The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

No choice Don. My pain is screaming today. The sciatic pain was much less while and directly after running, but today I am hurting. I am having a hard time sitting. I took a pain pill and I will be going straight home to lie flat after work. My stomach is fine. Since it's spasm based, it should go away quickly when it goes. I just need to rest it. I'm drinking lots of water and taking it easy.

I think your plan is a good one for today. Rest is an important part of the process, too. I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but when I was about 30 I blew out my lower back and had a herniated disc removed and my L4-5 vertebrae fused. Prior to the surgery the sciatic pain I suffered was the worst pain I'd ever felt, so I sympathize with your suffering. Back then, I found some relief using salon pas patches. Have you tried them? For me, they're mostly good for muscle/joint pain, but touted as useful for a variety of deep tissue and nerve pain. I get them at Costco and Walmart.

I've used them and a lot of other stuff. The best treatment I've found is physical therapy exercises and horse liniment together. I use the horse liniment to ease the muscle tension and then my wife helps me through the hip alignment exercises which help. I'll do that tonight. I've never had my back examined, but my left side has sustained a lot of injury. I had a grade 3 sprained ankle on the left side. A torn MCL on my left knee and I have since had several sprains on that knee. The sciatic pain just ties them all together. It hurts from my lower back down into my foot currently.

I have not bought from that site. I just thought I show you the liniment. The quart is a lifetime supply of that stuff (unless you have horses).

Hey Quercus - I am sorry you still in a lot of pain! I really hope something that you do to ease it will actually help. Just take it easy! :grouphug:

Ouch! Sorry you're in so much pain. I hope with a little bit of rest that it'll start getting better for you. I agree with the others, listen to your body. Don't be afraid to rest if you're body needs it. Feel better soon!

You and I will be a sight in a few more years. I'm missing my left meniscus and had my right MCL and ACL surgically repaired, in addition to my back. I'm thinking some day we'll really start to regret those injuries.

Still feeling pretty bad. I'm up to 315.4. I don't have much confidence in that number because I was very unsteady on the scale and had to grab the wall before the number settled. I have made poor food choices and haven't been able to exercise since Monday. I'm certain that lifting too heavy too soon and poor form on squats is the cause. Running was just the trigger. I will start with my spin bike when I'm able and ease my way back into running, but I won't be lifting for a long while.

Thank you all for the support.

Sounds like a good time to fall back and regroup, Q. Hold the line for now and come back stronger.
Today I ate pizza, M&Ms, donut holes and fruit (these latter two dragged through a chocolate fondue).
I'm going to pour myself a drink and go slide into the hot tub. We ALL need to take a break occasionally and play to win the game, not just the moment. Hang in there buddy.

Thanks everybody! The back is feeling a lot better. I walked at a slow pace for more than an hour yesterday. Today I am cleaning around the house.

I've let my diet fall to pieces while I've been in pain. I'm trying to get back on track. I realize I will have gained back a big chunk of weight, but I will lose it again. It will be easier once I can get back to regular exercise, but for now I'm striving for improvement in activity and diet.

This journey is fraught with successes and set backs. I have chronic horrific migraines and honestly, the last thing I think about on those day is what I am eating :) Hang in there and I'm glad you are feeling better!
