The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Quercus, did you click on the Ian MacKaye link in my post above? You'll never see Ian in the same light again.

I did V, but I forgot to comment. That was crazy. Real punk rock has never been real lucrative. I wish the audio of Ian wasn't so talked over.

Growing up in a rural setting I never heard of Minor Threat or Fugazi until college. I heard the Dead Kennedys the first day of college in 1993 and they changed my life. Grunge/alternative transitioned to punk for me which felt right and stuck. I listen to a lot of mellow indie music these days, but punk is different. Indie music can make me feel chill or emotional, but punk really makes me feel alive. No matter how I feel I can crank up some hardcore and go apeshit for a while. Cheaper than a shrink. I miss the Seattle punk scene those. So many awesome people and great shows!

2310 calories Sunday which is my new goal according to my app.

I'm heading back from my day in the field with a smoothie for breakfast and juice for lunch and I'm feeling good. I will try for some more exercise this evening.

I've got some catching up to do on your diary, but I've got to say I'm happy the last picture you posted was a flower, so I can get the snake pictures out of my head ::shudder::

I had no idea so many people were doing the juicing thing! I may have to think about hopping on board. The thought of exercising with hardly anything but juice in my system scares me, but it seems to be working for you. Do you think that one 'real' meal make a big difference? I don't think I'd be willing to give up dinner!

Laura it depends on your goal. If you want to do a fast then I don't think skipping the food wouldbe a a big problem for me. I'm using juice to improve my diet and lower my calories.

Your diet lacks sufficient protein on a juice fast which could make for muscle/lean body mass loss. I add nonfat yogurt to my morning smoothie and nonfat organic milk to my juice sometimes along with a good protein source in my one meal. I may try the fast at some point, but I am having success with how I'm using juicing right now and hopefully I'm maintaining my muscle mass to keep my metabolism higher and my body stronger long term.

I weighed 318 again this morning.

BP was 137/89 and HR was 81.

That's unacceptable. I am going to get a HR monitor to make sure I stay in my aerobic range when I cycle. Hopefully that will get my BP and HR down. Obviously continued weight loss is the main way to improve these numbers, but I want to make sure I'm not just spinning my wheels when I exercise (pun intended).

Your numbers may not be ideal but your HR is not bad for somebody your size, I know plenty of "skinny" people with worse numbers, one of the is a trainer at the gym.

some numbers to aim for :)

Thanks Coach! I thought since I've been doing so much cardio that it would be lower. I'm still going to try to improve it. I remember a time when it was around 120, but I was sedentary and 400 pounds then.

Is this trainer not in good shape?

Hey Q! Keep up the strong efforts. I've been checking my HR and BP all week and was surprised at my numbers a bit. But I try to remember that even though I am in better shape now than last month I am still obese and still unhealthy. I'm just planning to track my numbers and see if they trend right for me.

she looks on the surface to be in good shape and she has the appropriate knowledge but the underlying numbers are awful. Too much time instructing others rather than doing.

So I worked in the field today. I had a smoothie for breakfast and juice for lunch and dinner. I rode my stationary bike with my new handy dandy heart rate monitor and here are the results:
1 hr
Avg HR 140
Peak 153
Minimum 97
Calories burned 1699

128-146 is my aerobic range based on a max heart rate of 183.

I've since eaten a couple hard boiled eggs.

My total calories for the day are around 2,000.

Hey Quercus,

I know on my watch I feel like the watch overestimates my calorie burn, I think possibly because of the extra weight. I dunno. There is this site which likely uses a different calculation:

I entered in a rough guess of your stats (38, 318, 60 minutes at 140, male) and it spit out just about 1,000 calories. The equations are also listed there. Apparently it's all based off a study that was done. FWIW.

Good job on the exercise, and I love my heart rate monitor to death so I hope you enjoy yours. Not sure I could have gotten this far without it, even if I'm not using it quite as much as I used to (after a while you begin to be able to tell what various heart rates feel like). I still always use it on any mountain hikes or anything that's going to push me cardiovascularly so that I know when my HR gets into the high 160s so I can rest.

Yeah I knew that seemed high and it was higher than my fitpal app by a lot. I don't adjust my eating based on my calories burned so it isn't of particular importance to me. Fitpal was right around 1000 too. Also, I'm 37 until July.

317.0 this morning. On my way to what will hopefully be the last field day on this project. I've been in the field since early February on this one.
