The Road to BodyBuilding

Hey all, I'm around 6' tall, 205lbs. Body Fat % will be calculated later. I have a passion for working out, though the goal of a six pack hasnt been quite achieved yet. I've struggled with fat for awhile, I got educated on gaining and losing weight, so Im hoping this is the year for the six pack. Recently my friend entered a body building competition, and I think that was great, and it inspired me to consider entering possibly in the summer, or when I find I have the body for it. I'm currently on the UConn Men's Crew team which gives me one hell of a workout, burning over a thousand calories most days. I'm posting pictures of myself from last spring weighing around 185-190, and pictures of myself now. I will update with pics every so often. Supplements I'm taking consist of Animal Pak Multivitamin, Animal Cuts, Whey and Casein protein shakes. I currently lift 2-3 times a week on my own, and twice for crew, as well as 6 cardio practices for crew a week. My overall goal is to be down 10 pounds by around February. Any advice or anything would be great. I find having a place to upload pictures and keep a sort of log to keep my incentives up and helps me get through it.
PS The lighting isn't the best for the new pictures, I haven't much definition in my body since spring.

Hi mate,

- Hows your diet? (approx protein intake, calorie intake, meal frequency)

- So how many times in total are you lifting weights and what does your routine(s) consist of?

- You've got a solid base and if entering a BB comp is a goal then you could definately achieve it with some hard work. Will it be a natural competition?

And as you know mate, you will need to lose a lot of body fat before the competition.

:D

My diet is fairly good, I'd estimate around 200-220g of protein a day, around 2500-3000 calories a day. Most days is starts with a protein shake or power bar, then breakfast, protein shake after lifting, lunch a little after that, dinner, and a casein shake at night. This week I'm lifting 5 times, generally speaking its around 4 or 5 a week depending on the crew workouts, and crew provides me with 6 cardio sessions a week. On average I get around 100kilometers between the rowing erg and running a week.
The competition type i haven't looked into too much, I take a decent amount of supplements, the only thing i could imagine not being allowed may be creatine, though i don't take that now, or possibly USB Labs Jack3d. I could just get off of that if that's the case.
And yes, im aware i must lose a lot of fat, crew here at UConn is to put it bluntly, brutal. I'm trying to keep my diet in check, I'm hoping to be down around 10-15 pounds of fat by the time February hits, which would amount to losing around 5-8% body fat, is that goal too unrealistic? I also will hopefully find out my body fat % soon this week, I don't have calipers, though my friend on the team does, so I'm going to talk to him.
Thanks for the response

I would guess your body fat is 18 - 20% and to be in a bb contest, you would have to get down to about 7%. so here's the math:

Currently: 205# x .81 (assuming 19% bf) = 166# non-fat weight.
Goal: final weight = x. (x-166)/x = .07x.

x = 178#. There you are! Lose 27# without losing any muscle and you will be where you want to be.

It's a challenge, I love working out, and I cleaned up my diet once again for weight loss. I think I'll be where I want to be before the crew season is over, which is at the end of April. I weighed in at 199 after practice the other day, granted it was after practice so i could have potentially lost weight from that and my stomach was near empty. I'll probably post more pics in a couple weeks for an update.

Hello guys....!
Awesome detail on your diet and workouts. I hope you keep it up with all the detail and pictures. It will be very interesting to see the specifics of how you progress....!
