The 250 Pound Journey

I'm a girl on a journey to ONEderland. I've been fat all my life and in the past, despite the way our current society treats fat people, I have liked being a fat girl. I find big girls sexy (I'm bisexual) and have enjoyed my curves and enjoyed my big body. I used to be a plus size model and still have a lot of body confidence. I have always enjoyed excellent health (aside from seasonal allergies). I have not considered losing weight for "health reasons" because I'm an avid believer in HAES (Health At Every Size). I know you can be fat and healthy at the same time, just as you can be thin and unhealthy. It all comes down to activity levels and healthy eating, which doesn't necessarily lead to weight loss. So no, I'm not losing weight to "get healthy".

But I HAVE decided to lose weight. I've been shopping in plus size stores since I was 12 years old and I'm tired of the ugly, frumpy looking clothes that seem to be the only thing available to girls my size. I'm tired of the "granny" looking outfits and the crazy animal prints. People assume that fat people have no sense of style because of the fact that it's next to impossible to find stylish clothes in bigger sizes. Considering the lack of options to people my size, we have to wear whatever it is we can find that actually fits us. Well I'm sick of it.

That's the main reason I'm losing weight. For the first time in my life I want to be able to walk into a normal store and buy cute clothes that fit me. I love fashion, and I'm tired of not having fashion available to me.

So here I go! :auto:

Starting Weight: 385 lbs.
Current Weight: 337.4 lbs.
Goal Weight: 140 lbs. (Though if I'm being totally honest with myself I'd rather it be 115 lbs.)

I feel where you are. While the road does seem long, we all can do it. The goal is worth the trial. We will do what we can to keep you going.

It's good to hear you're not letting other people affect your self worth. I have a feeling you'll do just fine.

Total bonus points for not caring what people think of you. I have your attitude about size; a confident person is beautiful, no matter the weight. But yeah, I totally agree with clothes. A lot of times I shop with my little sister (who is a size 2) and she gets to try on all these lovely styles, and then when we hit my area (the size 14s/16s) style goes out the window for comfortability. What's up with that?

Good luck with your journey!

Your confidence and outlook on life is very refreshing! There is no doubt in my mind that you will get to where you want to be!! :) I'm a fan of clothes that are cute and stylish as well, and I can't wait to be able to walk into a store and get what I really want to wear lol

I just wanted to stop in and say Hi and good luck! And yeah...the granny looking clothes suck! Totally with ya on that one...lol! :)

Thank you all for the wonderful comments of support and encouragement. :D I'm happy that I found a weight loss forum where people actually encourage each other. You guys are awesome! :)

WOot found your diary page, lol. Posted in all your other threads before I made it here. LOVE your profile page btw, its so pretty. I should do something with mine I guess but yea, lol. Thanks for the friend request, added you quick before you could change your mind...mwahahaaha.

And I so agree with you about clothing. Who the hell decides the fabrics for some of this stuff? I'm a big girl, no way ten yards of neon green paisley is going to look good on me! I've seen some god awful prints in large sizes for sure.

I'm so with you on the awful plus size choice of clothes. For the first time in years I can now actually go and buy clothes in the same stores as my daughter. Being able to sometimes buy something in Medium instead of XXL is amazing. Before I would always cut the size label out of my clothes incase somebody saw them which is sort of stupid as they could see how big I was anyway. I have to force myself not to buy clothes at the moment as I still have nearly 20 lbs left and it is a bit poinless to buy too much before I get to goal.

ROFL! I know right? Sometimes I think they make plus sized clothing out of left-over couch fabric. lol

That's awesome! Congratulations! :D I don't remember the last time I was able to buy a medium ..in anything. lol

You're only 20 pounds to goal!? Keep up the good work! It must feel so good to known your goals are in sight! You'll make it - I have faith in you!

Thanks Stacy, I can't remember the last time that I could walk into virtually any shop and find something in my size. It's such an amazing feeling. I feel confident that I will reach goal but at the moment my weight loss seems to have stalled. I'm not stressing about it though as long as it doesn't start going back up I'm not in a hurry.
I now have the added incentive to keep it off as my son is getting married on July 2nd next year and there is no way I am going to be overweight for the wedding.

Maybe a Plateau? There are a lot of ideas on how to break a plateau on this site (and others :) ). I guess sometimes our bodies just need a bit of a routine change to revamp the weight loss. I've luckily not hit a plateau yet, but from what I've read everyone who tires to loose a significant amount of weight does reach a plateau at some point (sometimes more than once).

Good luck, hon! :D I know you can do it!

Just checking in on you. Your making progress. you havent written down any sort of a food log, but if the pounds are peeling off i assume its alright. keep at it you can do it!

Thanks for the encouragement Stacy. The weight will start to come off again when it's ready. I've upped the exercise this week which might help. This morning I did a 5 mile brisk walk and this evening 4 more miles and although I had BBQ for lunch I didn't over do it and tonight just had fruit and a crumpet with the tiniest scraping of butter.

Hmm Well I didn't think anyone would be interested in hearing what I'm eating. lol Basically I try to eat around 1,600 calories a day and have incorporated a lot more fruits and veggies into my diet. I've also been learning how to cook healthier. I made my own vegetable soup the other day that was only about 90 calories a bowl and was supper yummy. I don't eat any red meat and have cut way back on things like pasta, breads, and rice. I eat a lot of mini-meals (about 5 a day), snacking on things like oranges, and stir-fried veggies (instead of oil I use a low-cal cooking spray).

I also have Wii Fit Plus which makes working out a lot of fun (though my boyfriend had do the "weigh in" for me since apparently I'm over the weight limit) lol. :D

Thanks so much for the support! You're such a sweetie!
