The Almighty Steam Room

Someone please tell me the purpose of a steam room? I'm not for or against it, but I did use it in my weight loss. I ran 2 miles mon-fri for a couple of months to lose 80 pounds and then after each run I went into a steam room for ten minutes. I never knew what the room did, but I saw results and was afraid to break my routine. Was I sweating off fat? Toning? Did it keep my heart rate up from the run? Did it help at all?

Another question I have for anyone educated in the mystical steam room..iness, is what effect does it have on weight lifting? I lift now, and drink a ton of protein. If I lift then drink the shake then steam (or lift then steam then drink), then am I doing well? Is the steam room helping me with building mass (or losing fat to look like I have more mass)?

Steam room does nothing except perhaps relax you and clean your pores. As far as mass building or weight loss........zilch. You may sweat, yes. But are you sweating fat, no, you are sweating water. Steam rooms are also a breeding ground for bacteria, mold,mildew and other nastiness if they are not cleaned correctly at least twice daily.
 
I agree with the above post. Steam rooms are just a way to cleanse the system by making you sweat. It also aids in relaxation and it is just plain comfy for some people.

It does nothing significant for fat loss or muscle building.
