Sounds good to me, although I seem to belong to the people who can´t snack without getting cravy. Interesting how people differ!

Whoa, active forum today! I love it.

Hi, allicat! Thanks for stopping by! Yesterday was a pretty good food day, but I'll try and post some more food logs so you get the full picture of what goes in the life of Oaks :)

LaMa, processed snacks are so bad at sparking cravings for me! I absolutely love Cheez-Its but if I let myself have them (they keep 2 oz bags in the kitchen at work) then I find myself rummaging through the snack drawer thirty minutes later.

K&D, that was a fast run for me, actually probably my fastest so far. In keeping with the theme of giving you the full picture I'll say that my 8.5 mile run this past weekend was just under a 12 minute pace. Every workout has its purpose.

Thanks, Stacy! After a week of bad mood swings I'm feeling better and staying strong with my food choices. Hopefully this trend continues for a bit!

Cate, I'm trying to keep things a little more balanced these days, thanks for noticing :)

Wow, you're doing some good runs!
I have never had a adult coloring book, but because of my 5 young nieces and nephews I do a lot of kid coloring books!

Food and exercise log for today (Wednesday). I'm never good about keeping these up but I'll try to stick with it for a few days.

B: Grape nuts with my homemade oat milk + a banana
L: Salad with chicken, dressed with balsamic and oil
S: Greek yogurt with strawberries, oats, and hemp hearts
S: Almonds (100 cals)
D: Porkchop with polenta
S: A bit of smoothie and oatmeal that I munched on while prepping for tomorrow's meal plan
E: Short yoga video (<30 mins). Arms and abs, ouch.
S: Cantaloupe

Mystic, I missed your post yesterday! I've really been focusing on my runs lately and it's paying off. I did a 10K on New Year's Day and my next race won't be for a few more months (because, ya know, winter) but I'm pretty excited to make some progress with speed in the meantime.

Another day of great meals and exercise and agree totally on the need to mix up the running pace for specific training purposes.

Thanks K&D! Let's hope I can carry this positive energy through the weekend. Friday afternoons are where I start to struggle.

You folks may remember that I've been having trouble falling asleep/ staying asleep for months now. I'm happy to report I've had trouble maybe twice in the past week and a half. I took a break from caffeine while REALLY focusing on getting into bed when I felt tired instead of falling asleep on the couch. I think I just wasn't trying hard enough before. But I'm good now!

Congrats on the caffeine break. Has made a huge difference for my sleep as well after suffering through the first week.

You are inspiring me!

Great Job! :grouphug:

Ahh caffeine kills my sleep too. After my coffee in the morning I try to only have herbal tea the rest of the day, I find I feel calmer too.

Your food sounds awesome!!! How do you cook your polenta? I bought it once and it sat in my pantry till the use by date came and went lol. Is it nice?

Thursday's foods and whatnot, with times to add a little more data to the mix.

S: Dried banana (pre-run) [5:30a]
E: 2.5 mile run [6a]
B: Steel cut oats with maple syrup and brown sugar [7a]
S: Grapes [10a]
L: Salad with chourizo and a string cheese [12:30p]
S: Smoothie [3:45p]
D: Chinese takeout = Steamed shrimp & scallops with mixed veggies + a spring roll + fortune cookie + 2 pieces of general tso chicken [7:30p]
S: Handful each of skittles and chocolate chips (sneaky) [8:15p]

That steamed dish was the most boring thing I've ever eaten, but it was exactly what I ordered so I can't complain. I'll find a slightly more enticing compromise the next time we opt for Chinese food.

K&D, I wasn't too bad with the caffeine so thankfully I didn't have to struggle too much. I had a coffee yesterday morning and it just tasted better after not having it for a few days.

Thanks, LaMa! My body was telling me what it needed, I just had to pay attention.

Stacy, I'm glad I can be inspirational :) We're heading into the weekend, I'll try and keep it up for you!!

Lucy, I'm a big fan of herbal teas, too! Tazo passion is a fave of mine... Hibiscus, orange peel, rose hips and passion fruit. Yum! We made the polenta in the rice cooker with milk, water, and butter (I think, G's the chef in the family!) Honestly I didn't care for it too much, but I've never had it before so I was struggling with the texture. We had some sort of shallot and wine sauce to go with the porkchop that definitely made it more palatable, so I think it would have been better if we'd had more of that to go around. The next time we make it I'll request something that will make it seem less like unbaked cornbread to me, haha.

Adding a touch of parmezan really helps. I love polenta when cut into strips after cooling and then (dry-)fried until it goes golden.

LaMa, we have some polenta leftover so hopefully we get around to frying it up before it gets lost in the back of the fridge somewhere. And G did say he wished we would have added parmesan. Noted for next time!

When I look at this forum on the Tapatalk app my thread appears with a picture of some weird spammy advertisement that must have been posted and then deleted. In an attempt to change that I'm posting pictures of my piggies...
I want that to be what pops up instead. Let's see if it works. View attachment 23421

Update: It didn't work but I'll still leave you with my piggies.
