Time to find healthy..

Glad your back is a little better bluebean. 42o! I am so glad it doesn't get that hot here in Tas. I don't know how I would cope. Would swimming be good for your back?

Have you ever heard of an inversion table? Both my dad and some random lady that I work with got them, my dad because he has a lot of lower back troubles and the lady I work with because she suffers from sciatica and cluster headaches... both have found they've helped HEAPS! Just another option. I would definitely be looking for a second opinion though!

Thanks Oaks! I just did three videos of pilates (15 mins each) to make up for the past couple of days. Was feeling unwell, so the last thing I wanted was to bend in half .. feeling the sweat now though, feels good!
It's hard work hey - some moves I just look at the instructor and think 'how!?'. We'll get there!

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, Q. It means a lot for you to take the time to do that, so thank you :) It sounds like an excruciating battle you've been through, and will continue to be on. But that is amazing that you went from being suggested a wheel chair to doing the running and exercise you do today. You're absolutely right, laying up only helps for so long (around 30 mins lol) before it starts to become a need to move. The foam roller is awful though - I use it, but not willingly. Torture!
Thank you for the offer for any questions, I may need to take you up on that in the future :) I can feel the pilates helping already, the foam roller seems to create more pain but I know it's a good pain.

thank you Caroline :) I find pilates painful as well - especially anything to do with my lower back. I cannot lay on the floor flat, even with my core engaged and bum tucked slightly I have a curve in my spine which creates a world of pain when any amount of pressure is applied to my lower back. But, I can feel it is working, so I will gently keep going. Today I managed my pilates without the use of a cushion, other days I use a cushion under my back for support. Works a treat!

Thanks Mystic :) I will swap you the cold for the heat any day!! :) I wish we'd get snow here.. that'd be amazing.
Back pain is the worst - I wouldn't recommend it :p

Cheers Cate - I keep trying to convince my partner we should move to Tas. The weather looks amazing! He loves it there too.
Swimming would be excellent, I just need to buy bathers and suck it up and go to a public pool. I am a bit shy when it comes to swimming..

luzdafuzz (love the name btw) - I've heard of the tables, but I am scared I'll get stuck on one lol!! I am really glad it's helped your dad, sounds something worth looking into. I get awful twinges if I stretch my back out, and I worry I wouldn't be able to provide a release if that happened on the table. For example if I get into bed and pull myself up to sit up, I (more often than not) get a shocking twinge in my lower back sending shooting pains. Takes a few moments to settle it.

More pilates videos today, and I am stuffed!!!! I should have waited longer after eating lunch.. woops. Now I feel sick.
Back is on and off, today it's okay with tightness, yesterday I could hardly walk. Seems like lucky dip when I wake up in the morning!

I'm walking back in here with my head held slow, hanging in shame. What on earth happened? I feel like I've just woken up from a 6 months coma after falling off the bandwagon. My weight crept back up to 116kg (255lbs), if not more. A lot has happened and changed since I last posted.
I bought a horse.. a small horse ... a foal. I never thought I'd buy one so young, but he's a gorgeous walking fluffy teddy, and I love him to bits. O/h has gone into 'Dad mode' with this one, and he only gets the best lol. He (weanling - he self weaned) has reminded me that I had stopped being healthy. Sugar crept back into my life in a big way, and I caught myself pigging out on chocolates with no real 'want' for them, it was purely habit.

I knew I needed to startle myself to get back on track. I knew the facts, I knew the risks, but I need to see it to really have it sink in. So I watched 'That Sugar Film'. Boy oh boy did that kick me into gear. One of my biggest fears is losing my teeth. They showed the effects of lemonade on this kid who had only a few teeth left that required pulling out to replace with dentures, but due to the sugar or something in his system, the knock-out drugs wouldn't work. Pulling teeth with no drugs? No thanks! They showed the effects on the healthy guy who started eating 'low fat "health" foods', the fat in his liver, the fat in the gut... The following day I quit sugar.

