There is always a first time

This is my first on-line diary, so not sure what to do. But here goes.....................

I am a 44 year old mum of two gorgeous boys aged 8 and 11. I also have gorgeous doggy called Buddy and a husband, sorry mean gorgeous husband and dog called Buddy! I presently weigh 265lbs, this is not the heaviest I have ever been but I feel now more than ever is the time for change.

I have had a yo-yoing weight problem all my life. I have tried every diet know to man so this time I think it is time to try something new. I have banned the word diet from my vocabulary. I am starting on a new ‘life plan’ because I have many things I need to change not just my weight. Food has always been my enemy and I am going to try to change that and make it my friend. I can’t keep fighting it; I need it to survive so I might as well make it work for me. Don’t know quite how yet, I can but try.

I know there are things that have to change:

I have to learn to make time for me.
I have to say no.
I have to stop fighting the things I can’t change and change the things I can.
I am going to slow down when I eat (sometimes I swear someone steals my meals they disappear so quickly!!!)
I am not going to eat in front of the TV or at my computer, so if anyone hears munch coming from this direction please shout!!!
When I feel tired I am going to take time for me.

If I can achieve just some of these it has to be for the good.

Take lots of small steps and before you know it you have reached your goal.

It’s going to be a long and winding road and I am looking forward to the journey................................

those are some great goals!!! I think a lot of us "married with kids" often forget to take time for ourselves and the next thing you know, you look in the mirror and dont recognize the person you see

Good luck!!!

Well its 6.50 am on the first day of the rest of my life. Feeling positive. I am showered and ready for work, the kids are still in bed so I am going to go and make my breakfast. I as going to take my time and enjoy it. I have even made chicken soup for lunch. Haven't thought about tea yet, I will think about that in work.

I am going to post each day, good or bad (more important on the bad days!).

we CAN do it, we WILL do it, we ARE doing it!!!!

Hey there, welcome and yes posting dailey helps a lot, if you keep yourself updated you can go back and look at what does and doesn't work as time goes on. It also lets us nosy readers know what's going on so we can make suggestions.

I know diet is the evil work and counting calories can seem like a bitch but honestly it does help. Fortunately the nutritional info on the back or side of food often makes it easy. as long as you've got measuring cups it becomes really easy to see how much you're putting in and then it's just a matter of working more than you're eating.

As a married woman and a parent you have a more restricted shedule but the time out you take just for you can be time that's both relaxing and can be used to work out.

I'll be checking in regularly and I hope to see you sticking with us. ^-^

Well promised to post every day so here goes.

Yesterday not bad at all, I'd say 75% good 25% not so good, but hey its a lot better than it used to be.

Just need to plan more for the weak moments i.e. getting home from work really hungry, late night in front of the TV. But each little steps adds up to a big leap.

we CAN do this, we WILL do this, we ARE doing this!!!

Hi shellyB, congrats on taking your first steps on this healthy life journey!

I am finding that if I have a small healthy snack just before I leave work, I'm not so hungry when I get home from work, then I don't binge like I used to, this may work for you.

Keep up the good work.

I have found the hardest part in dieting is not the execise, It's the food!
As mothers we value our quite time when we have our kids in bed, we want to sit on the computer or in front of the tv and EAT!

Just going to a grocery store to buy diet foods last night was a challenge, there is high calorie foods calling your name from every direction! lol

I can tell you that Im only in week one of my diet and my body already feels differently, I don't feel so full and I have had alot more energy!

It is about making time for YOU! YOU deserve it!
Keep pushing yourself and don't give in to the calories!
You can do it!
