Hey there everybody. I'd like to welcome you to my cool diary where I will take an oath to admit all my guilty sins and be proud of what I have accomplished. Please join me along this path towards a better and healthier ME! Please stay with my updates and motivate me whenever possible. If you haven't heard from me, flood me with PM's or anything to get my attention. If their are any young teenagers like me coping with weight, PM so we can maybe buddy up. Anyways for my first start...

Monday, April 25, 2005

Today started out just like any other day. I went to bed at 1AM and got up at 7:40 - hence lack of sleep. When I woke up I immediatly took a shower and had about 1 1/2 whole weat toast with peanut butter and 1 1/2 glasses of Milk. I was full so I continued on in the morning. Good day so far.

Now I work at KFC and for lunch it's a 5 minute walk from school - so I eat there almost everyday getting my usual Classic Combo with pepsi and fries and my sandwich. (THIS NEEDS TO COME TO A STOP) Anyways, when I went in for lunch today, I ordered a Crispy Chicken Ceaser Salad with some Italian dressing and a diet pepsi. Again I have an addiction to FAST FOOD (Convient, taste good and I don't have to make it) I counted up in just one month I spent $60 for myself on fast food. That's a lot of friggin fast food. So if I spend it like that, it's roughly $700/year or more. Anyways after that I did a presentation at school and aced that. Now it's time for some snack (1:42pm now and ate lunch at 11:30am). Could someone tell me the good times to eat, what porportions should have during this time. So for supper, I'm thinking a nice whopper with chesse and... NOOOO! I will look in my cupboard today! I also have to work - again at work, I PICK at the food. I will go eat some fries or go have some popcorn chicken or something and thats bad - plus it's all the free carbonated pop you can get. I drink pop there like crazy.

So if someone can tell me some good ideas on how to solve some of these problems, please reply. Tell me your thoughts. I will be replying before I go to bed to tell you what has happened throughout the rest of my day.

See yah soon my fellow fans! lol

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
Well good for you, you already started, switching to salad and diet pepsi was a good idea,(hopefully the dressing was light)could you try maybe bringing a lunch with you to work/school.that would help. drinking lots of water helps(i drink like 4L a day or more)
eating smaller meals like 6-7x's a day helps and keeps you fuller so you dont eat as much.
you didn't mention exercise....let us know what you do :)

drop the pop

it has a ton of cals and sugar but no nutritional content

Maybe try upping the fiber content of you meals, it will make you feel full longer and also minimize your blood sugar spike which means less storage of fat.

Why thanks for replying (loving this forum already) Anyways I have some BIG NEWS and that is I just got back from Wal-Mart and bought 3 small yougurt tubs and 2 large ones. I recently found out how good yogurt was and how cheap it was. I bought some flavoured water and some crystal light. I also bought apple sauce. When I go to the store, I'm looking at calories on the boxes, however, what exactly em I looking for on the ingedients part?

About bringing the lunch to school or work - that is something that I have to get into. I just don't bring stuff for lunch because I like cold sandwiches, not warm squished ones. However, today when I go to work, I'm bringing a bottle of flovored water and some yogurt. This is a test to see if I TOUCH ANY food or POP which will be difficult.

Exercise - about a year ago I joined the GoodLife Fitness just around the corner. Had a personal trainer and everything - that lasted for about 2 months and then I stopped going. I still go every once and a while, but maybe I will make some weekly goals.

Denny's Weekly Goals - Must last till Monday May 2nd.

1) Limit yourself to a possible of 3 fast food outlits - NO MORE THAN THAT. (Have to start somewhere right with this addiction) However salads don't count!
2) Drink at least 1-2L of water (hardly drink any as of now) everyday.
3) Work out for at least 2/7 days for 30-60 minutes.

I know these are low standards, but just starting I need to get in the groove!

About the smaller meals per day and stuff, doesn't it just feel like im eating way to much if I'm eating a lot more (time wize) What should some of these things include (yougurt, gornalla bar, fruits?)

I forgot - Ruffles All Dressed chips are my favourite. I can eat a whole bag.

I guess telling you this, I can show myself all my bad habits. Wow.

Anyways back to reality - Talk to you guys/girls later.

Pop is hard subject - I must drink at least 2-3L per day on average because I work and thats all I drink - I wonder if I stop drinking pop, how much weight I'll lose in 1 month?

