I see that the African grey has its beak fairly open. We sometimes go to a park where we hand feed wild corellas and ring necked parrots. The corella beaks look vicious and they do bite sometimes. IYet although it's hard enough to hurt it's not enough to stop us trying again with the other birds. I guess they have a lot of control over how they use their beaks.The bird wasnt biting his ear - just nibbling. Kinda like dogs lick, and cats purr, birds just nibble lightly. Doesnt hurt, its like a baby gumming your hand kinda thing.
People who dont understand birds often freak and yank their finger back, teaching the bird that a nip will make human do what they want, therefore turning a good bird bad
The grey and red/pink bird nibbling the ear is an African Grey - one of the smartest and most expensive parrots around. They have the mental age of about 4 or 5 year old child. They can do basic math, recognize colours, shapes etc as well
