Hey Oaks, still busy? I hope you have some wonderful days ahead of you to recharge your batteries for *drumroll* January!

Hello Kaplooie! Hope your holiday was great!

Hi LaMa! I wish I could say I was busy... Just shamefully lurking as I recover from the holidays, I guess. Had to go to the doctor today and the nurse actually asked me to weigh myself as she got called away briefly. I should have lied, but I didn't think that would help anybody. No one should have to be weighed right after Christmas! 167 by the doctors scale, 164.2 at home this morning. Bah humbug.

Tomorrow is the very last last day of my forty day run streak! I'm doing a 10k race, which I did last year as well. I'm hoping to feel strong and fast. For a split second I toyed with the idea of continuing the streak a little longer, but then we had our first "snow" of the season. And by snow I mean ice storm. And then all the memories of last year's winter came flooding back. Yeah, I'm ok with running 3 or 4 times a week!

Oh, I'm also getting my very first massage on Saturday! I've had a bit of shoulder pain the past couple of months, and I never stretch like I should after running, so I thought a massage would be nice. I'm anticipating becoming extremely anxious and weird when the time comes, because I've been asked if I was ok during manicures due to how visibly uncomfortable I was... This is not going to be better, haha. But I'm sure I'll appreciate it after the fact.

Well done Oaks on completing your 40 day streak successfully. I hated my 1st massage & was so self-conscious & uncomfortable. Now I know how good I feel afterwards & I don't care. Our naked(or semi-naked) bodies are nothing to be ashamed of & most massage therapists keep you covered. It doesn't matter. Take your mind to another place. Happy New Year my friend. Hope your Winter is not too ferocious! Ice storm?

Thanks for the encouragement Cate! I'm assuming I'll have a similar experience to yours. I talked with a friend today and she said to speak up if I'm uncomfortable and be clear on what I want worked on.

I love the snow more than most people I know, but freezing rain and sleet is tough. We don't deal with that too often, thankfully. Last year we got 110 inches of snow over the season... I can't imagine we'll have another year like that.

Great work girl! I love massages, shame my skin doesn´t really want any kind of oil anymore :( Communication is definitely key, a good massage therapist is still not quite a mind reader.

Thanks RB! Running keeps me sane and is also a way to socialize with my friends, so it's one thing I've been consistent with as of late.

Thanks LaMa! I'm looking forward to my first full rest day and I'm just about an hour away from that massage. I'm going to remember your sentence about mind readers, haha. Actually, I could replace the word 'massage therapist' with boyfriend/boss/landlord/etc.... Remembering that could actually really improve life!

Great job on the run streak! Hope the massage helps your shoulder.

Thanks, Cory and Cate, the massage went great! Not nearly as awkward as I was expecting. So far so good on the shoulder, I'm able to move it a lot easier today than I have been recently.

That's good. The next one will be even better. I always need to take it easy for a few days after a really good deep massage.

Cate, I was absolutely exhausted yesterday... A few hours after the massage I went for a leisurely 3 mile walk in the cold temps, followed by grocery shopping, and I felt absolutely knocked out afterwards. Sounds like maybe the massage had something to do with that?? I slept pretty soundly, though!

Alright, it's the first Monday of 2016. I did a little food prep yesterday:

-Homemade breakfast sandwiches (for the freezer)
-One sliced bell pepper
-Two chopped kiwis
-Two cups of cottage cheese with pineapple
-Overnight oats in a nearly empty peanut butter jar*

Dinners this past weekend included pasta with red sauce and sausage, mushroom risotto with grilled shrimp, and chicken sandwiches with leftover risotto. Homemade pasta is my biggest kitchen contribution, and I now judge restaurants if their pasta isn't fresh. I ate an extra large amount of pasta on Friday, but that's par for the course after a race (that was my 10k day).

Got into the booze a little on Friday and Saturday but nothing extreme, and I'm taking a little break now. The plan is three dry weeks; we're hosting a dinner party that I'd like to enjoy a little wine at, so that's my end point.

*I dropped the peanut butter jar this morning and promptly lost half of the oats. Bummer.

RB, I didn't think the expense of a massage was worth it before but I think I've changed my mind :)

LaMa, I'm thinking of making it a reward after big races. And next time I'll remember Cate's advice to take it easy afterwards.
