The 250 Pound Journey

Just wanted to say that I hope you are having an amazing time in Hollywood!! Well done on the exercising in the gym on hols - just shows how much its become a part of your lifestyle now!! There aren't many things that we seek out to do on holiday in order to continue our daily routine from home, so a real positive step to having an ongoing healthy approach to life that you still want to go and work out! Enjoy the food though, don't feel guilty about every time you eat out...surely this is hollywood - can you not "get" an eggwhite omlete with steamed wheatgrass and "aroma of bacon particles" anywher?!?!? hehehe

Thanks, jjjay! I am having a great time! The Sweetie and I where part of a "live" studio audience tonight (Jimmy Kimble Live). It was my first time being on national tv... kind of a rush. lol It's funny too, when I saw myself on tv the first thing I thought was - 'I look smaller than I thought I would'. lol I guess the 33+ lbs I've lost over the past three months is more noticable than I realized.

Yeah, there are a lot more healthy places to eat here in LA then in many cities I've been in. I guess those uber skinny celebreties love the health food reseraunts. heheh We ate at a vegan cafe for lunch - it was SO GOOD!

And you're right, the way I view exercise and working out has become a way of life for me now - when did that happen?!? lol I can't believe I'm one of those people who works out every day on her vacation! lol

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and advice! I really appreciate it! :)

Back from Vacation

I'm back! Vacation can be devastating to someone trying to lose weight. We ate out twice a day every single day for the past 11 days. So where am I with my weight loss?

Not only did I not gain any weight, but I actually managed to lose a pound! How awesome is that? I'm so happy I could dance!

I owe that to my new found healthy attitude toward food, my new knowledge of what true portions are supposed to look like, and the great 24 hour gym that our awesome hotel had! :willy_nilly: This is it, I passed the test! This is really and truly happening and I can feel with every fiber of my being that I will NEVER go back to eating and living the way I used to!

Wow, Wow and triple Wow
What an incredible accomplishment. I am so proud of you. Amazing to have such a wonderful time and lose weight. I'm looking forward to 'seeing' that weight drop off you now :)

Thank you, Val! :D It feels good knowing someone is proud of me!

Yeah, I look forward to showing the weight loss with some pictures. But right now the difference really can't be seen. Hopefully soon the weight loss will be enough that it will be noticeable in photos.

Now that I'm home and not eating out so much I hope that my weight loss will start going back to 2 lbs or more a week.

Good Job on the weight loss while on holiday!!!!! I know you are never going back!!!!!

Thank you! :) And you're quite right, I will never go back to the way I used to be. Healthy living is just so much fun and it's made my life so much more enjoyable. I thought being healthy would be all about what I can't have and what I can't do, but it's actually quite the opposite. Now that I'm more fit I can do so much more, and I can have whatever I want now, I just have to watch portion sizes and add in a bit more physical activity to compensate. Which is no problem for me since I'm actually really liking exercising! I never dreamed I'd be one of those people who likes to exercise, but I AM! lol It's AWESOME!

Two Pounds Over Night

Oh wow, I must have lost more weight on my vacation then I though. I woke up and weighed myself this morning and found out I weigh 2 lbs less than I did yesterday! I must have been retaining a bit of water and then whoosh! Gone!

That brings my weight loss to 36 lbs! The most I've ever lost in my life! Actually the most I've ever loss before was like 12 lbs. lol So this is just so amazing to me! 36 pounds in a little over 3 months. Not too shabby. :) I would love to lose faster but I know that as it is, considering my size, I will probably have loose skin issues - and I hope that if I go fairly slow then I won't have quite so much loose skin... I don't know if it's going to make any difference at all though.

When one has 250 pounds to lose does the time it take to lose that weight make any difference when it comes to lose skin - or am I just doomed to have loads of loose skin regardless?