That happened on Saturday, Sunday my o/h (unknowing I had quit sugar) a small meal for lunch. I hardly touched it knowing the effects from cola would have on my system (not a huge fan on coke anyways). I explained I am wanting to quit sugar, and he was supportive. Although he still munches down on choccies .. *sigh*
I made some more coconut oil chocolate (YUM!) which I have a piece at night after dinner with a cuppa. This more than covers my chocolate cravings I get, so rich and smooth. I also made a sugar-free (raw) carrot cake last night, it's ok, bit dry, but edible. I'll try it again in a month when my tastebuds have changed.

Starting weight on Sunday: 113kg
Today: 110.9kg
Result: -2.1kg (4.6lbs)

Sciatica pain was resolved, but it has come back this last week and is causing me great agony. A yoga class starts in my area in September, which I've put my name down for the beginners class. Hopefully it works out and I can stretch out this annoying pain.

So that's my update! I have made this page a 'sticky' on my browser so there is no excuse not to update. Here we go (again..)!

Welcome back, I'm a head hanger also as I just came back in May after being gone a few years. You can do this, the no sugar thing is only hard the first few weeks then it becomes background noise.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, Kaplooie! Well done on returning in May, it's such an amazing journey.

I just need to get through the first month, then it'll be easier. But at the moment, I am working on getting through this hour. One hour at a time. I have been on pinterest this morning looking at delicious no-sugar recipes.. then the dreaded lemon pie popped up. Delicious. Sweet. Fluffy. Evil. I don't like the idea of some of the no-sugar ingredients in the recipes I've found, so the recipes don't work for me. But what I wouldn't give for a slice of that pie ..

I knew today would be hard, my body has finally caught on that I haven't eaten sugar in 3.5 days. The headache is there pounding away, and my eyes are darting around looking for anything resembling something I shouldn't be eating. I might go for a walk before I do something I regret.

Looking forward to my piece of coconut oil chocolate later. Just need to make it to 7pm.

Post your recipe for your coconut oil chocolate. My interest is peaked. And I hate the induction flu from going low carb, so I just try and stay low carb so I don't get hit over and over and over again.

None of this head hanging caper my friends. Heads high & moving forward! [emoji133] We are making positive changes & we are all awesome!

It's delicious!
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/3 cup honey (I have a very sweet tooth, but I think I would drop the honey a little)
1/2 cup cocoa powder (make sure it has no added sugar!)
2 tbs nut butter (either make your own, or store bought. Again, watch the sugar).

I melted the oil first (it's "winter" here (I use the " as it's been a crap season for rain)) so it's a solid. Melt it, add the honey, cocoa powder then nut butter. Found this worked the best for a smooth consistency. Line a small tray/container with baking paper (make sure it covers the sides well), and pour in. Fridge it up for about 30 mins, then take it out using the paper. Slice and dice to your favorite sizes (keep the portions small, it's one heck of a hit!), then re-container it (I layer with baking paper if needed) and keep it in the fridge. I keep mine in the freezer as I like to have it with a cuppa. If it's warm out, it'll melt quickly, and melts quickly in your fingers. But that's okay, it's too delicious to wait ;)

<3 Cate! Your encouraging words always brighten my day. How have you been? I see on your blog you're doing well. Head held high, I promise!

I'm doing well thanks. I'm glad that head is high! Guilt & brow beating is such a waste of energy. As my lovely friend Kate says "onwards & upwards" xoC

I just made my first batch of coconut oil treats recently, and keep them in the freezer as well. They are definitely rich! It is good to have a little something to munch on when those cravings hit.

I couldn't have those in my freezer. They would be constantly singing out to me! WAYY too tempting! How do you resist?

Day 4 and I'm feeling better. Headache is still there, but it's much milder than yesterday (have had this darn headache for 7 days now, am a bit over it!). I think it's related to the weather, it's stormy here today which usually results with a headache (which is such a shame, I love rain). Exercise wise, I didn't do much. Did a bit of weeding, fed the horses, and ... that was it.

Today's eatings were good:
B: nothing, I ran out of everything!
L: small slice of home made lasagna (mum special)
S: Breakfast - porridge with honey + cinnamon (finally got some milk)
D: Steak, steam veg + potato. No sauce. Delish!
S: Cocochoco. Home made and yum! Tea with no sugar.
E: Weeding, and general plodding about.
W: Still the same as yesterday. Can't complain, at least it didn't go up!

