The PAPrincess' Diary

Thanks, Randy. He hasn't posted grades yet. This is by far the most awful class I've had in this grad program. Thankfully this is my last class.

Day # 583 - The Willpower Wins

They posted grades. I got 100%. That makes me laugh as I put in 20% effort. But, whatever, an A is an A and I'll take it! Go ME!!!

I had to run over to the store on my lunch to get salt (for my tasteless soup) and crazy glue (for my fingernails that are loose.) Anyway, they had buy one get one free Jolly Ranchers Jelly Beans. People, these are my absolute favorite candy of all time. I could live off these jelly beans. Regular jelly beans taste like mud next to these babies. But, I resisted. I pinched my hand and kept walking and resisted the desire to devour them all. Yay for me. Now I just need to make it through Easter. They stop selling these yummy beans after Easter is over.

So, I'm doing ok today. I was rushed this morning so I didn't have time for a good breakfast. I grabbed a banana and had some yogurt when I got here. Then, I had a grapefruit as a snack. Lunch was homemade veggie chicken soup, tuna, and fresh pears/strawberries. When I get home I'm going to go for a walk - hopefully the weather will hold up. NO rain, NO rain!!! Then, dinner will be broiled chicken and veggies. And, probably an apple for dessert. I'm trying to not eat any carbs. I had to have the yogurt this a.m. though, it was the quickest thing to grab in a hurry. I also have to clean out my car tonight and hopefully scrub up the seats while it's still daylight. Oh, and fix my seatbelt thingy that broke off this morning - ugh. I hope I can find the gorilla glue. I can't remember where I put that stuff.

Anyway, pray for me that I stay on track. I've been off far too long!

From one PAPrincess to another: great job on the jelly beans! Awesome showing of willpower!

Correct me if I'm wrong - but if you're trying to avoid carbs - aren't fruits pretty much nothing but carbs?

By carbs I mean breads and pastas... I tend to interchange my words.

I did enjoy a few jellybeans yesterday - it is the Easter season after all. And, I don't eat chocolate, so a few jellybeans on a Sunday won't kill me.

Day # 589 - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

So last night I found myself watching TLC and came across this show, "I can make you thin" with this baldy little Englishman. Well, I'm all about whatever new tips can make me thin...hoping for a miracle cure in the next 60 minutes. That didn't happen, but he did have some great advice, which I'm going to share with you... Basically he promotes four golden rules to weight loss.

Four Golden Rules:

1) When you are hungry, EAT. Basically don't deprive yourself.

2) Eat what you want, not what you think you should. Don't eat diet food because you should. He tells you to throw out food that doesn't inspire you. And, to eat pizza, mac 'n cheese, etc. - don't deny yourself.

3) Eat CONSCIOUSLY and enjoy every mouthful. Basically the old moderation is key approach. He suggests putting your fork down between bites, slowing down, and enjoying the food. He also says no distractions while you eat - no tv, no radio, no reading...

4) When you think you are full, STOP eating. Don't be a member of the clean plate club. This is a hard one for me. I never really know when I'm full. And, I definitely don't like to waste money on leftover food.

Here are the web sites for episode and further information.

and

I'll take any advice I can get. I bought his book last night cheaply online. I'll let you know how it goes once I get it read. Today I started off pretty well...and I know I CAN stick to it...I just need to do it! The worst thing is lack of exercise. I just have been so bad about it the past month or so. Excuses aside, it's just not happened...and that needs to change. I have cute summer dresses to fit into by May. It doesn't help that it's Easter week and loads of candy will be temptingly coming my way...as well as birthday cake for my niece. I can eat consciously...but moderation and me don't make a good match. I consciously make bad choices to gorge it all in... that's been a lifelong struggle for as long as I remember. I need to make a big change. And, one friend is pushing me towards a YMCA membership and weekly workout... that could possibly be one way to make a change. (Peggy, this is NOT a yes, yet! I am thinking though.) Liposuction could work, too ;-) Or, duct taping my mouth shut? That's always a final option ... but nah.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you... go have some GREEN lettuce or GREEN apples or something healthy and green. I'm going to try to avoid the Mickey D's Shamrock Shake...but, I do love it so!

I never really know when I'm full.

And, to eat pizza, mac 'n cheese, etc. - don't deny yourself.

Then these two can't be a good combination, perhaps ??

What's wrong with going back to the good ol' way you lost 102 lbs originally ??

I know it sucks but sacrifice has to be a key component in this journey somewhere. There just isn't anyway around it.

Oh, and don't make me shoot the Easter Bunny. I will if I have to :cuss:

I appreciate it...yes, please do shoot Mr. Bunny before he has a chance to hop on over and drop some chocolate goodies and sweet jelly beans in my direction!

It's so sunny outside right now and I'm sooo stuck inside working for another hour and 20 minutes. I so want to be home walking the dogs!

