The Single BEST cardio for abs??

The Single BEST cardio for working your gut

I've been having a little debate with some of my friends as to what they think the single best form of cardio is to work on your abs! I've always thought it was running (especially if you tense them slightly whilst running), but others have said it is swimming...or the rower...or the elliptical trainer..or something completely different!

..is it possible to prove which is best/ or has it been proven?? anyone have any ideas? Thanks..

What do yo mean 'for abs'... You mean like to work them? Probably running because you must lift your legs, but cardio is exactly that, cardiovascular exercise. Not really focusing on your abs.. In the end, weighted situps work them best lol (<~ that's my vote)

When I said 'for abs' I actually meant for your gut. I know cardio doesnt work abs directly, so let me change the title of the thread...

..Done. So, as far as getting rid of your gut? ...I've always thought the best cardio is running.

Diet is best for burning fat(near impossible to burn fat w/o watching what you eat), and the best exercise for losing your gut... To lose your gut, you must burn more calories than you take in. So whatever exercise you do that burns the most calories is best. This could differ for most people, for the most part, running.

Studies have shown (don't remember the names) that the best cardio for buring fat is 1 min sprint> rest 30 sec> 1 min sprint.

aka H.I.I.T.

There is a forum section on this, but in the end it's debatable..

there's this bike in my gym that the trainers told me that kinda works your abs and the other bike works more ur legs..I asked them if there was any difference between both..

the bike that is supposed to work a lil bit the abs

the "regular" one

The first image you inserted is what I normally use at the gym for my cardio. I know a lot of people who say that using the reclined bikes is no good and you have to work twice as much as you would if you ran, but in my own experience, I've found that it works pretty well for me. But like it was mentioned up above, it's all in the person, no one thing will really be the best for everyone.....Now if only I could get my damn eating habits right so I wouldn't have to worry about this all the time. LOL

The bike is debatable i think. I cant really see how that would exercise your gut, since you sit down most of the time and so the muscles around that region arent really contracting/relaxing.

I would say my diet is pretty good, although Im a firm believer in "eat what you want, but work out HARD!" ..to a certain extent anyways, I try not to eat much junk, but sometimes I just fancy a treat!

I run/row a lot and my gut doesnt seem to be getting any smaller! ....think im gonna take up swimming! Maybes 50-60 lengths will get rid of my gut!

Honestly, you can do anything with your abs. You can do anything with your core. Right now I am typing with my core. It's your friggin center of power, it's where all your power should be generated. Sounds kinda farfetched but try it when you get on something that doesn't seem like it would be...hell, you could be doing it right now while sitting at your computer reading this. Concentrate on your core and sit up straight. You're using your abs right now. Breathing can use abdominal strength. When you breathe, breathe in from the nose and concentate on getting the air into your belly, all the way down to your navel. Your belly should rise and inflate like a ballon. You're working abs.

Well, aside from my little speil, good cardio is anything that gets your heart rate up, burning fat. If you've got fat on your belly, then you're getting rid of it with cardio. Just remember to push it hard.
