The Not-So-Sore Loser

Hi everyone!
I'm new here, so hopefully I'm doing this diary thing right...

I started seriously trying to lose weight and get fit Fall 2006. I started at 160 (although I went up to around 170 at my highest), and currently my last scale weight was 150.8. I'm 5'7", so I'm actually "normal" BMI-wise! This may not seem like a lot to some of you, but I've been in the overweight range for so long that it matters to me.

What I'm doing, exercise-wise
: I've learned to love exercise. I either work out in the university gym, take fitness classes at the gym, or do various calisthenics/dance at home. And then the occasional hiking trip or night of dancing with friends. I do a few minutes of calisthenics every day, and generally have a long workout session 3-6 times per week.

As for food: I like to eat organic foods when possible, and prefer a pescetarian diet. But this is hard at the dorms, so I generally eat whatever is there, except for red meat. I use to track my foods and exercise. When I'm at home, I try to zig zag my calories, but at school I just generally try to not be a pig...too often. ;) I still overeat sometimes, and sometimes I eat very unhealthy foods with no nutrition. And I don't beat myself up over it, because I think sometimes you need to treat yourself. Plus, not eating that slice of chocolate cake usually just means I'll binge eat on crackers or something not so great later on.

So that's where I am right now, I guess. I'm trying to lose weight. I'm also trying to get more toned. (I do weight training usually once or twice a week). I'm also trying to eat healthier and be healthier, in general.

That's all for now. Happy losing, everyone!

Today (Monday) started off pretty good, but then rapidly descended into carby pastry fatness. First of all, I'm in the middle of finals week right now, so that means no time to work out (yeah, it's an excuse, I know) and lots of stress. Which means snacking.

The cafeteria had roasted vegetables today, which were delicious. I'm always so excited when I find a new vegetarian dish at the dining halls. I had a plate full of veggies, which were yummy and delicious and filling. But then I had a pice of cake with ice cream. And later two chocolate chip muffins and a banana. And then, after dinner, another banana plus an extra large cranberry muffin. So my Fitday count is not too happy. :( Oh well.

I'm just looking forward to being done with the exams, so I can get back to my usual exercise/eating routine. Also, I'm looking forward to going home where I can cook my own food or eat my mom's food or go out and have food that isn't dining hall food. 2 more days!

So the past week has been pretty bad, weight-loss wise. Finished my finals, and ate through them without exercising. But I've gotten A's in the two classes that have reported grades so far, so I'll take that.

Then I got home and for the past few days, I have just been eating and eating and eating. I've gone out to restaurants that I've missed and pigged out at home and baked cookies and cakes that mostly went into my tummy. And no exercise.

I feel like I'm going to explode. :(

Don't sweat about it. A couple of days of pigging out won't turn you into a 300 pounds monster. :D

In fact, pigging out once in a while keeps me sane!

Hey I like your name and love your siggy - as for pigging out and resturants and baked cookies and such it happens but it makes oyu feel sicka nd gross doesnt it - for me anyway I remeber how I feel when I have the urge to eat like that lol ... with exceptions to pigign out - hahaha - you seem to have it together and be on track that is great and congrats in creating your own space it is an excellent way to reicieve support

Oh I also wanted to add I love the pic...

a slip up every now and then isn't going to hurt you much.

as the all knowing m2m told me, remember the 80/20 rule. as long as you eat healthy 80% of the time, you should be just fine!

:)

i don't think i ever said hello to you when you first joined, so... hello! :D

Yay replies! (Diary entry below)

daiseeangel--i know the rule, but knowing is so different than doing!

OK. So the damage for Spring Break = 155 lbs (give or take a bit). I was at around 152 before finals and Spring Break, so that's a gain of around three pounds in around three weeks. Lovely.

However, I will get back to school on the 1st, and I will get my butt back to the gym and away from the refrigerator. I promise!

For now, I'm going to enjoy the last few days of break, but not by overeating. I've stopped the random bingeing, and I'm indulging, but not too much. So I think I think I'll maintain for a bit until I get back to uni. And then it's back to losing!

P.S. I got some new swimsuits and I'm excited to SWIM for exercise!

I tell ya, Exotic Wind and Rashmi are making it very easy to find my new team mates!!

Happy April 1st Fellow Spring Flinger :)

Hey there my fellow spring flinger. Here's wishing you much luck with this challenge.

I tell ya - these Spring Flingers are a welcoming bunch aren't we :D

Here's to a good challenge!

You have the right attitude enjoy the rest of break and then start fresh - was the 3 lbs worth every bit of it - LOL ...

Wow, thank you everyone who commented! I'm so excited to be on a team with you guys!

I just got back to school, so things have been a little hectic. But now I'm on top of things again and back to trying to lose weight! So expect to see me checking in much, much more often!

So here's what I've been doing since I've been back to school:
a) Skipping breakfast and eating big dinners
b) Not exercising
c) Eating late-night snacks
d) Did I mention the not exercising?

My schedule is much busier this quarter than it was last quarter, but there is definitely time to exercise. I just keep putting it off. Today, I even put on my gym clothes, but was waylaid by a friend inviting me to dinner. Food-wise, I'm slowly getting back to pre-finals/Spring Break food fest daily calorie rates and starting to cut down on the unhealthy snacking and overeating.

This is what I ate today:
Lunch: Tuna salad sandwich on whole grain bread (with lettuce, cheese and tomato). 4 oz of potato salad.
Dinner: half a chimichanga, half a baked potato (with butter, sour cream, cheese, chives), a PB&J sandwich on whole grain, a square of cake, and about half a cup of nonfat frozen yogurt.
Snacks: Giant strawberry Pocky, fun-size Dots, fun-size Laffy Taffy, Nature Valley Granola Bar, applesauce.

I think I need to start using Fitday again. Lately I've been geting lazy with it, and I didn't realize exactly how much I ate until I typed it all out here. I'm sure it'd be even worse on Fitday, where I can see the calorie count as well. Plus, it gives me an incentive to exercise. I know it's lame, but I'm always a little excited when I input exercise times for Fitday. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

OK. So goals for now:
a. Cut down the snacking.
b. EXERCISE!
c. Get back on Fitday

Updating my blog and playing around on this forum also helps keep me accountable, so I'll keep doing that as well. I don't want to bring down the rest of the Spring Flingers! :)
