The Biggest Loser...how do they do it

Hi Folks,

So I was watching the tv show the Biggest Loser the other night and they had a guy on there that lost 112 pounds after 10 weeks. Thats about 1.6 ponds a day for 10 weeks straight. Now he started off at about 407 ponds and I understand that he has alot of water to lose but how is it possible to lose that much continually?

Can anyone answer that for me?

Its not even a heath way to do it. Ive never seen the show but its really bad to loose so much so quickly.

Loosing weight is always going to be easyer when your reeehhhhlllllly huge.
 
i LOVE the biggest loser...Haha my family is so crazy..me my mom,sister and b/f have out own "biggest loser" its going on right now..till june..we started in march anyways we all put money in and the biggest loser wins it yeyyy! But we don't have Bob to help us along =(.....idk how they do it but they look great afterwards..id think it has to be healthy cause Bob and that other girl who replaced my Jillian give them diet,exercise plans and fitness equipment....That guy prob ate awfulllll before so just switching from fast food all the time to veggies,lean meat n whole wheat things was a big reason...itd prob b hard to do on ur own
 
When you look at weight loss you have to look at it as % of bodyweight. So, for example if you have a 6 foot 200kg guy that loses one kilo it's far less significant than a 6 foot 100kg guy that loses on kilo.

To answer your question the reason why they can lose ridiculous amounts of weight is due to the fact that most of them are massive to start off with so the weight they lose isn't as impressive when you calculate as a % of BW. Also, you have to realise that they're training ALOT harder than people in their position SHOULD. This is why the biggest loser is a crock of crap and as a person who's into fitness, i can't stand the show! It gives off the complete wrong impression to the previously sedantary person who is losing a steady 2kg/month - which is good...and makes them feel small for not being able to lose that in 3 days.

And another thing - Does it annoy anyone else they way the contestants, trainers and ajay keep referring to it as "the game"...Ugh! The goal is to lose weight here people! I know that its all for show but its just one of the things i dislike about it...And that commando guy is a di<k.

The show also provides a perfect example for young trainers/future trainers (eg. - me) on how NOT to train people.
