The "best" exercises

I was reading up on one of those "other" forums - this discussion about what the absolute best exercises were. We all know there are alot of factors that normally should be considered, but for the sake of this argument lets assume theres not.

The top three were pretty much universal: Squat, deadlift, bench press... but the fourth was a toss up, some saying pull ups, others lat pull downs etc.

So what do you think, if you could only do a few exercises for the rest of your workout life, what would they be?

Man that's a good question. I like pullups as an upperbody. and benching/pushups seem to add size. I know it isn't a "workout" but as far as strength climbing rope has worked wonders for me (without knots and without using legs)

right now for me i'd say squats, deadlifts, bench press, shoulder press, chins, dips, sled work and farmers walks. but there are a bunch more that i havent done yet that i want to try in the future. rope climbing is one, overhead squats is another and box squats. i want to get some straps from elite fitness to hang from my power rack and do push-ups, chest flyes and dips with those which will be a different form of stress to the upper body.

waterbury walks is another. step ups with a barbell onto a bench. i could go on and on. but at this point in time, i'd have to go with what i said in my first sentence.

good one

with a kettlebell....
I would say that snatches are the best exercise, they cover the whole body. It's when you hold the bell between your legs with one hand and thrust your hips forward and launch the bell into the air. Once it gets high enough you straighten your arm and military press the bell the rest of the way.

with a barbell...

I would say the deadlift and bent press. Deadlift covers all your leg muscles, abs and all the pulling muscles of the upper body. THe bent press teaches your core stability and works the pushing muscles of the upper body.

without weights...

one arm pushup and one legged squat.
