part to me. At first, I thought it was a blown fuse, so I went to the hardware and bought 2 new fuses at $4 bucks a pop. Brought them both and put the first one in and POP, blew that one immediately, and the same for the second one. Darn! So, I called the co. and they said if these parts don't work then I need to order a different part. There will be at least a 7 to 10 day wait on the first part. Tell me that doesn't suck! I wonder if the Curves that is about 1/2 mile from me has a week guest membership? I can't join a gym because I made my husband put all the workout stuff in the garage, instead of the house. He will be mad if I get to join a gym and he has to work out in the cold gym this winter. haha... I can't blame him, but I don't want all that equipment in my house! I had to wait until he was gone for the week to sneak it out to the garage in the first place. lol and he wasn't thrilled at all. He can't watch tv while he works out because we don't have cable hooked up out there.

I'm gonna give Curves a call. Maybe they do have a month membership.

What the heck? Curves doesn't have treadmills. They don't have exercise bikes either. Does anyone besides me find that odd?

They are going to give me a weeks free membership. I have to go tomorrow and do a workout with the lady. She is going to measure and weigh me.:eek2:

OMG... all because my treadmill broke! I know I am not going to want to walk outside in the cold and it's gonna be cold and rainy here for the next few days. I wonder if I did 1/2 hour on my exercise bike if it would be the same as a mile workout or close to it?

I'm freaking out because I don't want to break my groove!

I just got back from a 30 min walk. I walked up and down my street. I didn't realize how long my street was until I walked it...;) I'm going to go out with my car in a few to see what the distance is. I live on a old country road and I was surprised to see two cop cars stop in front of a house across the street from me and then handcuff the man that was in the house. On my way back past the house, two cop cars and then two ambulances. I hope no one got hurt. They're still out there now. I hate to, but I have to go back out.

Yea, it was a bit windy, but the earphones cut down on the wind in my ears, so it wasn't that bad. I'm anxious to see how far I went.

And on that note, I'm outta here.:jump:

I drove my car from one end of the street to the other and my street is exactly 1 mile long. My house sits exactly on the half mile mark. That makes it easy to measure. ;)

So, I guess I walked a tad bit over 2 miles today. Not bad!

I'm dead tired, so as soon as I finish cleaning the kitchen I'm gonna watch some tv and go to bed. Hubby will be home tomorrow. :)

Hi

I havent sorted out how to put up photos yet. I tried but it got rejected because it was too big. I have very few photos as I have hated having my photos taken for a very long time. I will have to try to attach one again sometime.

Well done for sorting out a way that you can continue your exercise regime even when your treadmill is broken. I am pleased that you didnt break the regime when it got difficult. I always feel good about the day when I have got my first walk in - I kind of feel that whatever happens in the way of food later I cannot really think of the day as being negative for the project.

I am surprised that the gym has not got treadmills. I would have thought that they all would.

It is handy that your road is exactly a mile long. It makes it quite easy to work out how far you have walked. At least when you walk outside there is no concern as to whether the dog will be happy with the noise (as on the treadmill) and she will certainly enjoy and benefit from the exercise. If only the weather was better it would almost make a positive out of your treadmill being temporarily out of action.

There is something quite satisfying about walking until you feel physically tired. I am sure that you will have enjoyed the rest more.

You will be looking forward to your husband returning home. I am sure that he will be impressed when he sees how motivated you are towards your project.

Take care

Good morning!

For some reason, I couldn't sleep last night. I think I was over tired and got a second wind or something.

I weighed myself this morning and the scale said 194. I know I'm holding water, so hopefully after this week passes, it will come off and I'll see a bit of weight loss.

I've got that appointment with Curves today and I'm so tempted to cancel it. I know they are going to do everything they can to talk me into a year membership. I think the big deal breaker was no treadmills or bikes. I get real defensive when someone tries to sell me something when I don't want it.

Margaret, does it snow a lot where you live? I was thinking about that last night on my walk. I usually see several people walking my street per day, but when winter/snow comes I don't see any of them. I live in Michigan and it gets COLD here, and sometimes we get a lot of snow. I can't imagine walking in the snow and really cold weather.

I found a treadmill on craigslist for $200. I think we might get it. I hate to buy a brand new one--and I really hate to buy another one period, but I have a feeling mine isn't going to get fixed even with the new parts coming. My husband is leaning toward us getting another one because he doesn't want me to get out of the habit of walking, now that I'm actually using the treadmill. So, we'll see.

