The amazing shrinking woman (I hope!)

Well done. I'm so pleased for you, you really deserve it. :)
The biggest loser was one of the things that made me realize that I could lose weight and anything else was just excuses. It is drastic but watching really overweight people achieve so much so quickly made me know for sure that it was possible for me to do it. Although I would never do it the same way it was done on the programme. I think more than anything it showed me that I could get fit as you see people that can't walk a mile without puking and a few weeks later they are running. I've always been able to lower my calories but before I just used to do less to compensate for the lower calories.
So I would diet for a few weeks and then give up as I didn't lose weight.

well done loosing the inches :) and it is great that your abdominus separation has come together.

I can't find the studies online at the moment but the fluid retention is the bodies response to healing the damaged muscles after the workout but the fluid retention can be up to 4 lb and can last up to 2 weeks. think of it like any other injury that swells during healing. If your not working hard enough for DOMS your not going to get the fluid retention.

The swelling due to injury explanation makes a lot of sense to me. So is it better or worse to work hard enough for DOMS?

But now I'll be wondering if what I'm seeing is muscle building, or just swelling....?

Whoa I really enjoyed reading your last post Tigpuppy. Very interesting about noticing the cold more and to see that you are losing inches too. Also to see that you experience also days and days and days of waiting for the scale to move back down after a little bump up. It would be glorious to be able to withstand heat a little better in the summer as I work as a gardener.

Man its cold where you are.

I'm glad you are enjoying it! It may be a bit TMI sometimes, but I believe in being blunt and telling it like it is!

With all the cold we have I just hope my body doesn't think it needs to hang onto it's fat layer to stay warm! It seems to me that I remember reading somewhere that swimmers have a hard time getting a low percent of body fat because of being in cold water all the time. Their body seems to need it for insulation against the cold. Don't know if there's any truth to that or not. I'm hoping NOT because I REALLY want it to go! Every last bit!

Interesting that you say this about that show. Now it makes me want to at least watch a few episodes to see what it's really all about for myself. Maybe I'll look online this weekend if I get time to see if I can find some old episodes.

Can't be any worse than watching The History Of Cement with hubby the other night - not exactly exciting and not the wisest way I've ever spent an hour of my time. Oh well....

LOL that sounds like some of the stuff my husband watches. I've got clever though and have English tv installed in one room and I leave him to his football and other boring things in the other room.:)

working hard enough for DOMS is ok so long as the body is given enough time for recovery, muscle is built during rest following training. But not having DOMS does not mean that you didn't have a good workout so long as you challenged yourself.

That would explain how I got fat in the first place though. It is these cold Canadian Winters. If I knew that, I would have moved to Hawaii or the Bahamas years ago-lol.

Personally don't mind the TMI - lets us get to know the 'real' you.

Hey Tigs, just caught up on your diary :)
You're going great! I so want to build some muscle too - I'm starting to feel so out of proportion, I'm all skinny upstairs but still have these giant thunder thighs on the bottom half! Now I'm home I'll be back to my daily weight training with the hand weights :)

Man you've made me nervous Tigs, all this talk about 'the talk'. My daughter is 9 this July and I'm freaking out about it. Bigtime! I'm a big prude, always have been. My Mum finally tried to give me the talk when I was in my 20's. Yeah, thanks Mum! I have no idea what to say or when. I think I might have to find a book to explain it for me! I was 17 when 'it' happened for me so the thought of my daughter possibly getting them at the age of 10 is so overwhelming to me!

Gezz I LOL'd at the thought of you watching the History of Cement with your hubby! Now that's commitment :smilielol5:

Try "I used to be fat" or "The Last 10 Pounds" I was watching those online recently and they are dramatic, a bit unrealistic but inspiring. Its all about diet and exercise. Online is the way to do it too, no advertisements!