Upper the fiber content - What do I look for to see which food has this?

Thanks for the reply!

For the eating more times a day(about every 3hrs), you just need to make your meals smaller.like have oatmeal w/ some milk for breakfast maybe a fruit.yogurt and a fruit for snack(i do prot shakes)lunch salad w/ chicken sndwich on whole grain bread. snack could be a granola bar and fruits or veggies and dip supper chicken and rice w/ veggies. keep it clean and basic and you cant fail :)
this helps keep your blood sugar level through out the day(good for weight loss)
as for exercise try adding resistance training and some cardio(muscles burn more fat at rest than fat)
try an ice pack to keep your lunches cool and hard containers to put them in
pop was hard to give up for me too but if you gradually switch from pop to water you ll never miss it
whole wheat/whole grain stuff, oatmeal, brown rice, some cereals with out the sugar, fruits and veggies are some that = fibre

p.s dont eat the whole bag of chips(i know they re good)if you must, buy a smaller bag ;)
sorry i went on and on i was on a roll

Based on my calcs, 3 liters of coke classic has about 1070 calories and some 600 grams of sugar.

"Fiber — also known as roughage or bulk — includes all parts of plant foods that your body can't digest or absorb. Fiber is classified into two categories: Those that don't dissolve in water (insoluble fiber) and those that do (soluble fiber).

* Insoluble fiber. This type of fiber moves through your digestive system more quickly than its counterpart. Whole-wheat flour, nuts, vegetables, bran and fruits with edible seeds, such as raspberries, are good sources of insoluble fiber.
* Soluble fiber. This type of fiber dissolves in water to form a gel-like material. It can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels. You can find generous quantities of soluble fiber in oats, legumes, barley, apples, citrus fruits, carrots and psyllium.

The amount of each type of fiber varies in different plant foods. To receive the greatest health benefit, eat a wide variety of high-fiber foods."

oops, sorry Smiley beat me to it

Remember when you're ordering fast food salads that they can be even worse than a burger and fries! If they're loaded with cheese, crutons, bacon, and fried chicken, with a lot of full fat dressing you could be looking at over 1,000 calories, and as a male you should be looking at 1,800-2,000 a day to lose weight! That's half a day's worth of calories for one measly salad. Plus that kind of stuff isn't good for you. When you get salads make sure you have lots of fresh vegetables in different colors-green spinach and romaine lettuce, purple cabbage, red, green, and yellow peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, ect. Use low fat dressing and don't pour it on your salad. Dip your fork in it and THEN use your fork to pick up your vegetables. Get grilled chicken instead of crispy fried chicken.

And as far as the soda thing goes, if you have diet for awhile you'll get used to it and start to like it much more than at first. You also want to make sure you're getting plenty of water.

When you're shopping for food just use common sense: vegetables, fruit, low fat dairy, whole grain and lean meats good. Chips, cookies, candies, thick cuts of marbled meat, full fat dairy and fried foods bad. Aim for 1,800-2,000 calories a day from wholesome sources, not empty ones. Exercise. And you'll be well on your way to a healthier, thinner you!

i have a suggestion as far as cutting back on the soda.... if you are working at a fast food place, they usually have the soda dispensers right? check to see if yours has a "water" spigot... and then instead of filling your cup with pop, fill it with good old h20... =)

Meal times will of course depend on your schedule, but here is typically what I do:
8:30 breakfast (usually cereal or toast) - 200cals
10:30 piece of fruit or granola bar - 150cals
12:30 lunch - 300cals
3:30 snack (yogurt or fruit or popcorn, whatever) - 150cals
6:30 dinner - 300cals
9:00 snack (usually a beverage, or yogurt) - 100cals

as a guy you will want to up the calories of course, but if you try to space them out over the day instead of lumping them all together in one meal your body will handle it much better =)

good luck!!! and I'm glad you are finding this to be helpful!

Wow, I'm sure getting the help I need from this group. Thanks everyone for the great input.

Well as far as the rest of the day went - IT WAS HARD - trust me. I had no fries or pop at work - That's one in itself right there. I just had a bit of skin on a pc of chicken and through the rest away, ate 1 pc popcorn chicken and had another ceaser salad with some chicken strips in it. I also had a yougurt too. That was good.

Basically the next two days I have off from work, so during these 2 days I plan to work out each day and have NO FAST food. I'm sure I can do it. Actually a girl at work said she stopped eating fast food and has lost 9lbs.