The hotel he is staying at has a gym and he tells me there's this one ab machine that he loves. He wants me to look around and find one to buy. I'm not too keen on that idea. We have enough machines! It's a big machine and my garage is already full.

Ok, I gotta run and pick up my daughter from school. I don't have to take her to cosmetology school today, but I have to pick her up at 4:30.

While on my way to pick up my daughter, I noticed a new gym was opening up very close to my house! I stopped and got the phone number and gave them a call. I like the fact that the gym is open 24 hours. My husband and I can both join for a little under $50 bucks a month.

I decided to call Curves back and cancel my appt. I can't see joining a gym that doesn't have a treadmill. In seeing the address, I realized it wasn't the same place I was thinking of. I was thinking of Lifestyes. I knew I saw treadmills in there! LOL..... So, I made the mistake of thinking Curves was Lifestyles. I won't join Lifestyles now because they hound you to death about a membership and I can't stand that. I think hubby and I will join this new gym.

It is raining here now, so I'm going to delay my walk. Hubby will be home in a few hours and we are going to go check out the new gym.

Wow...so far so good. You're lucky that you have such a supportive hubby. My better half is really skinny so he really doesn't care. When i talk to him about weight loss/diet, i can tell that he gets tired of hearing about it. I wish i had space to put a gym. One day when i move, i will have space. I went to Wal mart to look at machines, i need the ones that can fold up so i can put them somewhere. You're doing good on your soda intake....i used to be addicted to pepsi...lately i haven't gotten the urges like i used to.

Hubby and I joined the gym today. We just got back a few min. ago. I walked a mile @24 min and I rode the bike for 1 mile. I think it was 8 min. but I can't remember.

Shankia---When my husband gets in his health-kick mode, he is obsessive. It drives me nuts. He takes it way overboard. Like we just got back from the gym, and he worked out for an hour. He will sit in front of the tv and do situps and crunches, etc. for hours non stop until it's bedtime. You'd think after 20 yrs. I'd get used to it.

I'm didn't sleep well last night, so I'm pretty tired tonight. I'll write again tomorrow.

We got a late start to the gym today, but I was able to walk my mile @22 min. and then I walked 1 1/2 miles on the bike.

I guess I'm not going to be able to make it to the gym twice on the weekends. We have too much stuff to do on the weekend, and since my hubby is only home those two days, we gotta cram everything in on Sat. and Sun.

Shanika, if you are reading this, I made that turkey-cabbage recipe tonight. I don't think I explained it well enough, so for you and anyone else reading this here's the recipe.

You take 1 lb of ground turkey and fry it in a pan. Remove from pan. I left the turkey drippings ( what little there was) in the pan. Then you take shredded cabbage and shredded carrot, and some chopped onion and put that in the pan. Cook and stir that till the cabbage gets glossy. Then throw the turkey back in. I had to add mega garlic and onion to it to get a taste that was ok for us. Salt and pepper to taste.

I think I have made this recipe with ground pork before. And this is basically the same recipe I use to make yakimando's with only I use beef with them. I always drain and run hot water on my ground beef to get the fat out, so I guess it would be healthy to use beef, pork ( if all fat is drained off) or turkey with the cabbage.

My hubby asked me if I was going to leave him when I got all " hot and thin"...lol... I said no way, why would you ask me that and he said he was talking to the guys at work and he mentioned I was working out and trying to get fit and they asked him if I was having an affair! He said that's what most guys think when their wives start taking better care of themselves and losing weight. I told him, " I ain't going no where!" LOL

Ok, I'm outta here.

ps. I weighed myself this morning and the scale said 193.4. I hope it says that tomorrow too. :)

Hey!

You and your hubby sound like a very cute couple!! Did you decide on whether or not you would get a new treadmill?
I think curves doesn't have a treadmill because they're more about circuit and weight training... i think. my mom wanted me to join with her, but i'm more used to using elipticals and treadmills...
hope you're having a good weekend!! :rotflmao:

Hi

You ask if it snows much here. It actually snows very little here. It would be a particularly harsh winter if we had snow for more than two weeks of the year - and often not for as much as that. We dont really get what you would call a lot of snow even then. Some years we get little more than a couple of light dustings of snow.

