The Girl With 40 Lbs to Lose

If you didn't get my title reference, it is a nod to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. One of my favorite books (series) of all time. I <3 Lisbeth Salander.

Sooo...back to topic. My name is Jennifer, I turned 28 a couple of months ago (November) and live in Arizona. Basically, I have a little under 40 lbs to lose. I WILL get to goal, or close to it, before it gets super hot (mid-June). I refuse to spend another 115 degree summer in jeans or unflattering exercise shorts. My weight hovers between 156-159 and my goal weight is 120. My GW is subject to change as I get closer to goal as I have never been below 145 lbs as an adult (and that was for a millisecond) so I honestly don't know what I would look like any lower than that. I am 5'6" tall and my all-time high weight was probably when I was 16-18 years old and around 190-195 lbs. I did not have a scale at the time but judging from pictures that sounds about right. Not long after I lost down to about 160 just from getting a job after college and walking everywhere since I had no car. Luckily, I lived in Boston at the time, which has a very good public transport system. Also, no longer being beholden to the college cafeteria worked wonders for my waistline.

I have suffered from depression (undiagnosed/untreated) and childhood abuse/trauma issues as well as bingeing but in general I don't like to make excuses for myself. I just want this weight off for good! I found this site a few years ago and promptly forgot about it except to occasionally pop in to the Before/After Pic thread for motivation, but I am going to start utilizing it now in order to garner some support and accountability so as to get to goal and stay there.

My eating plan is to average 1500 cals/day with lots of lean protein, veggies, whole grains and fruits. I eat this way for the most part all the time but I need to start controlling my portions better. My exercise program consists entirely of cardio at the moment. I have a gorgeous 2 year old English Labrador with hip dysplasia who requires exercise every day to maintain the muscle around his hip joints as well as just because he likes it (which is very fortunate!). He is my personal trainer and thus wakes me up at 6 AM to walk every day (5 AM in the summer). I do an average of about 4 miles walk/running daily with him. I am an occasional runner but I want to make it more regular (3-5 miles 3x/week). One of my big non-weight loss goals is to run a half-marathon before my 29th birthday on November 1, 2011.

I will weigh on Monday (my usual weigh-in day) and report back with my exact weight and measurements. If I'm feeling brave, I may even post "before" pics. I will begin to post my food and exercise logs on here tomorrow. For dinner tonight, I have some chicken breasts defrosting in the fridge that I will cook up to go in my salad and use the leftovers for lunches/dinners this week. I will allow myself an apple for a snack as well. It is now 3:40 PM and I have already had breakfast, lunch and 2 small snacks (1 orange and 1 130 cal bag of TJ's natural popcorn). I did a 3 mile walk with the puppy this morning.

I look forward to "meeting" other people in the same weight loss boat and giving and receiving encouragement as well as a swift kick in the butt when needed! :D
