Taken yesterday (July 1st '09)... ugh.

This picture makes me want to join an online weight loss/fitness support forum.

June 28th

I'll weigh and post another pic in a couple weeks and see where I'm at.

Positive changes I've made in the last 3 days:

Going vegetarian (again)
Regular Exercise
Drinking Water
Replace "boredom eating" with my more productive activities.

UPDATE: Current weight 09/05/09 @ 278lbs (2 months from start)
Just joined a gym up the street from my Apt. Feeling awesome. Still got a ways to go.

Wish my willpower luck. I'll need it.

Hello BillyHaleck,

You can do this!! Just fight the battle of the bulge!! You could take your measurements every week too! Sometimes inches come off b4 the number on the scale drops. Which can be a nice motivation as well. Taking a pic every two weeks may be right up your alley, I like to take my pic once a month. :)

Is there a reason you're going vegetarian...besides cutting out meats? Or is that just a main goal? Have you done that b4? Or is it JUST to lose weight? I know other's have done it, and it is doable, I would just think it may be setting yourself up for failure, if it's too big of a push right now. (unless you've been a vegetarian on and off for most of your life and know how to keep those protein levels up. :)

What kind of activities are you interested in doing? Walking, Running, Riding, Swimming, Sports, Fitness Class?

I've found 2 liters of water to be a great amount per day. It's cleared some of my skin, washes out my body, helps break down my food, ect. :)

I think you already show tons of strength for posting a pic on a weight loss forum, and I am glad you're able to join us in losing weight, as well as changing your lifestyle for the better!!

Take Care :waving:

Way to go committing yourself to health, but I have to echo runninggirl's comment... why go vegetarian?

Do you feel that if meat is part of your diet you will eat too much of it? Is it a belief thing? The reason I ask is because meat is like anything else, an important part of a diet but can be bad for you.

potatoes? surprising low in calories, great baked or even done up with a little olive oil for breakfast. Deep fried fries? Not so much.

same thing for meat right? grilled chicken breast, steak, the occasional lean burger? fine and dandy. Battered chicken wings or a triple cheeseberger? Not so much.

As for your other three points, those are freaking awesome. I combine the boredom eating and drinking water into one, and now I always have a glass of water next to me when watching TV or on the PC.

I was a vegetarian for about 2 1/2 years in my earl 20's and I have to say I haven't ever really felt as healthy eating meat as I did when I didn't. Plus, it just opens the door to greasy unhealthy foods for my lack of personal willpower to step right through and over-indulge. All my best eating habits were way better in check when I had limited my diet to vegetables, whole grains and beans...and tofu (not for everybody but I love the stuff) So I would say most of my reasons are health motivated. Although, I don't mind the clear conscience of not eating animals..but I'm not gonna get on a soapbox.

As for the exercise , I have about an hour break to kill during my workdays to spend walking up a steep hill that's close and for at home I've recently purchased a jump rope that seems to work pretty good for getting my heart rate up and a matt to do floor exercises.

Also bought a cruiser bike to take down the boardwalk on weekends just to get out of the house.

The only thing I've have to get better at sticking too is drinking water. Seems so simple but is actually the thing I forget to do the most. A LOT less alcohol and a LOT more water.

good luck man.

but you might want to sneak in some meat because you'll get a vitamin deficiency from the missing vitamins usually provided by meat. or you could take vitamin supplements.

your at the stage that i was when i started and now im down 40 ish pounds :D.

Honestly you carry 300lbs VERY WELL!
I would have never guessed you as that!

GOOD LUCK THOUGH ON YOUR WAY TO A HEALTHIER YOU!! :seeya:

Spending a day on this site and checking out everyone else's "before and after" pictures are pretty motivating. Seems like the best route is to just go a day at a time and keep my head in it. Some of the stories and pictures on here are just really amazing.

wishing you all the best as you start on your journey....i'd recommend opening a forum diary, they're really great for accountability and getting encouragement from others too.

i agree with the above poster that you carry your 300 very well....i'm 313 and my first major goal is to get the heck out of the 300 club....step by step we'll be able to get to the end of this long journey. all the best xoxo

Yeah, I've been told by a few people that I don't appear to weigh 300 pounds. Which is nice I guess. But the scale doesn't lie. All South Park "big boned" jokes aside, I swear I actually have really high bone density or something.

All through high school I always thought of myself as chunky, but I've recently watched some old camcorder footage of myself as a 16 year old and realized I was nowhere even close to chubby. It's amazing the perceptions we project onto ourselves. In actuality, I didn't even start to put on a lot of noticeable weight until I moved out at 19 with friends. It's amazing how much year after year of excessive beer drinking and BBQ's can put on the pounds. I might have well just carried around a maple syrup IV drip with me for 10 years.

I'll look into starting a Diary thread for myself here in the coming days.

I wish you luck on your journey. One thing that helped me with my snacking was replacing the bad food with vegetables or even popsicles (only 30 calories in one).

Taken yesterday. ugh.

Replace "boredom eating" with my more productive activities.

Cannot be overemphasized enough. This is one of the biggest factors in my weight loss. I know when my problem times are (after lunch, after work and after dinner) and I have to fill those times with activities that don't allow me and my refrigerator to see each other. Whether that means going to the gym, the library or taking my daughter for a walk, I have to do it.

Finally reached my 15 pound mark! While I still have a ways to go figured it was time to acknowledge the small amount progress I've made. Pretty proud of myself for the lifestyle change. Starting this deal July 1st at 300lbs and hit my first mark (284) by mid-July really gives me a boost of encouragement.

I'll try to update pics sometime in the next few days...not sure how drastic the change will appear but I am definitely feeling better.

Thanks again to everyone on this forum for inspiration and support.

stick with it bro, we are in a similar boat I started out at 285lbs and it has been a struggle to exercise and stay on my diet but each day its starting to get easier and more routine, I had the same problem with bored eating and sitting in front of my TV and/or Computer just chomping away at the ice cream/brownies/soda/etc.
Things will get easier trust me, your energy level will start to skyrocket and you wont feel sick and tired 24/7 anymore... GJ bro NEVER GIVE UP!!!

good job on the weight loss! you look good!

i understand that you started your fab weight loss journey last June. We can't wait for your August pics.

You looked good on your most recent (July) pic.

Finally updated my picture for The month of August (in first thread post) Really glad I've gotten this far over the summer. Just joined a gym up the street from my house yesterday so I'm hoping to be updating pictures bi-weekly in the coming months. Diet is goin great and I'm starting to have tons more energy. Still a battle though. Can't thank this forum enough for the support.

great job on the weight loss so far dude...ive lost around 20 pounds so far also...i know how tough it is when you have a good amount of weight to lose...im hoping to end my journey being under the 200 mark for the first time in a long time....what do you think your goal weight is?

Thanks, I've been keeping the goals in 50 pound increments. Starting at 300lbs last July I am shooting to be close to or at 250lbs by Christmas time. When I reach that I'll be resetting my ticker down to 200. Really trying to not think about the road and the goal so much because I am creeping up to it a good a good pace and weighing in once a week. Averaging 10 pounds a month is something I am completely comfortable with.

yeah...i guess you have your stuff together then because thats probably the best way to be going about it....im a little more impatient and i like to know that i will be down under 200 at some point...so that is my goal...about 185...i dont know why i dont like smaller goals...they just dont seem to motivate me as much...good luck on your weight loss...looking forward to seeing what you can accomplish...
