This Time Imperfect.

Yes! I like several songs from them. :)

I wasn't expecting someone to catch the reference, though. :)

Oh, I'm an old fan. Been listening to them for over ten years now. Admittedly, I haven't liked their last two albums as much, but everything up to Decemberunderground is gold.

I was having some issues with the computer, but I believe (and hope) it's fixed now.

I'm starting to get a more positive weight again :) I reached 85.9 kg after the awful binge of Jan 6-7, but my weight was 83.6 Kg this morning.

I haven't been counting calories, but I've limited myself to 3 meals per day. I've found that having some sort of determined barrier (either meals per day or calories) is actually very helpful for helping me staying on course.

If I don't, I just get very anxious about how much I'm actually eating. Eating anything 'bad' or too much WILL send me on a binge because I think I've screwed my diet. So by having a limit in either calories or meals, I can either log it, or just replace a part of my next meal with 1 serving of what I want to eat, and I won't stress about it.

I think it boils down to feeling in control of one's diet, just limiting the type of foods won't cut it for me. I NEED to have a clear upper limit (Either calories or other way of controlling intake) of how much I want/can eat. That way I know I'm not overeating. Otherwise I obsess about food, completely cut out entire groups of food, I'm much more likely to binge, and just feel bad all-around.

It's a small detail that I didn't pay attention to, but it does make a great difference. :)

Enjoy your weekend everybody! :)

-Athala.

Hey there! Glad your positive attitude is coming back. That's nice to hear. I like your way of thinking of either sticking to a calorie limit or just three meals a day. I've only counted calories a few times throughout my journey. I find it to be too difficult when it's something that I make myself. Prepackaged stuff is easy, but I hate trying to dissect a meal just to see how many calories is in it. I'm just trying to make smarter choices.

Glad you seem to be feeling better too. There's definitely some bugs going around. Hopefully I'll miss out on the "fun".

This is great! I think identifying our triggers and coming up with a plan of action to combat them is key to getting results AND keeping them! Well done! :)

Hello Mandy!

I'm starting to apply that same principle to my workouts too. For instance, I've decided I want to do 1 hour worth of exercise every day. It doesn't have to be too hard, but if I don't want to do anything I'll walk until I reach 1 hour.

It does seem to be helping me a lot. By setting specific mini goals to accomplish on a daily basis I stay a lot more focused, manage time better and actually accomplish a lot more.

Of course this can be counter-productive if the goal is set too high, but the idea here is to use a small specific goal, and steadily make more and more progress over time.

Take care and thanks for stopping by! :)

I weighed at 83.7 Kg today. It's .1 Kg more than yesterday, but I'm not really worried about it.

Walked for a total of 70 minutes yesterday, I divided that in two sessions, but the total was 50 mins of regular walking and 20 of brisk walking. I've been trying to minimize the time I waste every day, and used my new-found free time to stretch. I did 55 minutes yesterday worth of several different stretches I've learned from yoga. :)

As of today, I walked for 60 minutes, 15 of those were at a regular pace at the remaining 45 were brisk walking. I wanted to add another exercise and did 50 squats and 50 push-ups during the course of the day (I divided the 50 in two sessions). I'll try to add 5 reps every time I decide to do it again.

I also spent around 1 hour stretching today.

I'm a bit sore from the push-ups and all the stretching, so the plan for tomorrow is just taking two long walks of 45 minutes each, not brisk walking, just regular pace, and I'll probably do some light stretches as well.

Thanks Jade and Quercus! :grouphug:

I'm not sure whether some of you may remember this, but some time ago I found this calculator that estimates your VO2max and 'fitness age'

Athala said:
I just saw a note about this on the news, and I thought it was interesting.

A Norwegian university made a calculator that supposedly gives you an estimate of your "fitness age", as opposed to your "real" or chronological age.

Probably won't tell me anything I don't know about my fitness condition (*Cough* Horrible! *Cough*), but I do find it to be at least interesting.

Anyways, you only need a measuring tape and your RHR (Resting heart rate), which you can measure with a bit of patience.

And to encourage you to try it, Here are my results (Which, by the way, are awful. and that's putting it nicely); :)

Well, as you may see, I represent a 48 years old person... Which is just ridiculous. (And bad, really, really bad.!)

Here is the link to the Calculator; [/U]

For measuring your RHR, you can use a free tool such as Online Stopwatch; [/U]

It has changed quite a bit, as it is now used to gather statistics, but the results remain pretty much the same. Here's the comparison between November 05 of 2013 and today;

Apparently, I'm 3 years "younger". Still quite old, but at least it's not as bad as it could be. My RHR did improve a lot, though. From around 86 bpm to 70 - 72 bpm. Still a long way to go, but it's nice seeing some progress on things other than weight.

I guess that's it for today. I hope you all have a great week. :)

Thanks Cory! The drop on RHR was a nice surprise, and something I was looking forward to.

I weighed at 83.7 Kg again. Not what I was hoping for, but nothing to worry about just yet.

I fasted until around 5 Pm today (I had to go out somewhere and generally dislike eating anything before doing so). I've eaten two meals but I'm pretty satisfied so I'll probably skip the third for today. I should be at around 1140 calories at the moment.

I've gotten some unsweetened cocoa powder to add to milk/coffee. It has roughly 40 calories per 10g (2 teaspoons), and it does gives a nice twist to flavor. Apparently it is also a great source of antioxidants.

