LJ, are you prepping the broccoli and cauliflower for cooking later? We need to get in the habit of having veggie sides. In the summer I do eat lots of corn and zucchini. In the winter I eat lots of lasagna...

Produce yesterday consisted of: banana, mixed fruit, a little lettuce with lunch, and celery + mushrooms in stir fry.

So far today I've had a banana and a cup of fruit I bought with lunch. Watermelon and pineapple and strawberries were yummy. Grapes and melons.... Not so much.

Speaking of lasagna, I did get some today, the place I went offers one size and that is 'giant'. Half of it is in the fridge for tomorrow.

I have only ever seen lasagna portions in size 'more fucking lasagna than one person needs.' Kudos to you for saving half!

I prep them for snacking. At least, in theory. For cooking, I usually either zap up some frozen vegetables or make a salad. I did cut up some fresh veggies, cooked them up with olive oil and white wine, and tossed it into pasta for dinner last night - a nice summery pasta for the coldest night of the season yet.

Good job on controlling yourself with lasagna. Whenever I get the oversize serving of anything, I don't take home leftovers - CT loves its giant grinders, and a small is usually enough to feed 3-4 reasonably hungry adults.

I never eat cauliflower or broccoli raw, so that's interesting to me. I've definitely tried uncooked broccoli but I don't remember particularly enjoying it. Maybe I should give it another shot.

Couldn't drag my bum out of bed early on this cold cold morning. I did pack my gym bag, and had already warned the BF I'd probably be late getting home from work. Too bad I forgot the bag as I was rushing out the door (late, as usual). Guess it'll be yoga tonight, maybe some pushups, and no excuses tomorrow.

There has been a resurgence of evening snacks in my life lately. Salty cravings, mostly, so I'm going to need to be careful. Monday I'd eaten a very small dinner, but yesterday I had a very satisfying taco salad so I had no excuse for potato chips. Next evening snack needs to be an apple!

Unfortunately, broccoli does well with a dip, so maybe find a yogurt-based dip recipe or sprinkle some salt on it? I usually just chew on it without really paying attention to it. Then I get full after xx pieces.

Well, after saying I needed to focus on fruits and veggies, I stopped by the store this morning for some pre-cut produce because our only veggies at home are earmarked for homemade broth. I'm planning on getting a salad for lunch, but I already know tomorrow's lunch will be low on veggies. My office provides lunch on Fridays, and tomorrow is PF Chang's... Chinese buffet, basically. Dangerous.

The veggie cup I got has broccoli, cauliflower and carrots (that's your fault, LJ!) It comes with a light ranch dip which I will use sparingly.

This may have been the most boring post I have ever written. So here, have a picture of my pig covered in hay.

LaMa, this little guy (Kappa) is definitely the only creature in my house who squeals at the though of lettuce!

Hummus makes a great raw veggie dip and is waaaay better for you than ranch dressing light or otherwise. I also have a roasted red pepper cashew dip that goes great with raw veggies if you are interested.

Forgot to mention that I have gotten to the gym a couple of times this week. Monday was run/walk intervals with speed, today was run/walk intervals with hills. For today, on the treadmill, I decided that when a good song came on I would continuously up the incline in small increments until the song was over. Three times total. Hills are TOUGH. In the best possible way.

Q, I'm definitely willing to try veggies and hummus but I'll have to pass on the recipe you offered.... I have a weird thing with nuts and fruit occupying space outside of dessert time. Pad thai? Pear salad? Strawberries and spinach? Turkey sandwich with cranberry? Oh the humanity!

Veggies and hummus - that's brilliant. I was also thinking plain greek yogurt with some seasoning.

Thanks to the interwebs and Food and Wine Magazine:
Garlic-Chive Greek Yogurt Dip
1 cup Greek yogurt
2 medium cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped chives

In a bowl mix together all ingredients until well combined. Taste for seasoning and adjust if necessary. Chill before serving.

Q, I understand. All I can do is try to be a better person. Take it one day at a time. It may be a slow process but eventually I will get there. A raisin here. Maybe a walnut there. Someday, maybe, I'll earn that respect.

Alright, LJ, that recipe looks right up my alley! And due to my love of smoothies and overnight oats, I always have plain Greek yogurt around. I've only recently started using it instead of sour cream, but it definitely works. I dumped some on top of my taco salad on Tuesday and it was delicious.

Dooooo it, Jen! It's a pretty good swap. Although that reminds me, I watched my nephew lick sour cream from its little container at a restaurant in August... Apparently my brother exclusively serves Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, and I guess my little nephew can clearly taste the difference!

That's all I ask Oaks. Now you know what a satsuma is so you've made progress. Happy Friday Oaks!

I seem to only want to write here when I've got something good to say. Like now, because I just ran five miles, whoop whoop. But that's not really fair now is it?

Let's recap the last couple of days. I did go out for drinks both Thursday and Friday. Thursday was with the usual work crew and I tried hard and ended up having only TWO drinks. We did share some nachos amongst the four of us....that's going to be a hard habit to break. Friday saw a few more drinks, but I'm ok with it. I think I had four delicious Belgian beers, and we shared some apps amongst five of us. Duck confit poutine was *amazing*. This was a new place for me, with ex coworkers who I only see a couple of times a year, which is why I'm ok with the extra food and beverages. I've gotta focus on keeping things healthy with the crew I see every day and go out with almost weekly.

I was going to recap a little more, but man, do I need a shower! Who knew I could be overdressed in short sleeves and capris for a November run.

haha I only seem to write when I'm doing well too. Maybe it's something to do with the "shame" when we are being less than perfect ;p

Still, good on you for owning your slip ups. Although I hesitate to call them slip ups. What you are describing are genuine social events that happen frequently. You cannot abstain your whole life. It only going to make you want to do it more (you know, DO NOT PRESS THE RED BUTTON thing). It's good that you are reflective about it though and are looking at ways to maybe cut it back or improve slightly when you are out socialising :)