Day # 590 in da "Burgh

Today I went to lunch with some former co-workers for one of their birthdays. They chose Primanti Brothers. And, for anyone familiar with Pittsburgh you know that means just one thing............GREASE and lots of it! The sammies come with fries and cole slaw and greasy cheese dripping all over. It is a in a word....YUM. But, fear not fellow dieteers. Willpower prevailed. I checked out their web site in advance and found they had grilled chicken salad with fat-free dressings available and an all vegetable soup. I asked that there be no fries on my salad (a Pittsburgh staple - the waitress seemed offended) and little cheese. Kudos to me! This was after my grapefruit and boiled egg breakfast. Why the boiled eggs? Well, I decided to keep some in the fridge ready to go..on such mornings when I'm running too late for smoothification. Today was such a morning. I wanted a smoothie, just lacked the time. And, my ready-to-gos were still in the boxed they were wrapped in and not sufficiently chilled for the car ride in.

Anyway, so that was a successful way to handle dining out in Pittsburgh. Tonight for dinner I have broiled chicken. I have to eat it soon. I made it last week and it's going to go bad if I don't finish it this week. Oh and I have some veggies to eat, too. And, strawberries for dessert. It's raining here, so I might have to buckle down and use the treadmill of death...I hate the treadmill. I much prefer walking outside. And, then after the Biggest Loser is on at 8. I love that show.

Enjoy the day!

Lucky you. Male customers get tossed out if they ask for 'no fries' :(

Nice job on controlling lunch. Primanti's is no easy place to do such, for sure.

Thanks Trucker, I was really proud of my no-fries lunch at that establishment.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter. I'm off work tomorrow and probably won't be looking at a computer again until Monday. Hope the Easter Bunny is good to all of you and brings only low-cal jelly beans!

Day # 598

Hi Gang....

Been a while since I've posted. Got a little busy. Then Easter hit, then jelly beans came...and donut frenzies... and blah blah blah... I'm slowly getting back on track. I have a big new "plan" of attack for action to get the scale moving DOWN again. I'll fill you in when I start it. I've just been in a rut for the past few weeks. I did walk this week, so that's good. Yesterday I ate acceptable... taking in yummy breakfast smoothies again and ready-to-go ones for lunch. Yesterday a friend stopped in for lunch and treated me to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. I was behaved and got the grilled chicken salad. If you've ever been to Ruth's Chris you know about their yummy warm bread and butter they bring to the table....over and over again. I did have some bread. It was yummalicious. I then kept it simple and light for dinner - just Progresso's tomato basil soup and a 60-calorie vanilla pudding. Today I've had a smoothie so far and also a pink grapefruit. For lunch I've brought another smoothie...but I'm thinking of heading out to pick up a tuna wrap and saving the smoothie for dinner instead. I should get home tonight in plenty of time to walk before daylight subsides. I love that it's so light still when I get home. Spring is definitely great for re-energizing....everything.

Well, just wanted to touch base. Oh, I quit Weight Watchers. I figured I wasn't really following their plan anyway. I did enjoy the meetings, but my sisters and I hadn't been going for a few weeks and it was really just a drain on my bank account. Peggy is trying to get me to join the YMCA with her... but she hasn't followed up with a tour time yet so maybe she's dropping it? :) hee hee.

That's about it for today. Oh, I did lose a few ounces since last night... I had my hair CHOPPED off. Ugh. It's far too short, but it is a nice cut. It'll grow in...hopefully sooner rather than later!

YMCA is all depending on the location... the one here in robinson has really OUtdated machines! And they stuff all their cardio in the smallest room in the facility.

Glad your doing well!

Day # 603 No more eating out...

Hello everyone! After a weekend of truly horrible eating (most of it, sadly, on purpose) I've decided to take a big step for a positive change. I am sad, however, that I never did get to eat chips 'n salsa at Chili's on Saturday night. (Amanda and Shelena, yes, I am still bitter that they ran out chips!!) Anyway.... the big "change"... really isn't all that big as much as it is expensive. I've decided to return to Jenny Craig for at least one month. I had done it back in the mid-90s and lost 70 pounds. I then ran out of money. But now I am definitely older, wiser, and a little wealthier... well, I have some for now ;-) Honestly since it's just me at home and considering the amount of money I spend each week eating out for dinners and lunches...it is about the same as one week's worth of Jenny foods. I stopped in on Thursday for my first consultation and to pick up the foods. And, I started this morning. For breakfast I had french toast. Not bad.... lunch is chow mien. What Jenny doesn't know is that after this first week, I'm going to refuse their breakfast options and return to my beloved smoothies. The smoothies are only about 200 calories total how I make them. The french toast I had this morning was 225, so you can see it's just about even on the calories. So, that should lessen my costs each week since I've already bought the smoothie mix, I don't want it to go to waste. And, I really do like to have a smoothie in the morning.

So anyway, I won't be eating out for a while...or if I do it will be salads only as I do have on-the-go dressing packs. Please be understanding and I know you'll all be supportive! So....we'll have to come up with other alternatives when we spend time together...like walks or movies, bike rides or something like that. Anyone want to bowl some bowls?

Hope you enjoy your day...it's raining here again in Pittsburgh. Yuck.

Day # 604

Having a day here.. complete with major headache and major issues. I'm glad it's almost over. But, I just realized in all the nonsense of my day I hadn't written.

