The final countdown!

Hey Nostalgic! I just saw you live in Paris, but are now in Bretagne! I lived in the Burgundy region for 4 years back in the late 90's..ran the Paris marathon in 1999...then Proceeded to put on The weight! Bretagne is a beautiful part of France...so much different than the other regions!
I didn't count calories at first at all...and it worked for me for a long time...then I needed to switch it up some and I wanted to know how much I was consuming daily...so i did an experiment to count caloroes for a month awile back..and i've stuck to it. now I have a good idea and I also know what level it will take to maintain. You certainly don't have to count calories to be successful at a lifestyle change, but sometimes it is useful to keep us accountable!
Have a great time in Bretagne et bonnes vacances!
Sarah

Guideon. Thx :)

Athala,
Your English is perfect, I didn't even notice it wasn't your mother tongue! I assume its not since you say it's bad?
We are just on holidays for a month out in the middle of no where at the in-Laws summer home.its nice but I get bored here.

Sarah,
Bretagne is nice, It would be better if we were in a bigger city though. We are in the country in a tiny minute village. The closest big city is quimper which is 30 mins away by car. I don't know the burgandy area,
Bretagne definitely has its own culture I think, if it wasn't for the language I wouldn't think we were in France.
Hubby does those Paris marathons every year. He loves them.

On calorie counting.......

I tried counting calories once and just got frustrated with weighing and noting it all down. I'm very focused and have graphs etc etc but for some reason the task of counting calories frustrates me. I found it hard to do and keep up with and felt like it was never accurate enough.

Step log

STEPS
01/02 = 3673
02/02 = 4846
03/02 = 3861
04/02 = ? Over 7000
05/02 = ? Over 7000
06/02 = 8037
07/02 = 4038
08/02 = 9708

Hi Nostalgic, I'll come over to Bretagne & you can come here for the next few weeks. It's raining & it's cold & I have lots of housework to keep you busy! Seriously! OK- so it's a little far to do a swap, but please tell me a little more about Bretagne. I am so nostalgic (pun intended) for France & Italy & must go back again to see more of the countryside. Cities are exciting, but it is in the country where you really get a sense of how different cultures are. Are there bicycles there that you can use? I want to be back in France!!!! xoxo Cate

No, english is my second tongue, however, I can understand most english without problems. Writing complicates things a bit, so I'm always double-checking with a translator.

I might have been a little unconsidered with the calorie counting subject. I forgot that your diet was provided by a nutritionist. I'm sorry for pushing the subject. :blush5:

Cate,
Swap, lol I would if you took out the housework,
Bretagne is nice, the people are friendly compared to Paris. The crepes which I have avoided so far are delicious. They make them better here in Bretagne.
We are in a tiny village close to the sea but I'm not a beach fan in general and especially so recently after giving birth. I prefer rivers and lakes. I'm a hard woman to please :-/
The air is fresh, I like that you can buy meat, fruits and cider locally from the farms. Much nicer than supermarket stuff and cheaper.
I love that most of the supermarkets which are in the city have a English food section :D

Athala, what is your language?
No need for apologies, this time I don't think I need to visit her for motivation but keeping her eating plan should work.

Weighed in at 84.7 this morning, I'm expecting it to get slower going however I would like to lose 1 kg a week until I get to at least the 60s but we will see.
I've been walking to and from the beach every day which is about 1 hour to 1.5 hours in total depending on speed plus another smaller walk in the mornings or evening.
Owen is doing well also and is eating less often at night. He wakes about 2:20 then at 7 am so we get more sleep

Congratulations on getting out of the obese category!!! That is a big milestone! The creeps of Bretagne...oh...to die for! Not bad if you stay away from the sweet ones!
On calorie counting, I've found that myfitnesspal.com is a convenient mobile app that has allowed me to be able to track calories...otherwise I wouldn't bother!
Congrats again on the BMI! That's a big deal!!!

:hurray:

Sarah

Congrats Nostalgic(Suzanne?) on being no longer officially obese! You are kicking derriere my friend! I agree with Sarah- the only way I would ever bother counting calories is with My fitness Pal. It is easy peasy! Well done! xo Cate. PS Are you sure you don't want to swap? Cold & rainy here!

Yay me!

Thanks all,
I feel good getting out of that category.
My fitness pal, you need to buy their pedometre right?

Yep, my name is Suzanne but people call me Suz :)

Crepes.... Yep, they all had crepes for dinner the other night and I was good and said no and stuck with my salad, yogurt and fruit :D
I will have one before we leave though as a treat. Near the end of the trip so that the in laws will be more confident looking after Owen for a few hours. Will be nice to go eat them at a nice restaurant with hubby, oh and you can't have crepes without a nice bottle of local Bretagne cider..... Yummy!

I did have 3 biscuits yesterday and a glass of wine. This is ok because I'm doing well but I didn't like how it happened. The glass of wine was planned but the biscuits was a run to the cupboard binge.... Not how I want to enjoy my treats.
Next treat will be planned so I can sit down and really enjoy it with a coffee not binge and have it over with in a few minutes.

The nutritionist said for every meal not just treats that I should sit down eat slowly and enjoy what I'm eating.

Thxsies :D

Steps 5599 today, could have been better...
I need to drink more water also. It's harder to do here as the house is big, in our flat we have water bottles sitting around so its easy to find and drink

I've been wanting to check your diary since you first stopped by mine. Finally having a quiet day at home so I was able to do so. Congrats on the new baby. I love the name Owen, great choice! ;) I'm sure he's just oh so precious! I saw you commenting on his little baby toes. I have to say that I love baby legs. I hope that doesn't sound creepy, but I just think they're so cute when they're chubby. Just the cutest thing! LOL :)

It sounds like you're well on your way to getting to your goals which is very nice to see. Keep up the good work. :)

Hi Nostalgic, You don't need a pedometer of any sort to use MFP. I don't have one. MFP is free. You just input whatever exercise you do & the food you eat. I don't get any spam from it as I have a separate disposable email address that I used to join up & have not received one email. The more you input the easier it becomes and you also have the option of "Quick adding" calories, rather than trying to input absolutely everything in a recipe. Give it a go when you have some spare time & see what you think xoxo Cate

Congrats, yes my fitness pal is a great way to keep track of caloric intake but you need to be careful about what foods you consume.

Good job Suz! Sounds like you are having a nice vacation! Like Cate said, you don't need to buy anything to use their site. My pedometer does "talk" to the app and record into the exercise portion, but you can also do that manually if you want, your choice.
Sarah

Hi Suz, in Bretgane, *sigh* , jealous.....I do that with water bottles too. I have them everywhere! In a big house you just need lots of bottles! Good for you, getting the steps in! A big hi from chilly Tasmania xo Cate
