TheDarwinFish - Phase 2

Sara said it perfectly. It's cold as shit, but it's a crisp, clean feeling that's indescribable. Just don't stay out in it for too long. Another fun thing to do is to fill a mug with boiling water, take it outside and throw it up in the air. It instantly freezes, turns into a fog/cloud and floats away. Quite amusing.

HAHA That's hilarious JZ because it's true. I'm so guilty of that fuck :D If you can find that comedian I'd love to see that bit.

I've been having a great week. My diet is great from 6am until 7pm. I need to get those last couple hours under control. However, I ran Monday, went for a skate Tuesday (that was awesome, I missed it!) and went for another run last night.

So it'd been a long while since my last run until this week. Monday I didn't have my iPod so I couldn't time myself. Last night it was charged and I timed myself.

Before the shit hit the fan, I believe my PB was 17:44. So after a month and a half of eating like shit, drinking way, way too much and not doing any exercise other than getting off my ass to go get more bad food/drinks... (added 5 lbs in the process :/) I had low hopes about what my time would be on the run.

I've mapped out a 2-mile route around my new place and last night, in the snow, cold and non-level route (I miss that about my old route)... I did the 2 miles in 18:04! Shitty, indeed, but WAY better than I was expecting. That made me feel pretty good. Tonight I think I'm going to hit the pool for some lengths. My new building has a nice salt water pool (and sauna!). It's very well kept so I've been meaning to try it.

Oh, and my knee's been right as rain so far! I was also worried about it after all the time off. Not even a twinge *knock on wood*.

I've got a perfect diet mapped out for today. I just need to stick to it. It's all starting to come back together. Beach-ready by my birthday is one of my goals... even though May is not beach weather here. Sara can attest to that as well.

That's very interesting about how you two described -32 weather. And I'd definitely like to try the boiling water in the cup trick.

Putting on just 5 lbs sucks but it's better than TWENTY and you're now back in control, so

Glad your knee is better. When in May is your birthday and how old are you turning?

Thanks, JZ. That's awesome.

Yeah the 5 lbs really pissed me off... after working so hard for so long to, to go fuck it up like that in a month. Meh. Unnecessary. But like you said, better than twenty and it's so back on now. :D

My birthday is May 6 and I'll be turning 33. Egad. I hated writing that!

Well aren't you the cutest thing ever! :beating: Nice new avatar!

Hmm, you and JZ are both 32. Once I axed him and was like, what are you, 40? cause I was thinking about Trops and the fact that JZ has 3 kids already (YOUNG, I should have thought twice) and MAN he hasn't let me live it down :rotflmao:

32!!! ;) :D

that's not the only thing Fish and I have in common, we both look like actors... He has to SUFFER through being compared to Giovani Ribisi, and i get to CELEBRATE being compared to Chris Farley!!! :smilielol5: :smilielol5:

I just followed some of my friends to your diary :) I am glad to see ya having a good week after a not so good month :)

Hey Fish! Hope you're having good ones man. How's the wheels holdin' up? I read that your leg had gotten to be an issue with the running in the past.

Hey JZ, it was a busy weekend. Didn't get much done. I'm still working on getting into my groove/routine. My weekdays are much better now... weekends are still a bit sketchy. I'm just working on shit, running around buying shit that I realize I need but don't have. Meh. Sucks. But it won't last forever.

Legs are doing great so far. *knock on wood* My legs were terrrrrrrible back when I started running. Had to quit for a while. Lost some weight and tried again with much better results. Then I ran the 8-mile race back in September and that put me out of commission for another month and even after that I still had a bit of an issue in my knee after about 1.5 miles. I don't know if it was the month and change off between December and when I started up again, but my legs are 100% so far doing the 2-mile route. I am going to stick with 2 miles for another week or two and then bump up to 3 and see how that feels.

My diet today, provided I can stick to it in the evening is perfect! Friggin' perfect.

Calories: 2331
Carbs: 217g (37%)
Fat: 72g (28%)
Pro: 207g (35%)

Now if I could just nail that diet like that on weekends I'd be laughing. :D Damn booze! Ah well, I'm out enjoying singledom so a little bit of booze is bound to happen.

Good to hear the leg is holding up! And damn, I get that "re-stocking" shit!! Sucks... big time... but as you wisely said... Meh!! :D
Also, ENJOY THE SINGLEDOM!!! For me, FATHERDOM trumps the SINGLEDOM, but not always... ;)
Have good ones man. :cheers2:

My running book is pretty stringent on warning against bumping up the mileage too fast--so yeah, take it slow, man. :coolgleamA:

I have been dry for 2 weeks. It's great because my diet is working and I have NO hangovers on Sundays :D It's also a terrible test of willpower since I'm not only a professional drinker, but in the wine industry as well. Enjoy your single life but I must admit, although I sure miss alcohol, I don't envy you :p

Yeah, I'm totally taking it slow. I don't want to bugger up my shit again. It's nice to be able to run again without having to worry about how far I'll get out before I start feeling something in my knee.

