Throwing up?

Lol, is it such a bad thing to make yourself throw up just once in a while when you over step your daily "allowance" lol.
I'm not turning into a Ballemic or whatever they care called but i wouldnt mind doing it sometimes just on those days where i eat too much.

Also, i have lost a stone so far right, and about 3 weeks since i started my diet i ate ill guess around 12-1500 cals a day, maybe a bit less. Then later i came across this website:

And i tried it for a while, next time i got on the scales i had lost about 11 lb's in about 4-5 weeks.
I dont know if that lean diet plan helped, or was it that boost you get when you start a diet?

I'm not a doctor or anything, but personally I wouldn't do it because it's unnatural and gross... And it could easily turn into a full-blown eating disorder if you're not careful.
Everyone has days where they eat too much and feel like crap. But as long as you're persistent in your exercise, those days won't matter in the long run.

Once or twice wouldnt do anything, and i have control i wouldnt get into any disorder.

That is seriously dangerous thinking and I'm surprised you would even suggest that it might be okay. Don't do it, no matter how strong you THINK you are, since yes once or twice WOULD do something bad. Just... don't. It's not smart.

Keep asking for help here on the boards. There are tons of people here to help you with your diet, your exercise, your whole mentality toward a healthier lifestyle. Part of that lifestyle includes sometimes going over your intake goals when you don't mean to. It's not the end of the world, it just means do better next time. And folks here can help you with that. Just give it time.

Well no one really reads my diary and it often gets pushed onto the next page because everyone is posting in other peoples diaries. I just get annoyed with this forum sometimes.

Don't take the diary thing personally, it's the fastest section in the whole forum, I have the same problem.
I was just saying that, even if you only tried it once or twice, you would get used to it, and one thing would lead to another...

Here's an idea....instead of trying to rationalize over-eating by participating in a puke fest....try not eating so much!

It seems like a no brainer to me.

And Eazy, it might be of no consequence to you but if you start making yourself throw up I'm not going to talk to you anymore. It's wrong and stupid, don't do it.

Thats a bit unfair. So if one of your friends develops a weed addiction, you would just not be friends with her anymore?
Its the same kind of thing.

I'm not going to sit by and watch someone that I know hurt themselves. It's their choice, it's your choice. Do the right thing and people will stand by you and help you. Do the wrong thing and people will leave you because they do not want to sit by and watch a loved one destroy themselves. Bulemia is not an on/off switch. Bulemia is not like alchohol. You can have a drink without becoming an alchoholic. You cannot binge and purge without being bulemic. Please, I beg you. Do not do it. People will not want to sit by and watch you kill yourself. You'll hurt yourself and everyone around you.

Please, please, please....promise me---promise yourself that you will not do it. This is that 'fork in the road' kind of moment. Choose carefully.

I'm just bored of this diet thing. I only need to lose 1 stone, other people have lost 6 stone +, and its taking ages for me. I cant even do cardio for long before im too tired to carry on, there is no way out.

There is a way out. If you get to tired doing the cardio---eat something high in protein before you go exercise (like a protein bar). It'll give you a bunch of energy to help you really have a great workout. Also, there is no law that says you have to exercise for a full 30 minutes without stopping. Get off the machine for 5 minutes, rest, get a drink of water, and then hop back on--that's what I do. Sometimes I do 3/4's of the cardio workout; get off and go do my weight lifting and then come back to finish off the cardio. It takes a while to build up the endurance that's required for those machines--take it slow and at your own pace. Inevitably though there's always that one psycho who's rippin' it on the elliptical machine that makes me feel like an absolute wimp---but I have to remind myself that I'm me and their them and that it's just silly to compare apples to oranges.

You only have a little way to go....but doing it the wrong way is going to bring consequences that you haven't even thought about. What if your parents caught you doing it (just that one time)? Think about their reaction. Think about the huge can of worms you would open. Here's a few: loss of trust, concerned looks everytime you put a piece of food in your mouth, standing by the bathroom door, talking with councelors, enrolling you in support groups, monitoring your every step. Your personal freedom would be taken from you, only to be left with shame, embarrassment, and your family breathing down your neck.

Promise me that this is the last we'll hear of such talk?

Ok fine i promise.

Yeah!!! :) Gotta run---it's chick flick night at my sister-in-laws! Yes, I know sounds corny...but I'm excited about it---well a little bit more excited about the brownie and ice cream than the movie. :)

Talk to ya soon!

