The Wii Fit Journey for Jenna

I have been sick of doing the same old borning treadmill and boringness! I just finally got the Wii Fit yesterday that I've been wanting for so long but have been sold out! Let me tell you, it is SO FUN, and you have so many varieties of things to do!!! And I was REALLY out of breath, where in my normal exercises I NEVER get that out of breath and sweaty. It is unbelieveable! And so much fun!! Today will be my second day of doing it. They have four different categories, which are Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics, and Balance. If other people are using your system to, it keeps their points and stuff so you are trying to beat them which is fun! Everyday, it weighs you on their balance board and gives your BMI. The weight is very accurate too. It said 159 for me last night which is definitely what I weighed on my other scale! It tests a "Wii Fit Age" and gives you this whole body test and balance test. They give you fun things like Hula Hooping, and step classes, and even running!! The running is so cool your just jogging in place and you hold the Wii remote and you follow behind your trainer running through the park LOL. I am in LOVE with this thing so far!! You set your goal to however much you want to lose in however many weeks/months/year. The highest you can go is -22 pounds at a time. So I set a goal of 22 pounds in 3 months. Strength Training is so cool too. Push Ups are a KILLER! I am now going to keep a diary of this program every day!

:biggrinjester:Hi there! Welcome to your journal. I have been hearing great things about the Wii Fit programme; alas, it is sold out in Canada, as well. It sounds like it would be a great bonus to my treadmill!

Best wishes as you pursue your goal! And...avoid Denny's :Angel_anim:not to mention hospitals! EWWWW!

cheers and hope all is well,

*I think i'm going to go back to the treadmill and eliptical and stuff because I don't see this program as the BEST tool for losing weight. Although it is fun and gets you moving at least which is better than nothing, I want to incorporate my normal workout back in the picture along with playing this too!

Weight is going to fluctuate on a regular basis... you might want to consider not weighing yourself daily... instead pick one day a week, and weigh at the exact same time... measurements are an even better way to go than just the scale...

if the WII is something fun to get you moving then by all means do it - but keeping more traditional exercises isn't bad either... just doing something is good.

I'm not a huge fan of the aerobics portion of the WiiFit. IMHO the hula hooping gives me a good workout, but whichever direction you go first in SuperHula really hurts my right leg. Neither the boxing nor the step ones make me break a sweat, and the free step comes right out and says "extended periods of low-intensity cardio are great for you." Which is so not the case.

OTOH, I love the strength training bits. I could actually get my form decent and do a real pushup (as opposed to a girl pushup) within a few days of getting the WiiFit. I'd tried countless times at home without the Wii and could get down but not back up - not even one time. Definitely not a substitute for a gym, and there are plenty of things I'd improve if I were King of the World, but 30 minutes of it and I'm drenched in sweat and limp as a noodle. The yoga bits are less intense, but I enjoy them.

Exercise in general IMHO isn't the best tool for losing weight. For keeping healthy and preserving muscle, sure. But not for losing weight.

So today I have started back with my normal exercise plan, and am still going to do my Wii fit of course!

Today I walked 2.0 miles on the treadmill for 32:15 minutes and burned 197 calories. Then I got on the eliptical and did .5 miles for 10:52 minutes, and burned 93 calories. Last, I got on the exercise bike and biked 1.0 mile in 4:01 minutes and burned 7.3 calories. SO, therefore today I have exercised 47:08 minutes, and burned 297.5 calories. Good so far!! I'll write back later. :p

Jenna - its great to hear your opinion of the Wii Fit. DD wants one for her BD Mid-Aug. they are sold out here in Pittsburgh too. At least I have about 6 weeks to try and find one. I tried my cousins the other day and loved it. I think it, along with your other exercise will really help you make goal. Keep up the great work.

Wii fit is so much fun!! I love it so much and am so happy I finally found it. You will love it too once you find it! There are a bunch of videos on youtube of people doing it and they're funny if you want to check them out haha.

but the scale might not go down every day and it's not because of something you have oir haven't done... your exact words were that you were mad... if a scale increase is going to affect your emotions ( and i know words on the web aren't always reality) then infrequent weigh ins tend to be better.. and focus on changing the habits...

Wii Fit

wahhhhh!

I want a wii fit! They are sold out everywhere and everytime I look for one. There was one time when I went to Walmart specifically to get one and there were TWO right there in my grasp and my hubby changed his mind and said we had to wait. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. :toetap05: Then the next week he changed his mind again and said that we could....and they've been out ever since.

What's your favorite part? The jogging looks like a lot of fun...I LOVE watching the youtube videos!

~Kristi~

Sounds like you're doing great on the exercise. I have to weight myself every day too, even if it will make me annoyed for a little bit. It keeps me motivated no matter what it says :)