I have another question - it seems everytime I get on the scale and when I do eat healthy and stuff, it seems like I drop 2-3lbs per day when I weigh myself in the morning. What the heck is going on there? (Noticed from past diets)

I have another big obstacle - and this is probably one of the reasons i'm fat is that I don't like a lot of vegetables - just recently I have liked lettuce and stuff (1 year ago) - tomatoes and cucumbers and all that other green stuff I don't like. I guess I should create a list of what I like, and have my mom pick the healthy stuff up. Having more greens and vege's/fruits around should force me to eat it instead of those damn cookies or chips.

MY DAILY PLAN (FOR MYSELF)

7:15 breakfast (cereal or toast)
9:45 piece of fruit or granola bar
11:30 lunch
3:30 snack (yogurt or fruit or popcorn, whatever)
6:30 dinner
9:00 snack (usually a beverage, or yogurt)

So far I'm ok - I'm full right now and it's 10:22 - I could sure go for that pepronni in the fridge! See yah tomorrow! :p

Hey there smiley - this will be my second day today... and I definatly will not have fast food. This is hard concept to undertake. Anyways this morning I had 2 whole wheat toast with peanut butter. At snack time, 9:50 I had a gronala bar, now it is lunch so I will be having some yougurt I brought to school. (I NEVER BRING anything to school) so it was weird. I also had 500mL of water this morning

My goals tonight are to go workout for at least 30 minutes (9ish) and do some cardio on the cross-trainer. I weight myself this morning and was at 248Lbs from 250Lbs. Hopefully it will go down.

Anyways smiley, where are you from in Ontario? See yah later.

Welcome!!! Sounds like you're having a good day thus far. Along with the yogurt why don't you try taking some fruit and/or veggies too. I don't think the yogurt is going to be enough to keep you satisfied. Also if you like Tuna that's a great source of protein.
Good luck and I look forward to reading your future post. :D

Looks good so far! :) and i agree you should try and include some more protein it helps keep you full longer(as long as its lean and not deep fried lol)tuna's a great example, chicken breast, salmon, egg whites, cottage cheese. are also good sources of protein. They are good for you and help when your trying to build some muscle, speaking of muscles you should try and incorporate some sort of resistance training to your work outs along with cardio. but over all your off to a great start :D
Oh and i'm form a small town(very small lol) near Cornwall.

I'm located right infront of detroit Michigan... Windsor Ontario Canada - the motor city!

Anyways as of right now - some updates...

I had to eat dinner early, so I just ate 2 pork chops and some rice and some water. I could have kept it down to 1 pork chop, but they weren't all that big. No pop as of 3:53PM and I don't plan on having any. This forum is getting addictive because I keep posting - *hope that's not against the rules* I just like how people always repond and give me some feedback. For the rest of the night, I'll probably have some more yogurt for a snack and go work out later too. THere I should drink plenty of water and come home and sleep! (That way I don't eat) Anyways untill tonight for another update... or tomorrow morning. See yah all!

Hey thanks for taking a look and hopefully you read what a long thread this is going to be. It's a place where I can tell the world what I'm doing good and bad, but don't have to be embarassed because I don't know anybody. However, everyone gives support and suggestions to improve upon yourself. It may be the next best thing since slice bread... well sorta. LOL. Yah Windsor is alright - Not the greatest but still it will improve one day.

Anyways I HOPE you keep reading my daily logs here and put in any input. I'm always checking up on this thread, so reply whenever you want! :p

Hey Smiley :) !!! NO! You inspired me.

BIG MESS UP - I had a medium french villonia (timmy's) and a donut. And I also wasn't going to work out, but I'm like - WHAT the hell can I tell my forum buddies. I would have lied to everyone. However, I went swimming for about 45 minutes and did some laps. Not use to being almost naked in the public, but there wasn't much people and I don't really care anymore.

So I didn't do that bad. (Timmy's considered fast food?) Anyways no POP today! And tomorrow NO POP either - I promise...maybe another day in the pool. Anyways untill tomorrow, I look forward to your comments. Thanks.

(I knew I shouldn't have gone through that damn drive thru!)

Dont worry about the mess up, its actaully good for your body to cheat once in a while and it also makes it quite a bit easier to stay on a diet.

Feeling any different from not drinking all that soda yet?