Today I got to eat yummy frosted oats (kind of like cheerios) for breakfast. They were very yummy, and I wanted more. Like an entire box more, but that's not what I'm supposed to eat. I skipped the snack and just incorporated it into my lunch. For lunch I had a southwestern burrito with some salsa. It was surprisingly very tasty. I also had yogurt, a one-ounce mozzarella cheesestick and some pears. I was supposed to have a serving of fruit for breakfast, but decided to just mix it in and have one big serving at lunch. I'm not big on mornings anyway. Then for an afternoon snack (mostly because I was bored) I had my cheese curls. They were a nice afternoon surprise...not bad at all. I think I get BBQ meatloaf for dinner. But, it will have to wait as I have to go to a funeral home for a friend's mom tonight.

I'll write better tomorrow! Enjoy your evenings!

Day # 606

Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't written in a few days. Just wanted to check in with everyone. The diet's been going well. I've been sticking to it with no problem. The exercise? Well, that's another story. I've been lax on that front, but I have walked the bridge to my car the past two nights (thanks, Peg). I just lack motivation. It will come around. Wish me luck I get up early tomorrow to walk...I'm setting the alarm, so hopefully I'll actually get up this time! Anyway....food is good, I'm doing well there.

Have a good night!

Day # 610

Sorry it's been a bit since I wrote. Saturday I had a killer headache and didn't do much. But, had a nice Sunday outside as the weather was so great. I did get in three miles last night, so that's good. The weather was so nice and sunny.

So tonight I had my JC weigh in. I'm down 8.6 pounds. YAY. I thought that was pretty impressive given the fact I did very little exercise this past week as I had been fighting off a cold all week. I tried talking her into letting me do smoothies for breakfast, but she said I wouldn't find I'd have as good a return. So, for one more week I let her talk me into their breakfasts. But, I told her I would be swapping out my smoothies for breakfasts the next week. It's the same calories. She's just a salesperson trying to get her sales, I'm sure. When I got home I only had time to get in two walks around the block, so only 2 miles. But, I did walk across the bridge after work to my car, so that counts for something.

So, that's my news for the night. A few more weeks like that and I'll be happy. She told me it was probably all water weight, which kind of blew my high ... but hey, I'm taking any loss I can get!

Congrats on the loss !!

lmao @ the 'salesperson' You definitely saw right through her.

Fat cells hold water, so what's her point ?? sheesh.

Rock on, Nicole :)

Day # 612

Howdy everyone! Welcome to a miserably gray day in Pittsburgh. It was so sunny this morning. I wanted to get up early and walk, but I had a late night last night and went to bed with a horrendous, truly awful, headache, so I wanted to sleep in to make sure I zapped it. It's for the most part gone. Still a bit of tension. I know that headache was a direct result of stress. Hopefully that stress is gone now...I hope it stays gone.

In any event, I wanted to catch up. I've been walking pretty diligently daily. I've been eating well, too, keeping to the diet. I walked four miles yesterday, three with the dogs, one with myself. This morning I had some mini-wheat-type cereal for breakfast and cottage cheese and fruit. I really do love cottage cheese and those little single packets are the perfect size, even if they are a bit on the pricey side. My problem has always been portion control. For lunch I have some sort of southwestern rice dish, salad and yes, Peg, I remembered dressing today! Yesterday I accidentally brought a packet of maple syrup. I decided not to eat my salad ;-) I also have fruit and yogurt to eat as well.

I didn't get to walk across the bridge this a.m. to work. I had so much to carry including a case of pop, so I decided to ride the shuttle instead. If the rain holds off I'll walk across this evening. I do have an appt. at 6:30, so I'll have to walk really fast so I leave time for driving. It really depends on how long this appointment is...to see if I'll have time to walk when I get home. I have to take a look at someone's computer, so hopefully it's a quick fix. If I'm home by even 7:30 I can still get in a decent walk. If not, I'll have to use the treadmill or something else while I watch Wifeswap or other bad television. I do have the Zumba DVDs which I've yet to use. I could try those.

All in all, it's been a pretty good week. I hope it relates itself to the scale come Monday!

Enjoy your Wednesday...

Day # 614

Hello all! Just wanted to send a quick note. This has been a really good week. I've been sticking to the diet plan perfectly. I've been walking nearly every day. Yesterday I actually pulled in a good 5 miles total by day's end. I also did a little light weight lifting and one machine I have for abs at home. Today I walked the bridge even under the impending doom of thunderstorms. I made it nearly to work before it started to sprinkle, not bad. And, unless it's a downpour, I'll probably walk back to my car, so that's a definite 2 miles for the day. The evening is a big question. I have a few movies to watch, so I may just take a night off from walking, especially if we get the kind of rain we're supposed to get today. It's supposed to be pretty violent thunderstorms. Nothing really much else to report. Breakfast was french toast... uh, YUM! Lunch is some sort of tuna salad and I have fruit and yogurt, too. And, dinner was supposed to be fajitas (which is SO yummy) but they were out of them, so they gave me a substitute of fettuccine. I guess it'll do. I may be mistaken though, it could be lasagna.... I can't remember now.

In any event, I hope you all have a great weekend!