I only started going out walking late February - so havent really tried to go out walking in the snow as part of this project. I will see what happens when the snow comes. Maybe we will get a mild winter this year - I hope that will be the case.

Your husband sounds very sweet and supportive. You will be pleased to have joined a gym. Between that and initially looking into a new treadmill he clearly wanted you to have all the facilities for your weight loss project.

Fortunately my husband is very supportive too.

It must be difficult for you if you only see your husband at weekends. I imagine that you will spend every weekend rushed off your feet trying to do everything.

I am pleased that you are seeing a downward trend on the scales. It is always nice to see a movement in the right direction.

Take care

Hubby and I got in and out of the gym by noon today. I walked a mile in 22 min and I rode the bike for 10 min, and it was abt. 1.5 miles. I am going to try real hard to go back tonight. We promised to take our youngest bowling today, and I have a weeks worth of housework to catch up on.

I'm thinking of making that tilapia ( sp?) for dinner, but I'm really not looking forward to it. I hate fish---but hubby loves it. Since he is leaving again for the week tomorrow, I might just make it for him.

Margaret--It's good that you don't get a lot of snow where you are. I hate the cold weather so I wasn't looking forward to working out in the cold garage, much less walking my street in the winter. The wind really hurts my ears, and I just can't take the cold.

The gym is right down the street from my house and that makes it very convenient.

My hubby is very supportive. He used to be so active and he worked out excessively. He never had a weight problem. Then he hurt his back and waited too long for surgery. As a result of that, he developed foot drop. That means that he can't raise his foot with his ankle. He has to swing it with his leg to get it to move. He says he has a dead foot. So, he can't run anymore. He can't do the treadmill. Even walking is hard for him. I guess this condition is permanent nerve damage. He was walking with a cane for the longest time, but if he wears high top shoes, walking is a little easier for him. At least his foot doesn't drag anymore.

I'm used to him being gone. He was in the army for 20 yrs, and he was gone more than he was home. Now, this new job has him gone most of the time M-F, but not always. He was in Malaysia just recently for 6 weeks.

Starryeyed--- I'm not going to buy a new treadmill since we joined the gym. I will probably get mine repaired, so my daughter can use it, and I can use it if I want to.

I am hoping after my period finishes I will see a lb. or so drop in my weight. I always hold water during this time, so I'm hopeful the scale will be nice to me. ;)

I'll write again later.

Tilapia is a nice fish because it's not really fishy -and goes well with a lot of marinades... if you want to experiment wiht fish - look into tuna - it's very meat like in texture --especially if it's cooked rarish - it's nothing like te stuff in the can -and isreally good :)

Try the tilapia -you might just like it :)

Hi Anne

It is a pity that you do not like fish as I was just telling Stacy in my diary earlier that fish is something where I almost always lose weight when I eat it. Funnily enough I had tilapia earlier in the week - and I told Stacy how I cooked it. Mal's marinade idea sounds really good too. I thought that it could have done with a little extra flavour - but my husband said that he liked it as it was and not to do it any differently.

Well done for getting some walking and bike riding. It is lucky that your new gym is so convenient.

It is a shame that your husband has difficulty walking / running. It must be difficult when he had been very active. Maybe the injured area will improve further over time.

I would have great difficulty coping if my husband was away as yours is. I suppose it is something that you get used to. My husband used to work shifts and I was used to that at the time - but I dont think that I would take too well to it now. I have got soft in my old age!

I am sure that your weight will drop when your period finished. This is often the case. In the meantime congratulate yourself if you can stay away from all the chocolate that you could possibly lay your hands on. Half this forum seem to be on a period at the minute if yesterday's comments in Stacy's diary are anything to go by!!!

Take care

I made the tilapia for dinner last night. I just seasoned it with Old Bay seasoning and put it in the oven. Hubby and kids loved it. For some reason, fish always tastes like dirt to me. Someone once told me that because catfish are bottom fish and spend time in the mud, they can take on a dirt taste. And I always taste dirt when I eat catfish, but I thought the tilapia would be different. Good thing I made shrimp with dinner, because I gave my piece of fish away.

We had a heavy coat of frost on the ground this morning. That means winter is on it's way.

I hardly ever have chocolate cravings when I'm on my period. I mean I like chocolate, but it doesn't bother me if I don't have any. I guess that's a good thing. :)

Well, I have to leave to go pick up my daughter from school.