I hope my body won't hang onto fat to keep me warm! I've only lost 15 lbs or so and I am SO COLD all the time. I get these horrible chills... the other day I sat in the sauna for 15 minutes before I started to warm up! But that doesn't make sense, I still have 35% fat or so the scale says.

Just finished lifting weights. It was really hard for some reason this time. It's the same upper/lower body workout I've done for the last 2 saturdays, but about 3/4 of the way thru I really had to push myself to finish. It's just like I ran out of steam or something and got really, really tired. I feel great that I finished, but I'm pooped! Feeling kinda shaky and weak now.

Gonna get something to eat and see if that helps.

Well, I got up this morning and fully expected to be sore and be up in weight again because of my heavy lifting day yesterday. I was prepared for that. Instead I got a lovely surprise! I'm back to 135.8 and wasn't really sore at all. Any stiffness I had was quickly gone when I had to help hubby dig the tractor out of a chest high snow drift that he got stuck in this morning. Worked up a good sweat digging!

We finished lunch a while ago and I'm just giving it some time to settle. Everyone is napping so I'm going to go hop on my treadmill for a nice long run. Easy pace, not too tiring.

I wanted to share a picture my daughter took of me in an old pair of size 7 jeans that I fit into now. I have a pair of size 6's that are my goal jeans. I can get them on, but still have some muffin top hanging over on them. Once I can fit into those and have a smooth line from ribs to hip I'll be over the moon! That's my goal!

Edited to add a fat picture at 170 lbs (this isn't me at my heaviest - I couldn't find any), me currently at 136, and me at actual age 16 (around 105 lbs, the dress is a size 0 and I think I still have it somewhere).

OMG! You look amazing! Are you 16 years old or what? That's crazy!!

ITA with Val that a "before" beside it would make it even more fun.

LOL - thanks ladies! Val and Rox your comments made my day. I've had a few people lately make comments about me being my high school size again, but I don't think I'm even close! But it got me to wondering....

So I had to go digging thru my old pictures to see what I really looked like back then. I may have been thin back then, but I had no muscle tone. I look scrawny I think.

I found a couple other pictures of me before I started putting on weight back in the late 90s. I don't remember how much I weighed back when these photos were taken, but I think it was around 145 or so.

I have just answered your question in my diary, but basically you should not have clicking in your joints while lifting, while it may not be an immediate problem it should still be checked out by someone qualified (Doc).

BTW looking good in your pic, great effort !!

Thanks for your encouragement in my diary. That was great.

The photos show how dramatic a change you have made in your figure.

You encourage me.

I'm so glad that I can be an inspiration to people, because a LOT of people on this forum have sure inspired me along the way! I feel it's only fair to pass on the favor to someone else.

Funny story hubby told me over lunch today...

Hubby went into the bar on Saturday night to meet up with some friends. While there some guys came in that have been working on a local construction project for over a year who hubby has gotten to know slightly and who I have met once. The conversation turned towards complaining about ex wives and whining about how much child support they are stuck paying. One of the guys asked my husband how much child support he has to pay for 4 kids? Hubby was confused at first and said he doesn't have to pay any child support. The guy said "Well, I thought you said before that you had 4 kids?" Hubby said "Yes I do." So the guy says "Well, didn't you just get remarried?" Hubby said "No.... I'm still married to the first woman I married 19 years ago." The guy said "I must not be thinking of the right woman then because a couple weeks ago when I was in here I saw this cute little red-head come into the bar to drop something off and when I asked the bartender who she was, I was told she was your wife. I'm pretty sure that's not the woman you introduced me to last year as your wife!" Hubby just laughed and said "Yup, that was my wife!" The guy said "No shit? And here I was all set to congradulate you on trading in your wife for a newer, younger model!"

It just made my day to be mistaken for a completely different person! :coolgleamA: And a cute little red-head at that!

That story of your husbands had me ROTFLMAO! Seriously! That's just too hilarious!!

Thanks for sharing it.
And thanks also for posting more pics. It's really fun to see them!