And congrats on being dry for 2 weeks! That's fantastic. Hehe, as for the single life... it's been 8 years since I was last single. I'm enjoying the fuck out of this. It'll lose its luster in short order, I'm sure... but for now... it's SO on.

I'm *almost* back to my pre-December numbers! Not bad for 1.5 weeks! This morning's weigh-in put me at 171.2 and 20.5%bf. I don't exactly remember where I was when November ended but it was in the 169s and flirting with 19%. So I'm excited to be seeing that progress.

My diet last week (and first half of this week) was good as far as the numbers went, but my sources weren't the best. I was relying too heavily on supplementation (protein and fish caps) to get in what I needed. That said, today is ***two thumbs up*** as far as diet goes. Very little processed food (just deli meats and evening soup). I imagine my body will enjoy this much more. So I'll post today's menu.

Calories: 2578
Fat: 79g (28%)
Carb: 248g (38%)
Pro: 216g (34%)

6:30am
-------
President's Choice Fibre First multi-bran cereal (60g)
Neilson Trutaste 1% Milk (1 cup)
Whey protein (35g)

9:30am
-------
Low sodium tuna (1 can) w/extra virgin olive oil (1 tbsp) & spicy BBQ sauce (2 tbsp)
Wild Alaskan Salmon oil (6g)
1 med. apple
1 calcium pill
1 multivitamin

12:00pm
--------
Sandwich (WW Bread, Cheddar cheese [20g], turkey breast [57g], black forest ham [39g])

2:00pm
-------
Low sodium tuna (1 can) w/extra virgin olive oil (1 tbsp) & spicy BBQ sauce (2 tbsp)
Wild Alaskan Salmon oil (6g)
1 med. apple
1 calcium pill

4:00pm
-------
Sandwich (WW Bread, Cheddar cheese [20g], turkey breast [57g], black forest ham [39g])

6:30pm
-------
Campbell's Healthy Request Fiesta Vegetable and Black Bean (1 can)

9:00pm
-------
Neilson Trutaste 1% Milk (1 cup)
Whey protein (35g)

So there it is. Only 2 servings of the whey protein/day (as opposed to 4 or 5) and the fish oil caps top off my fat requirements. Whole, natural, REAL food is always better than supplementation. I don't imagine it will affect my weight loss much but I like eating so *I* will enjoy the shit out of it.

I'm thrilled to be back on track and to have really nailed the diet like I have so far. What's more is it's adaptable when I want to start dropping calories as I drop in weight. I can use teaspoons of olive oil, cut the milk out of the evening protein, cut the protein in half... lots of options.

If I can manage to not fuck up too much on weekends, I'm on good footing here.

Though I do have a visitor coming up from Florida next week... that will likely result in a poor diet week, but I'll limit as best I can. She understands I'm trying to be healthy so I think she'll understand if we don't get too gluttonous while she's here.

Hope everyone is having a good week!!!!!!

Last two days' weigh-ins were VERY close to each other so I'm going to make the leap and assume they're fairly accurate. Close enough for jazz, anyway. So that would put me at 172 and 20.6% bf. Which would be a 2.4 lb and 1.1% loss from my weigh-in a week ago. Not to put much stock in a single weigh-in... but I like the way/direction things are going. Have a good weekend, everyone!

Great job Fish! It has to feel good knowing that once you got back into "routine", the weight is heading in the right direction. Have a good weekend as well! :cheers2:

Hey Fish! Thanks for stopping by my thread a while back. How are you? Love the new pic, you are too cute!! I'm digging he spikey hair look.

Nice job on the 2.4lb loss!!

Thanks MJB! :D :D You're too kind.

JZ, yeah, I'm absolutely lost without my routine. Like today. Well, this week I'm off work. Not that I'm eating shitty today so far... but it's just not structured like it is when I am at work. But it also gives the chance to eat things that I wouldn't otherwise get to eat so much due to lack of prep time.

Well this weekend was kind of a write-off with an unexpected overnight stay at a friend's place and not getting home til 4:30 the next day and then Superbowl Sunday. But it was a fun weekend all around so I'm not complaining.

It's been almost a year now since I started this whole lifestyle change. I took a comparison shot from a picture of me on the beach in Mexico to today. It's posted in my pics thread. I'm pleased with myself. It's been a long haul, difficult at times, but I've managed to pull through even the toughest and most unexpected life changes and I think I'm better off all around. I couldn't be happier. Well, I could... when I reach goal. :D But that's not too far off if I buckle down.

Here's to a great week for everyone!
