The Ferret Returns!

Walked a total of over four miles, and had an hour strength training at the gym: squats, deadlifts, narrow handle lat pulls, plus warm ups.

I had half of a lettuce today in some peanut butter sandwiches (wholemeal of course). Lovely - I don't often eat lettuce this time of year. Some of the out-of-season strawberries that I have been buying recently have also been pleasantly sweet. I'm now having a surprisingly large evening meal: steamed turkey breast, kale, garlic, walnut oil, broccoli, parsnip... However, I have to work a night shift at the station later, and its within my calorie allowance.

Thanks for dropping in and the support Mal :)

After my night shift, I fancied taking a walk in the surrounding forest near to the power station, to try and . I really felt cold, and when I returned home and went to bed, I felt even colder - kept waking up with it! Felt like ice. Since losing weight, I do feel the cold more, and when I go out in frosty weather, have to don my wooly hat and gloves!

Despite not sleeping well, I forced myself to take a run. We ran about three miles - a little shorter than norm, but it was dark, and I couldn't run through any of our cross country areas. It was a good run nevertheless, and after stretches and a nice hot bath, I felt on top of the world.

Thanks Beckster - nice to hear from you :) Roast potatoes and roast lamb - my favourite sunday dinner, but so naughty when I'm trying to lose a little more weight.

3 mile dog-walk
45 minute strength training: lat pulls, pull ups, assisted dips, single arm row.

I took a sneak preview at the scales today, I really should know better. Still, it was lower than expected. I really must be careful not to lose too much weight too fast. But I failed to consume all of my calories today.

No exercise other than work and dog-walking in the snow!. Rest Day.

I feel a little low today - but thats probably because I've just come off of nightshifts. I could really fancy going down the pub tonight.

Walked 3 miles with Wolfy.
Strength training at gym 45 minutes: warm ups then dumbbell and bench exercises - shoulder presses, inclined bench presses, flat bench presses, dumbbell flys. I'm glad that I managed to get my three strength training sessions in this week. I'll try to run with Wolfy at the weekend, but it could be difficult, as I'm on 12 hour shifts at work.

Oh dear, not such a good day, eh? Day off from work, and I . We went to a cinema, and I ate a little badly - noodles, a hot dog, oat bar etc... :(

Ah well, one day now and then...

Boing - they bounced low this time! Exercise, none, but I am working 12 hour shifts this weekend, so no time or energy. However, I did walk Wolfy 2.5 miles after my last meal. If I have an evening meal (and with my lifestyle, I find that I inevitably have to), then I do like to take a long walk after - aids digestion etc...

Thanks emilymarie :) The calories thing - ooh thats just Fitday not really matching my lifestyle. I don't believe that I burn no where that much, in fact, I'm going to change the way that I input data into it, starting today.

Wolfy and myself have an unspoken agreement to keep each other on our toes and in fitness - dogs do that to you, I'm not allowed to sit around too long. Its irritating sometimes (after a long hard shift at work), but overall its really good - he's a lifestyle commitment :)

hey toothless ferret.. just want to say i enjoy reading ur diary! keeps me on track and provides me with inspiration and motivation.. haha.. =D

Ferret-

Wolfy is a gorgeous dog! He is beautiful....

I havent taken the time to utilize fitday. Do you think fitday is help loosing and/or maintaining weight?

Hayley - thank you :) thats very nice to hear - (last week)!

heidilw - I'm not sure, I have only been using it for two weeks. I lost 49 pounds last year without calorie counting - I guess that I'm one of those lucky ones who seems to find weight loss easy at this time of my life. I don't think that calorie counting is the beginning and end of weightloss - I firmly believe that good nutrition, a mixed diet, eating properly (e.g small amounts often, starting with a good breakfast), a mixture of good exercise and rest, and above all, a commitment to lifestyle change - are all ingredients behind successful and lasting weight loss.

However, I do accept that calorie counting works for many people better than any other method, and is based on a lot more sense than any fad diet. Its a quantifiable method. I want to lose a little more body fat, and I thought that a month of calorie counting would help - and to be honest, I wanted to try it. I have to admit that I have learned a few things. I don't eat potatoes very often any more, but I do have them this time of the year when we eat sunday roast as a family. I was shocked at the number of calories in roast potatoes. I was buying some oat bars - again I was shocked by their energy content. So calorie counting does aid weight loss. Where I don't always agree with calorie counting is when it deters people from eating healthy foods such as avocados and nuts.

What do I think about Fitday? Well, its free - thats a good thing. I do find some aspects of the service irritating - it is very tuned towards users in the USA. The biggest problem though for me is in the options for counting calories burnt. It simply just doesn't seem to match my life, and however I enter the data (especially calories burnt at work), it just doesnt seem to reflect true calories burnt. It might work for someone else though.

Still, as I said - its free :)

55 minute strength training workout at gym: squats and deadlifts.

A few 'figures' from my first two weeks at Fitday, and 2 weeks of weight loss campaign:

Average daily calories burnt: 3307
Average daily calories consumed: 2162
Total number of miles walked (dog-walking): 31 miles
Total number of miles ran/jogged (outdoors with dog): 15 miles
Time spent strength training in gym: 251 minutes
weight loss: 5 pounds

As of from today, Wolfy - my canine walking, jogging, and running partner, became my cycling partner too! Nope, he hasn't learned to pedal tandem (he kept falling off ;) ), I ran him today on a springer cycle-dog attachment for two miles. It means that I can exercise him thoroughly without either running with him (which I do - but only twice per week - I need rest!), or letting him off leash (he is becoming too husky and causes too much trouble).

We biked to the town centre, where he met his best doggy friend - another husky named Blue - leashes, bicycle, huskies and owners became tangled in the High Street.

The down side for fitness is that although he burns more calories - I burn less than walking him :( I'll post some photos of us with the springer attachment when I get the chance.

awwwww - and this is why you should have a camera with you at all times :D Now does Wolfy have an entry on ? and he can meet up with his other doggie pals in cyber space :D

lol.. dogster??? who actually spends time thinking up these crazy things! :)
and i agree with your opinion about calories burnt on fitday..i am having the 1000 daily deficit that it says i need to lose 2 pounds per week but im only losing one per week. so i am nt convinced that it calculates it right. but hey mustnt grumble!