Congrats on your success on vacation with weight loss :D

I think it is best to lose weight slower, to give your skin time to adjust and shrink. That being said with losing over 100lbs (a number I have heard from many sources) it is somewhat inevitable that you will have some loose skin. Now, being obese all my life, I don't really know exactly what they mean by loose skin...i mean having tons of skin folds would bug me, but a bit of loose skin wouldn't really...if that makes sense. So yes, I am also worried about the skin issue. I think weight training would help with loose skin, as you are toning as you go.

Good idea with the weight training. I'm going to give that a shot. And yeah, I guess slower would be better, so I'll try for 2 lbs a week. Too bad, I would love to get skinny faster. lol

I can't tell you how impressed I am with you. I am really scared about going on holiday but this gives me hope as I now know it is possible to not put on weight and in your case even to lose weight.

As good as you're doing and as dedicated as you are to being so physically active I have every confidence that you'll do great on your vacation. One thing I recommend - Try your hardest to get a hotel with a really good gym, and it's a bonus if you can get one that stays open really late or is open 24 hours! :D That made all the difference in the world for me as often we didn't get back to the hotel until late and I wouldn't have been able to work out otherwise.

5 lbs in 4 days!

This is crazy! I've lost 4.8 lbs in the past 4 days! I know all of that must have been water weight and I must have lost that weight during vacation. I worked out hard every day in the hotel gym. I just can't believe nearly 5 lbs in 4 days! That's so amazing to me! This keeps happening, I'll not see any real progress for days and days then WHOOSH! Weight drops off like a rock!

On a side note - I want to start running. But I'm not sure if it's safe for a nearly 350 lb woman to be running. That kind of weight on the joints and bones probably isn't safe?

I've been dreaming of being able to run my entire life. I've been fat my entire life, I was a fat baby, a fat child, a fat teenager, and a fat adult, my girth has always slowed me down and I have never been able to really run. I often have dreams of running, feeling the wind on my skin, the strength in my legs, and just know that my body will take me on and on without stopping for many miles.

I want to be a runner! I want it so bad I can taste it. But I need advice on what a safe weight would be to start running. A weight that wouldn't be dangerous to my health, bones, and joints. I want to run now, but know that I'm not physically able to. Any advice would be appreciated! :)

Well done on the 5lbs!
As for running, I guess try it but if it hurts then you may have to wait awhile, or try a light jog? I'm not sure.

6 1/2 lbs in 5 days!

I woke up to another pound and a half gone over night. This weight is just melting off of me. I've lost six and a half pounds over the past 5 days. This is cray-zee!

I guess I should probably start eating more or exercising less. It's probably not healthy to lose weight this fast. It's weird though, I don't really have much desire to eat any more than I am. I don't feel deprived and I'm eating until I'm full.

Wow Stacy, It's just dropping off you. You'll be ready for running in no time :)

Ode to Weight Loss

Absently I felt it,
out of the blue
unexpected.
Beautiful in it's change.
Hard
where before
there was only soft.
Who knew the feeling
of a bone
could be so...
wonderful.

~Stacy

A little poem I wrote this afternoon after discovering that I could feel a bone that I haven't felt since I was in my teens. Nearly 40 lbs gone and I have never felt better! I know it's a drop in the bucked compared to how much I still have to lose, but I'm on the right path and it will lead me straight to my goal!

Hi Stacy, I just caught up with some of your diary. Congratulations on managing to lose weight on holiday & since you got back. WOW! I must say I love your new-found attitude & approach to healthy eating & lifestyle. It augers well for the long-term. I feel like you a little re the running, but with me it's now my age & fear of damaging knees etc that's holding me back. Every now & then when you're out walking just add a little jog here & there. It's a great feeling & shouldn't put too much stress on your body. Love your poem Stacy! I can relate to it as I am rediscovering bones & muscles I had forgotten I had.
Thanks for your input into the motivational sayings thread. Cheers, Cate

WOW Stacy! You are just smokin' right along! You've made AMAZING progress in such a short amount of time!!!

You go girl!!!