The first 45 min walk of today is already done. I'll probably try to do 75 minutes and try to reach 2 hours, instead of just hour and a half. We'll see.

If I'm still stuck by tomorrow I'm going to actually up the calories a bit (1500 - 1800 maybe) instead of keeping them low. Seems counter-intuitive at first, but I'd like to see what happens.

Take care everyone!

-Athala.

Well. I've been doing relatively okay the past couple days. I also got some form of exercise in every day with the exception of Thursday.

I decided to start a little water fast on Wednesday, and also used that opportunity to try and practice meditation as well. I ended the fast a little past the 48 hours mark, as it was getting pretty tough (Dizziness, nausea, etc.). I ate a small meal yesterday's night and I'm feeling pretty good today.

I over-ate some 'inappropriate' stuff the night before the fast (NOT the way to start a fast), but I didn't seem to gain any weight by the next morning, which is weird, if you ask me. Anyways, here is the weight log;

Tuesday 14 = 83.0 Kg.
Wednesday 15 = 83.0 Kg.
Thursday 16 = 82.5 Kg.
Friday 17 = 81.6 Kg.

I've walked for 1 hour today. I'll probably try to walk a little more in the afternoon.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I was just trying a new yoga class today. It's 1 hour and 9 minutes long, but I only managed to do the first 42 minutes. It's a very very tough class.

The planking at the beginning is hard, but all the sequences with the warrior poses at the middle of the video killed me. I'm still pretty happy with 42 minutes though.

Here is the class;

-(edit)-

I've finished today with 1 hour and 20 minutes of walking, so that's a total of 2 hours. The walking was just regular pace.

Fasted for the whole day. I'll probably go back to (relatively) normal eating by tomorrow.

I'll do low intensity cardio tomorrow and possibly some stretching as well.

Great job on the Yoga! It's a great feeling when a workout is tough, but then after you do it a few times it gets easier and easier. Before you know it you'll be amazed that you struggled with it. Keep at it! :)

I hope you'll resume normal eating soon. That fasting stuff makes me nervous. I'm sure you know what you're doing and you're doing it the right way, but it still worries me when I see people doing it.

Thanks for stopping by Mandy! :)

I'll try that yoga video again in the future and hopefully I'll be able to finish it some day. :)

And don't worry - I did resume normal eating today. I'll probably do occasional 1-day fasts, but I'm not really considering a longer ones for the time being. If for some reason I want to do longer time, I'll have to slowly build up to that.

On my first try (that would be Wednesday 16 - Thursday 17), I did manage a little more than 48 hours, but it gets really uncomfortable after that time. I actually ended up vomiting bile (not something I'd like to repeat) a few hours past the 48 mark, and that's when I decided to eat something.

24 hours are easier and I don't seem to experience much discomfort (and it's probably for better, as it puts less stress on the body).

Have a great week! :grouphug:

I have done 1 day fasts in the past and they get easier to do, but it's very difficult to do much on those days and I certainly couldn't maintain the exercise I've been doing lately. If it works for you then go for it, but you should pay attention to what it does to your energy and activity endurance. Barfing bile is obviously a super no no. Take care bud!

Hi Athala, Thank you for repping me! I really like you adding things to the motivational thread! You worried me a bit hearing of your fasting. Please be very careful. Personally I think learning to eat healthy each day is a much better long-term plan, rather than going to any extremes, including fasting. Fasting "slows your metabolic rate down & can also be dangerous if you have any underlying healthy problems, if you are not already eating a healthy diet, or if you've got liver or kidney problems, any kind of compromised immune system functioning, or are on medication - even Tylenol." You have been doing a lot of research I know (I do too :blush5:) & sometimes I think we can over-think things. I think it's much better to eat a healthy diet based on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. I think you have been making some excellent changes for the better with your life & I don't want to sound like your grandma (and/or a nag) but please be careful Athala. Cheers & thanks again xo Cate.

Definitely be careful with fasting. I know a lot of people who do them, but none of them really go passed 24 hours.

Thanks Quercus, Cate and Cory.

I tend to gravitate towards extremes sometimes, but I'm interested on health as much as I'm on weight loss. I do believe that some fasting can actually be beneficial to physical/mental health and that's my main incentive to try it, as opposed to just weight loss. I haven't really planned on long-term fasting.

Don't worry, I'll be careful and stop if I do feel nauseous/dizzy.

Well... I've had a lot of ups and downs (I.e: weight) mostly because of consistency (The lack of thereof) but I've been slowly coming down.

My lowest weight so far was 74.4 Kg (This was a couple days ago). I did screw up yesterday and today pretty bad, so I have no idea of my weight at the moment.

On January I pretty much stopped exercising altogether. My Resting heart rate is a bit higher again (Around 80 bpm, I think). I still haven't made any progress towards exercising again, but it's one of the things I need to do.

I'll turn 17 in little less than a month. In one more year, at this date, I'll be almost 18. I just realized this the other day. There is still a lot of things I need to do and a lot I need to change. I won't always have the luxury of time.

I'm not in a big hurry to lose more weight (in comparison to last year), but there is still a lot I need to lose. I'm using body fat % as a guide now rather than weight, and I'm around 22-23 % at the moment (according to my scale). I don't have an specific number as a target, but I'd like to go as low as possible (within reason of course), and the faster I do that, the better.

I will probably not write here a lot, but I hate leaving things half-way done, and that includes this diary.
