Thousand Day Plan

Happy New Years.

I'm male, 51, 250 lbs and plan on losing 100lbs or so of fat over the next two years and then another year or so toning up. Want to keep weight loss slow to give my skin a chance to adjust.

Actually started to change my eating habits a month or so ago and survived the holidays more or less intact.

Weight Log:

Two weeks later and I got under 230 pounds. First time in a long time that I have been in the 220s. Bit worried about losing weight too fast but I am eating over 2,000 calories per day. So I guess I'll enjoy it while I can.

New goal: 215 by May 1st.

As long as you are eating healthy (and 2000+ calories should be fine) you are ok. Well done on your work! If you feel that you are going too fast, then lessen up a little but chances are what is going to happen is that fast weight loss will slow down.

Wow! 27 pounds since November! Sounds liek you are on the right track!! Are you just eating differently or are you throwing exercise into the mix?

Congrats on the weight loss so far & good luck reaching your goal!
Actually it's 20 pounds but who is counting? Guess I am.

I try to do cardio workouts 4-5 times a week. Just starting strength training as well.

Two more fun-filled weeks have gone by. Still on track. High School soccer starts next week. I referee games. Should be interesting.

Sounds good man, don't neglect the strength training, 3 times per week. As important as cardio is, it's over emphasized. You really don't want to start eating away at that lean mass. Your diet is already at a healthy deficit, your cardio may bring it into the realm of not so healthy.

A good way to gauge is by following a strength training program, and if you notice that your legs are regressing in strength instead of plateauing or increasing, then either up your calorie intake, or reduce cardio.

Six weeks in to this thread. Gotta be the longest that I have kept a New Years resolution. Soccer season has started. Feels nice to be able to run around without that extra 30 lbs. It's very cold though.

Wow! You're doing great :)

But the closer you get to your healthy weight the harder it is to take those last pounds off so I don't think you have to worry about going "too fast," but so far you are doing awesome! Keep up the great work

First off, a big thank you to trusilver and shawnnam. Always nice to get feedback.

These last two weeks have been a bit different. In spite of the truly abysmal weather, soccer is in full swing. Instead of doing much cardio in the gym I spend a lot of time on the pitch running around. Nice not having to carry around an extra 40 pounds.

I still try to do strength training a few times a weeks and have not noticed any real decrease in muscle capacity. Certainly no increase but I'm happy to be staying about the same. And the weight is still dropping off.

Fitday shows me averaging 1700 cals/day over the last 4 weeks. 50/30/20 carbs/protien/fat ratio. Somewhat low but not too bad.

Wow...awesome job man! You must be a machine when it comes to cardio!!! Maybe the weather will improve and make soccer a little more enjoyable.

Take care,
Fit

Couple of more weeks have gone by. Bit more weight loss.

Went the full two weeks this time without checking my weight. Found that I was eating less as weigh day was approaching. Skipping the weigh date helped me to avoid this.

Not much time in the gym. Mostly spending my evenings doing soccer. Seems to be working okay.

My 4 week fitness average still shows me at 1700 cals per day. 50/29/21 Carb/Protein/Fat ratio.

Weighed in at 196.5.

Couple of milestones reached:
Under 200 for the first time in 20+ years
Half way to my target weight
And my BMI is now under 30. No longer officially obese. Merely overweight.

Not much time spent in the gym but when I do get there I always do my strength routine. Don't seem to have lost much strength based on these activities. Still enjoy cardio more.

Four week average food intake still at 1700 cal/day. 48/29/23 Carb/Protein/Fat.

Goal for April is to stay under 200 and perhaps loss a few more.

Mis Bee and Verobc - thanks for the encouragement.

The journey continues. 186.0 this morning.

My old scale was starting to produce some very erratic results so we got a new one. Seems to show about 4 lbs lighter than the old one but the transition has been made. At least the new one is consistent.

Hovering around 1650 cals per day of mostly healthy food. Think I'm going to bump that up and focus on fitness for a few months. Soccer is just about over so I can get back to the gym on a more or less daily basis.

My son is now lending me his clothes. I have gone from a size 46 waist to size 38. Of course the real challenge is to keep it off. Lot's of folks have commented on my loss so the pressure is on to maintain.
