The Amazing Shrinking Sandymaker Food Diary

A little background, I am a mother of 4 kids, and all of my kids are five and under. So I basiclly have been prego for 7 years. I gained 70 pounds with my first and 20 to 30 with the rest. I am also 411 and I weigh 240. Most of my weight is in the form of a spare tire. I am 29 years old and I have never REALLY tried to lose weight, but I am now. I want to make a firm commentment to myself that I am going to stick too. Any advise that you want to throw my way, I am ready. I worked out today for the first time and I thought I was going to die afterward. I did find out today that I like weight trainning a lot more than cardio. One of my biggest obselces is that I am a dispatcher and I work 4pm to midnight. I sit for eight hours behind a computer and eat. Also the whole "don't eat anything after 6pm" doesn't work for me. I did well today, but it is almost 8pm and I can feel the munchies coming on.

Today I had:

Breakfast Fiberone Bar 150 cal
1 8oz glass of green tea 70 cal

snack carrots 80 cal
2 16oz Propel waters 40 cal

Lunch Smart ones Ravioli 250 cal

Dinner cup of carrots 80 cal
large boneless chicken w/ seasoning 350 cal
8 oz glass of green tea 70 cal

16oz of water 0 cal
Total of 1090

I may have a small snack later, not sure yet. I know my body is going into shock. Today I weighted in at 238, so we will see for tomorrow. I hope everyone has a great day and happy losing!!

1. Hi and welcome, I am Steve. :)

2. It is OK to eat after 6 PM. It is all about total energy balance. If you ate all of your calories at 10 PM for the day, if you were still in a deficit, you would not gain weight. Can't build something out of nothing.

3. Your calories look awfully low for your size.

Hi and Welcome to your Diary :)

Wow - 4 kids under 5, girl, you need a vacation!

Good for you for making the commitment to losing weight. I never dieted, or tried to lose weight, but one day I woke up and said, this is ridiculous, it's time to make it Gone!

I agree with Steve, it doesn't matter when you eat so long as you're within your caloric range - and 1K calories a day is too low.

Today was the first day of my diet, I have no idea what my cal was before, hate to even think it 4000 a day maybe??

This is perfect actually. Perfect b/c had you eaten such a low caloric intake for any appreciable length of time, it could have wreaked havoc on your hormonal and metabolic systems.

Your maintenance caloric intake is probably between 3500 and 3750 cals. This is the point of food intake where you will most likely gain nor lose any weight.

I recommend starting with a 20-25% deduction from this number for your specific case.

One thing besides upping the cals a bit is that you should make sure you drink at least 64oz of water a day. I personally never drink less than 80oz a day. While I've heard (though this has been disputed) that green tea is good for dieters, it's definitely not a replacement for water. I'm not sure what's special about Propel water, but IIRC it's ok to count that towards your daily water intake.

Good luck :D

Thank you all, for the advise. I was off to a good start and woke up yesterday sick as a dog. So I didn't eat anything yesterday and of course didn't get to work out, so today I ate a piece of toast and some crackers and drank a lot. So tomorrow off to the gym and back on track. I hope everyone had a good day.