I did the puking thing for a very short time. It was a bad, bad idea. I only puked once or twice a week, but within 3 weeks it was starting to feel addictive. I had stomach aches and problems keeping food down. This was only from puking 2x a week!!! I also didn't lose very much weight. It'd seem to drop but then it came back two-fold. That's because I was dehydrating myself! I now found it's way more productive to cross off a bad day binging as a "cheat day," take a mylanta, and move on.

Problems with forcing yourself to puke are:
A) It ruins your teeth and gives you disgusting breath (even if you can't smell it, other people WILL)
B) The weight you drop from it is also mostly water and nutrients--not calories, and you become addicted to binging as your body kicks into survival mode. It makes you want to eat more and it hangs onto calories (this is why some bulemics tend to stay overweight).
C) Puking regularly can cause incurable and dangerous problems

FWI, bulemia is defined as forcing yourself to purge more than once a week. If you do it enough (twice a week or more for a month) you can become addicted. Your mind becomes accustumed to associating a full stomach with puking, and the vomit burns away your esophagus (the tube in your throat that seals up food and acids your stomach).

The act of purging also puts a lot of pressure on the heart. For this reason, people who vomit often can end up with serious heart problems. In fact, many bulemics don't die from malnourishment--but from heart attacks.

Add in mouth sores, bleeding gums, nasty digestive problems, and it's hardly worth it. There are just so many better, healthier ways to lose weight.

My cousin used to be bulemic for a few months last year. We finally got her off it. She said that it felt horrible throwing up, but it was addictive, like she'd get fat if she didn't. She was overweight, no doubt, but the puking made her feel worse and honestly she didn't get any thinner.
A couple of weeks after that she went on a diet with a little exercise, and she looks great now.
Don't fool yourself. Making yourself throw up won't help at all. You may lose a couple of pounds but they'll all come back along with depression, headaches and sickness.
You've probably heard this before, and I'm sure everyone here has, but a sensible diet and maybe a bit of exercise will help greatly in the long run. Granted, it does take a while to work, but when it does you'll be much happier. You'll see. There are so many examples right here on this forum.

let me begin by saying its not something you want to get into if you have no issues with it. I have been a bing overeater and bulemic going on 2 years now. I have my good weeks where I think I dont need to do it and am on the right track, where I've abstained from overeating enough to not make myself purge. But there is always a breaking point, I will have that extra cookie, breadstick, or bite at a restaurant and my trigger is pulled where I know I can just go throw it up so I continue to eat until I'm so uncomfortable I can barely breath. Once you start its virtually impossable to stop without proffesional help. Everyone is right, when you are making yourself purge your not only throwing up the food you ate but vital nutrients like electrolites and stomach bile needed to properly digest what food you do eat. Your also hurting everything from your stomach lining, to your throat, to your teeth. you dehydrate yourself, which makes it almost impossable to work out, you feel light headed, nauseas, anything you do eat automatically starts coming back up. Your body starts compensating for the food you allow to stay, by storing it for fear you will throw up more. its a vicious cycle that you do not want to start. I have heart problems, and have been in the hospital 2 times because of my purging. DONT DO IT.

so this thread is a bit old, but i just wanted to say that i hope that you didn't go through with this line of thought, E. i've struggled with eating problems two times in my life, and both times were absolutely horrible. the second time i barely ate anything, then when i WOULD eat, i would want to throw it up. . . . i actually forced myself to throw up in a restaurant bathroom once because my boyfriend's dad was trying to get me to share an appetizer with him and i couldn't bear the idea of adding the calories. instead of getting something better for me, or having ONE of the appetizers or limiting my portions, i ate and then threw up.

it was god awful. i was so unhappy and tired all the time. absolutely miserable. i would not wish that on anyone, and i feel so much better about myself now that i'm doing this the RIGHT way. and if i fail, i'll get back up and do it again until i get it right. use the forum as your support system. you can do this! you want to lose the weight and KEEP it off!! throwing up food first of all doesn't make you lose weight (the majority of calories are consumed in something ridiculous like 10 minutes), causes major health problems, and even if you DID lose weight - do you really want to utilize that as something to get you there? wouldn't you rather stick to a plan you could use for the rest of your life? i dunno about you, but i hate puking and don't really idealize the thought of doing it for the rest of my life. but eating tons of fruits and veggies that are delish? sounds awesome!

we're here for you!!! and you've done terrific work so far! that's something to be proud of, and if you feel like you need an extra boost, add some more intense exercise or drink an extra two cups of water!