Oaks - how are you! :seeya: Yes the chocolate is so rich, but so beautiful. Melts in your mouth - yum!
Cate - it doesn't last as long as you think ;) but I don't feel nearly as guilty about it. My fresh batch is made with less sugar and much nicer. I had 2.5 small pieces and I am regretting 1.5 of them LoL! They just didn't fit into the container, so they had to be eaten.... :willy_nilly:

I have just read another thread with a recipe for chia pudding.. I might just have to give this a go, even though Chia seeds are so expensive, it looks deliciously worth it. Yum! No exercise for me today, it was really humid for most of the day, which I spent preparing for this 'great storm', then the rest of the arvo inside making 2 weeks work of dog food side dishes (that's right, she has side dishes). This dog eats better than I do! So I have a freezer half full of rice/veggies/meat mixed up ready to go along side her Kangaroo meat. One day I'll get round to doing some meal prep myself.. actually I might just jump on pinterest for some ideas before bed (I am a bit addicted to this app..). I seem to be missing lunch (unless I happen to be at mums at the right time..). Porridge really fills me up til about 3-4pm.

The wild weather is here to stay until Sunday, when I plan on doing some fencing in the paddocks. I should also squeeze in a walk on Sunday, as Monday I have work, and the rest of the week I am at a workshop.

Another day, another snack to be had. I love watching the cooking shows with mum, it makes us feel like we can cook anything. Truth is, mum can, but I count myself lucky if I get the right porridge to milk ratio right. I am well known for burning, over boiling, and general destroying of food. Unless it's a dessert, then I have no worries. I wonder how I ever got overweight ...........

minus the honey sounds like what the girls on the r/xxketo boards call fat bombs. I've been hesitant to try them because I completely lack self control.

LOL Lamaria - so do I. Since it's cold here, I altered one of my old dressing gowns to fit her (she's a large dog). So she now attends dinner in her 'formal' wear of a tailor adjusted dressing gown. Not that we spoil her. You should see how the horses get treated.. a paddock of princess'!

Kaplooie - I lack self control with these as well. They're too delicious!!

B: porridge w/ honey + cinnamon
L: 2 small pieces of coconutchocolate (see, no control..)
D: slow roasted chook with veg.
S: more coconut chocolate, slice of raw sugar free carrot cake
E: 35 min walk.

Sucked it up and went for a walk with the dog just now. Its hot, humid, and sprinkling with rain = gross. I am all kinds of sweaty.. yuck! Can't shower until tonight, since it's winter our cheap hot water system doesn't play the game, so I shower after feeding the horses (note: not WITH the horses, in the house at mums). So I get to spend the rest of the arvo in sweaty clothes.. delicious.

No weight change, which is what prompted me to brave the wild sprinkling of rain and take the dog for a walk down, then back up the hill near the school. I don't handle the heat well and munched on some frozen cocochocolate to cool me down. It worked, I feel human again. The dog has passed out on her bed from climbing Mt Everest.. it's not as killer as Killer Hill, but it's such a long damn slope it still burns the buns. The weather is meant to be rainy all tomorrow, so will try to get a walk in tomorrow or Sunday.
Need to wear my runners more often, my feet are in pain from the support they offer. I wear my horse boots most of the time now, which are just so comfortable and amazing. I can do this. I will do this. Head held high and ready to fight the bulge. Stomach is feeling less bloated which is fantastic. I am praying my boobs will get 'less bloated' as well.. would love to drop a cup size. Just one size, in efforts to save my back, otherwise o/h will put in a written complaint..

Good job going out despite the heat! Not sure if those little bombs are the "cheapest" way to cool off though, maybe you could make icecubes with herbs or fruit in them? I feel you on the boob trouble, at my highest weight they felt like they were going to explode at the merest touch!

Most certainly not the 'cheapest' way, I should have opted for fruit. I opted for a baked potato + veg for lunch (before I ate too much chocolate). I also hid the choc at the back of the freezer.
